Just stopped in to give people hope!! My husband and I had over 200k in debt a year ago. In about 10 months we paid off 156,000!! We immediately sold our truck and used equity to pay cash for a decent family vehicle and paid off a 5k credit card. We put our rv up for sale but have yet to sell it. We moved some debt around to lesson our minimum payments so that more could go towards the debt every month. We used our tax returns to pay down a large amount because we had 2 years worth due to an issue with a former cpa. We immediately started our budget back up. And we were able to put 3-4k a month towards our debts. When we did our budget for the year before selling the truck we were -500/mo. So honing in on what we were spending, selling things that were too costly, and getting creative with ways to save money helped us come up with thousands a month to put towards debt. Our debt calculator was discouraging, but a fire has been lit under us and we have set a goal to pay off the last 60k this year (by Dec 31st). We're still trying to sell our rv and have moved it to a consignment lot.

Budgeting is freedom! The Every Dollar program is SO helpful and easy to use, I wish I had this 10 years ago in our money journey as we would be farther ahead.

I’ve been trying to buy Rachael’s book here in the UK. The one for children called, “I’m Glad for What I have.” I want to read it to my Toddler Church groups, but can’t get it here….not even as an ebook. Can any one help? Thanks Fr Paul.

I think it would be great if John, Rachel, George, Jade and Ken all wrote a book together. Perhaps Dave himself could write a chapter or two as well.

Get rid of those credit cards, but use them one more time to spend $12.99 + shipping and handling to buy her book.😆

I like Jade and Rachel, they have great chemistry. As with all of these books, its a "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" situation. My experience with budgets is that they're incredibly helpful, both in the business world and in personal finance. A must have, like having a steering wheel for your car. Eyeballing things DOES NOT WORK. PERIOD. However there is such a stigma on budgeting in broader society that getting people to make one and stick to it is like asking someone to put a sticker on their forehead that says "loser" and be forced to go through life that way. My ex-spouse wasn't interested in budgeting with me when we were married and now is broke and in debt after we divorced despite having a high income. There is a lot of pride wrapped up in the ignorance of money. Until we start stigmatizing debt and shaming people for overspending, style will continue to prevail over substance when it comes to personal finance.
