Great video, this explains why so many young children can generate more racket head than most adults. The youngsters are using their tendons effectively while most adults muscle the ball poorly. All great players begin playing tennis at a very young age, they learn to generate tremendous racket head speed by using their tendons correctly. I want to congratulate you for this outstanding video!

Great video, but tendons and ligaments don't stretch. They are fibrous tissue. It is the muscles that stretch.

Ok! This is a brilliant video! I watched loads and my tennis did get better, but I am still “forcing” my shots. Even if I manage to unit turn, step into the ball etc I still don’t have that “effortless” energy the best players do. This video is a proper light bulb moment for me! Thank you, coach!

Great lesson man how do you do it for double backhand please
@jonathangonitel
@jonathangonitel 3 ай бұрын
That’s a good question, with 2 hand backhand it’s the same concept. But now you are making most of the elastic energy with your left arm. So take the same principle with your forehand and apply it to your left arm in the backhand. P.S. 2 hand backhand IS NOT a left hand forehand you still need to use the right hand in the swing but most of elastic energy comes from left hand in the beginning phase of the shot and later (around the contact point) the right hand starts to take over

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, focus on prestressed the tendons to create elastic energy "Elastic energy is energy stored in an object due to a force that temporarily changes its shape, such as squashing or stretching. Potential energy is energy that is stored in an object or substance. Elastic energy is a form of potential energy - in fact, it's often called elastic potential energy"

Great video. One thing I’m not sure about. Would you say that working on and having insane shoulder mobility including internal and external while being good for injuries would be detrimental to that elastic power as you would have to go deeper and even then since you’re so flexible you wouldn’t be creating as much of that bounce?

Interesting video Jonathan. Thanks for making this. I hope you don’t mind if I share my experience since I saw your video. I’ve been experimenting with the anti motion (not extreme) and I definitely feel the tendon stretch. I’ve never felt this before on my FH, BH or serve. I’ve tried so hard over many years to get a good “ATP” FH, and to tap the dog a la Ric Macci. But honestly, I always felt like I have concrete arm. I couldn’t understand why I never felt lose. What you explain has helped me relax my hand and arm, and I now have consistent racquet head speed (without muscle!). I get it. Additionally, another thing that helped me too, was understanding the inside out swing path. I first saw this explained in OTI see kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a96Gh8mS3pO9m3k.htmlsi=-_yPQwPCqaSzduko I feel so much more confident now when I use your ant-motion concept and contact the ball when swinging through an inside out swing path. Thanks again for sharing. Ignore the haters.

You say, "You have to use your muscles in order to create elastic energy..." Considering the forehand, what muscles do believe create the most elastic energy? Abdominal muscles, primarily? Shoulder + rotator? Arm? I understand they all play a role, but it's not uncommon to see skinny armed players hitting pretty big shots.

I know what you’re trying to say, but your terminology and how you communicate the facts are wrong. For one thing, tendons have very little elasticity. Your demonstration with the elastic band is a complete misrepresentation. The elasticity is in the muscles.
@charlespaniszyn
@charlespaniszyn 2 ай бұрын
Yes, tendons are NOT elastic. It is the passive stretching of the muscle fibers in a quick, dynamic maximal windup/take back of your racquet which is the proper explanation of what is happening. But Johnathon demonstrates this so well, and gets across a great “secret” of racquet speed, that we should forgive him this little error. Everything he actually demonstrates in the video is spot on.
