Thank you, l have been struggling with hitting the ball cleanly recently with more fat shots than thin, l will been practicing in future the placing of a coin or similar at the back of the ball in order to move my bottom point ahead of the ball, and putting a fraction more weight on my left side......l enjoy very much your coaching videos and watch them regularly, thanks again.

This is great and so simple. I really appreciated the video about focusing in front of the ball to have a low point in front. But when I practiced it (on synthetic grass), even though I felt I was striking it more consistently, I couldn't tell if I was still catching it fat. I reckon this is a great way to tell, although I might just use 5c coins, not sure I could afford anything higher if I keep catching them fat! 🤣

Had the very same problem and our pro came up with a similar idea. I have tried focusing a bit ahead of the ball rather than looking at the ball itself. Definitely not a 1 handicap golfer though.

I get mad at myself because I always hit a little fat, but I am still the longest hitter I play with. If I could strike cleaner, I would be even longer. I get in my own head feeling I need to swing hard to stay the longest guy. If I hit cleaner, I could back off that aggressive swing.

Ben Hogan borrowed an action developed by a trick shot artist named Harry Frankenburg (stage name Count Yogi) who developed an unconventional swing style very similar ergonomically to chopping a V in a horizontal log with an axe at 45° which when applied to a golf swing maxes out ulnar deviation and LOCKS both wrists at the point in the downswing where the hands reach the back leg the club force is allowed to pull the right wrist straight and both wrists into full unlar deviation (thumbs down). It is the same snapping down wrist action that is seen in fly casting with a rod or accelerating the tip of a leather whip pass the sound barrier so it CRACKS. That maxing out of ulnar deviation locks up the wrists. It occurs in the conventional swing AFTER impact and is what allows the hands to turn over in the finish with right (trailing arm) being pulled straight. Frankenburg and Hogan figured out now to make it occur as: 1) Face was square to target as wrists locked, and 2) ball decompressed off the face of the club. There is a 90° range of motion between the full radial deviation put into the wrists with they are forced to cock in the takeaway and loaded more at the start of the downswing and maxed-out ulnar deviation. If you analyze how far and quickly the club head moves if you simple WAGGLE the wrists from full radial deviation to full wrist locked unlar deviation you will understand how much F = 1/2 (Mass x Velocity^2) force it will create to compress the golf ball IF IT OCCURS WHILE THE BALL IS COMPRESSING. What Frankenberg realized was that if you timed the action so the face came square to the target at exactly the moment the wrists locked into maxed out ulnar deviation the ball gets compressed more than in a conventional “sweep through” swing and that the abrupt stopping of the club due to the wrist locking will cause the compressed ball to fly off the face faster and with more spin on an iron due to the basic laws of physics. But because going from full radial deviation (lag) to full ulnar deviation (release of lag) whips the face of the club closed 45° it is necessary to change body position radically (compared to normal swing) using a stance that is 45° closed to the target line. With the stance closed 45° when the club swings down and wrists lock, face is also locked dead straight to the target and the ball flies off of it dead straight EVERY TIME. But the ball must be placed back near the rear foot because that is were the club meets ground with face square to target. I discovered and mastered the Count Yogi swing a dozen years ago reading George Peper’s book “The Secret of Golf” which is a compilation of articles from Golf Digest over the years Peper was its editor. At the same time I was re-tooling my swing using Hogan’s Five Lessons and I realize that Hogan had incorporated that same maxing out of ulnar deviation as ball flies off the face into his swing. It explained why was known for being such a dead straight and accurate ball striker able to hit 150 yard 7-irons into a fruit basket held by his practice caddy. It has been part of my swing for over a dozen years now since discovering it and it amazes me that it is not more universally understood and taught because it results in more powerful and accurate shots which are usually straight or controlled draws. If you are curious enough to try it how Hogan used that wrist action to compress the ball better and release it straight off the face to the target I explain the cause and effect visually here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLCbaMho3LetioE.html
