Useful info. Detergent is the way to go I must agree for a enzyme disolives dirt. But a detergent incapsulates the grim and allows you to rinse it away. Rather than just spread it from one part of your bike to another. RMM British Iron of Connecticut USA

That's why my bike always looks new and gets lots of looks when I'm out riding or sitting staring at it! Now I also live in California, and it's not the UK as far as weather goes, but still, same principals apply! Good job on keeping your motor clean! Ride Safe 🙏🏼

thanks for another useful video Stu stuck on bugs I always removed by soaking them - a wet towel left on them for a few minutes tended to do the trick, obviously being careful, then cleaning as you have suggested, this always worked well on screens too and the crusty bugs would then wash off, there are still good chromers out there ( normally small businesses) and for a modest fee if you have some poor quality chromed parts will do a decent job and re chrome them for you, - you can certainly tell the difference in chrome quality you mentioned about the cleaning being a part of routine maintainance, it is, and as you go around cleaning you are also looking at the condition of your machine, I've lost count of the number of times I've spotted a potential problem when cleaning - only last week I noticed that the nut and bolt holding the baffle in my exhaust was working loose, its much easier to retighten it up than lose your baffle down the A1....!! thanks again, I think I might try some of the products shown here - an old dog like me can always learn new tricks!!!

I use your method of applying awet shop towel to the insects. Leave for about 5 minutes, then peel off. I use the full Fillingham wash. Dry with bike dryer. Coat surfaces with ptfe based water dispersant and protector. Then finish paintwork and chrome with speed polish or mr sheen (which contains beeswax) sprayed onto the cloth and applying. Buff and finish with another clean cloth. Must work as my 40 year old work hack comes up a treat. 👍

I've been doing it wrong all these years, thanks the the in-depth explanation. I have a tendency to buy bikes with as little chrome as possible, with the Matchless being and exception. I have a T120 Black (very little chrome) and a '83 BMW R65LS (not a lick of chrome). When I purchased it, the R65 hadn't been washed in years and, from you teachings, I was concerned about the paint. I washed the R65 no less than 10 times and I was still showing dirt. The tank and front mudguard were OK, I painted everything else, including the wheels. It now looks proper thanks to your videos.

Briliant video, as usual. I have a couple of questions: 1) what is the correct procedure to clean engine parts (e. g. the engine carter)? Same as the exhaust pipes?; 2) how would it change if the bike is a matte color version (e. g. signals or gunmetal grey, holding on to the Classic 350)? Any special recommendation for the matte colored parts (e. g. the fuel tank) and the black painted exhaust/engine parts? Honestly, I found keeping the chrome clean on my T120 a true pain; I was a decent detailer for cars in my early twenties, but paint was easier to work with - scratches and swirls in paint can be corrected if one knows their craft, but even the faintest scratch in chrome is completely, unalterably permanent; one mistake, and it's there forever. My T120 showed dirt far too easily (and far too quickly), and cleaning it carefully enough to avoid any scratching of the chrome was far too time-consuming. I enjoy detailing, but much like the U.K. and Ireland (where I used to live), the west coast of Canada is extremely wet, by the ocean, and humid - rain is a way of life here, and I'm not someone who rides fair-weather only. I ended up trading my T120 in on a brand new 2020 Speed Twin, partially just to lower my stress levels around chrome maintenance - brushed stainless is easy to correct, and is far less likely to scratch compared to brushed aluminium or chrome, and likewise the powder-coated engine casings. Great video, and I admire your patience and skill (which eclipse mine), but I'll never get a chrome motorcycle again.

@danieloconnell4225
@danieloconnell4225 3 жыл бұрын
@@admiralbeez8143 That's a sensible idea, as I see it. I think the chrome T120 is one of the best motorcyles (looks-wise) on the road; it certainly stands out, even in Triumph's lineup... but unless you're a fellow who doesn't mind spending frequent hours cleaning only to have a quick rain shower undo it all, I can't recommend chrome motorcycles (personally). Chrome rides are also good for those who ride only in dry, summer weather... not really how things go in the countries I've lived in!

I just wait for a thunderstorm and then drive my car back and forth under the rain pouring off the eaves 2 stories up. Then I give the car a quick wipe down in the carport and leave it sitting with small water droplets all over it. Since rain water is *distilled water* , those those residual drops *dry without leaving water marks* .

Now I don't have to worry about my chrome for next 7-8 year. PS: every year I have to heat the PPF evenly to make it reliable. One can also opt 3M PPF. Absolutely love the videos on care and maintenance. Also, apologies for being OT (and feel free to delete) but was wondering anyone's opinion on a dilemma I'm facing. I'm looking at two bikes with almost identical price tags: 1) 2014 T100 Bonneville with only 4,000 miles and brilliantly maintained and 2) a 2021 RE Interceptor (Orange Crush, of course). Rode both. Really liked both. Anyone have thoughts on a barely used but seven-year-old T100 vs a new Interceptor? (Again, maybe I'll ask this again on a more appropriate video but was curious if anyone had any opinions.)

15:05 Wish I knew this earlier. Purchased some Autosol chrome polish and all it did was cause more scratches. Not sure how they can even get away with selling products that effectively harm what they're advertised to help.

Love your videos. This one was very useful for me since I just got an Interceptor Chrome Mark 2! What are your thoughts on applying paint protection film or ceramic coating to the tank though? I just came across a video of a guy in Delhi who's planning to take in his chrome interceptor for PPF application. Would love to hear your opinion on it. Thanks!

@@stuartfillingham Hi Stuart, thanks for replying. Would love to understand why you think it's a bad idea. Personally, I've decided against the PPF but just for my own knowledge, not having much experience with these things, I'd like to know why one shouldn't do it. Is ceramic coating a better or worse option? Honestly, I hadn't thought of any of this until someone asked a question on Reddit on how to take care of a chrome bike. Then I saw all these videos of guys in India either wrapping or coating their REs. The new Mark 2 does draw a lot of attention and what with the dusty conditions in India it's an option I'd like to at least find out about. Sorry for the wordy comment and thanks for the hugely informative videos you post! Cheers

Useful and therapeutic advice, I dare say. I'd have a quick question, if I may (probably unnecessary, but better to be safe than sorry): the Motone billet gas cap fits a Euro4 Classic, doesn't it? I mean, it doesn't interfere with the Euro4 thingies in the tank just below it, do it? Thank you so much.

Always down for more cleaning tips (Its how I discovered the channel, a whole month before putting down the deposit for the bike :) I like to plan ahead!). That autobrite wax sounds like a good match for Greece weather. How would you say it compares to muc-off's miracle shine for paintwork? (I've been using it from the start inspired by one of your detailing videos and I am pretty satisfied with it )
