Hi, welcome to ShuoshuoChinese 说说中文; my name is Shuo, I’m a native Chinese teacher living in Bangkok, Thailand, I’ve been teaching Chinese as a foreign language for more than 10 years and I’m also a language learner.
In this channel, I will upload a weekly video, in which I talk about Chinese vocabulary, Chinese grammar, Chinese culture, Chinese stories with pinyin and the English translation for listening practice.
With my channel, you can easily start to learn and understand complicated Chinese grammar, sentence structure, and differences/nuances between similar Chinese words.
If you are a Chinese beginner, I’m planning to upload videos about what Chinese language is, how it differs from English, Chinese pronunciations, Chinese characters and Chinese stroke sequences and a mini Chinese course, (10 minutes per day), which can help you learn quickly and easily. Don’t miss it!
So, subscribe to my channel and start your Chinese learning journey!

When I watch videos, I will sometimes pause after each sentence and say it outloud, trying to imitate the native speaker as much as possible. It's almost like practicing a music instrument. It's not enough to simply play the notes on the page, but you also have to get the pitch, articulation and dynamics correct as well. Eventually after a while, you no longer need to memorize the tones, etc. It just "sounds right" when you speak.
@TheExterminatrix

being a graduate in English philology (and also an amateur musician), I can say that imitating sounds of a language you're going to speak really helps, but many people find it ridiculous and confusing. In my university, we've even had an exercise to speak our native language (Russian) with English accent. This really was funny but helped a lot, though almost all of my groupmates found it disgusting and embarrassing.

@@KnightOfEternity13i think you have to see it as a separate practice. Theres listening practice and then theres pronunciation where you don’t need to necessarily understand everything. This could help a lot with cognitive load so you don’t feel frustrated by multitasking. But still your choice obviously, this us just one way.

You really have a point..bc from my own experience I learnt English for 2 years but still couldn't understand when people talk in English..Coincidentally, I saw a famous show called WWE..I used to just watch without paying attetion..I literally didn't understand a single thing..but with repetition and opening my ears I learnt English and I achieved an advanced level without paying either money of a great effort..

I think you're right that actors in movies don't sound as natural as the "real speech", but like listening news it could be a first step in learning, because they speak more clear than those in reality shows and it's easier to understand them.

I'm not studying Chinese at the moment, but the overall tip of the video is spot-on. In order to sound like natives, you must imitate them and exagerating. When I was a begginer in Arabic I would listen to Arabic-language radio constantly, as if it were music, and it helped be a lot to "normalize" the language sounds to my brain and internalize the way they speak.

他站在门口。 他在门口站着。 I think that the above two sentences mean the same thing. But, for the sake of rhythm, I think that 着 would be added in the second, but not the first sentence. For single-syllable words, I think that another syllable is sometimes added, for the sake of rhythm. Beyond this attempt to make a rule, it's probably impossible to make rules about good rhythm.

Just to nitpick this (since I know there are a lot of English learners in here too!) it's pro-nun-see-AY-shun, with one 's' sound in the middle. The first vowel is an 'o' ('pro') but because it's unstressed it's common to use a schwa, which makes it closer to pruh-nun-see-AY-shun. It's not 'pre', which would make it sound like a different word - there's no confusion with another word in this case, but for e.g. proscribe/prescribe the meaning changes if you use the wrong sound. That's my number one tip for natural-sounding English - learn the schwa (the most common vowel sound in the language!) and get used to using it in unstressed syllables. It doesn't work ~everywhere~, but like Shuo's saying here, you'll pick up the patterns by listening and imitating!
