Jean Lafitte’s Mississippi home was in my town of Waveland, MS until the hurricane took it down. He was certainly a pirate--human trafficking-of slaves, Of course! I respect these ladies quest to find the ‘truth’ behind his whole faking his death deal. However, my 3x great grandmother was owned by his nephew, Auguste Lafitte. MY quest to find the truth behind my ancestors and even their identity is even more daunting than the mystery of whether he dipped off on an island with his network of friends.😢 Her name was Polomie Lafitte, around 36 at the time. Just as much of the legend that the ladies validated the legend out here is the Lafitte’s had tunnels from the water under his home to the slave dungeons to keep the enslaved from being discovered. I can’t imagine what she went through and what she could have been thinking during her chattel torture. So, as much as the 2 ladies optimistically described their hunt for the real story, like it’s a Scooby Doo mystery 😮😮. I am doing the same with little to no documentation because my relative was nothing but property. Whom was ultimately abused by him, his nephew and and a son of his and and gave birth to his son, grandson or great nephew, named Victor Lafitte. . I did my research on Jean Lafitte, just as they did. But to no avail it’s not as accessible to go on a rode trip to find out and even less exciting.

I just purchased the book after seeing your video on them. I have done quite a bit of the "normal" story study because Jean is a character in my urban paranormal series (no one knows where he died --before your book--and so it was easy to cast him as a vampire. Yes, he's a vampire. I'm a historian and I like to add historical information in my books, carefully researched. When I saw you have some additional information I hadn't found, I had to know more. Just got it in the mail this afternoon. Going to the appendix and the references, I'm very impressed with the amount of research you have done and I'm really looking forward to reading this one. I noticed you did some genealogy sourcing as well, which is amazing. I can't wait to dig into it. And yes, as a fellow author, I will leave a review when I am finished.

My great uncle told me that I'm a direct relative of jean laffite. And when I looked him up and seen a picture, my first thought was that it looks just like my uncle

the thing about all of this is my grandmother had a book handwritten by Jean LeBleu, whom my grandmother is named after, it focused on things like names and accounting for different people that lived all through america like a phone book almost, but like with the signatures signed over and over like a kid trying to forge his mother signature for a sick note to skip school.. another weird thing I remember is that the names seemed to be sold to people and who the people were that took the names. I remember the dates being from the 1700s.. and that's pretty much it only a page really out of everything I saw, seemed like a con man even for me as a child, I wish I could remember if Leffite was mentioned in this journal, considering it was my favorite thing at Christmas time to look at which reminds me there were maps and stuff that were really good and I thought were pirate treasure maps, always trying to find a hidden x on the maps, but there were none just names of lacations.

That demon duality csn kill a legendary personality like that everytime - example Thomas Jefferson manifested that common black American name . The duality comes on where Lafitte help to finance Marc & Engels Manifesto A criminal for some, and hero for others - affected revolution on one hand, and perpetuated slavery and human trafficking on the other
