I've managed to have a full conversation without having to translate anything at all. I always try to be immersed as much as possible into the language I'm learning. I've seen during those years the progress I've made and I'm proud. And my vocabulary has even gotten better since I've watched your videos. It's improving more and more.

My Italian colleague will say: "You want I do?" - he is saying "do you want me to do this?" In Italian it is: vuoi che io faccia questo? (Lit. you want that I do this?) This is an example of the present subjunctive mood in Italian which is, of course, almost entirely gone in modern English. So I understand why he struggles to translate this quickly in his head!

Once I was interviewing a guy from a job and he said several times: - I pretend to be the best employee. That's because the verb "pretender" in Portuguese is used when you have the intention to do something.

I guess, as this is the case with the majority of different languages, prepositions is the thing most students struggle with in the Czech Republic. While in Czech language, we say (na obrázku) using the preposition on, in English we should say in the picture - this is just one example to choose from many differences between Czech and English prepositions, let alone the syntax as such, conjugation etc.

Good video, thanks!) I think one example of false cognate in English and Russian is "intelligent". In Russian интеллигентный [inteligentny] means more 'genteel' or 'courteous' and many Russian people use English intelligent to describe a person like this. They use clever instead of intelligent :) Of course it happens only when they begin studying the language.

I read the comments section, if not understand, those words I translated my original language what's mean, then the next day same words I know what means so easy for me to use those words. Isn't a mistake to translate English words into your original language. Maybe it helps you to become fluent one day. Important to me I know already what means those words. And permanent what's mean I know already. I think it depends on you, how comfortable to learn English.

En todo caso debiste decir: "estoy embarazadO". Aunque como los machos de cualquier especie (excepto los caballitos de mar) no pueden quedar embarazados entonces la expresión "estoy embarazado" suena doblemente extraña.

But in Spanish, "embarazada" also it's connected with the meaning of embarrassed. For example, when something is shameful, a person can say that is "embarazoso", or a behavior can be "embarazoso". This adjective comes from "embarazo" because it's a difficult situation as to be pregnant. Perhaps it is due to an oppressive ideology about women and how is to be pregnant, as if having a baby was something shameful 🤦
