Here's why I subscribed. (As if anyone cares lol). He's got the cred. He's being himself. And despite being well, kind of a savage, he makes an effort to watch his language. In other words, he's just the kind of person I THINK is participating in the Opening Ceremony at the Olympics but most aren't. Hoping to watch him fly in Paris next year.

I feel like you would be a great coach. you are literally one of those few examples of an elite athlete who can ARTICULATE topics and what things feel like in a manner that a normal age-group athlete can follow

This is exactly the video I needed to watch today. I'm running a 10 mile race tomorrow which is not my goal race, so I've setup my Garmin to pace me around somewhere between my current 10k and Half Marathon pace. I'm doing the race with friends who are planning to run a faster time than my estimate for tomorrow, and I was so close to changing 'my' plan to basically race my friends. That's not my objective for this race. My goal is a Half Marathon in 6 weeks and I need to ensure I remain on track and on plan and not get caught up in an ego battle with my mates. Thanks for the sound advice yet again Stephen.

Agree with everything you say. Been building up since Sept and my marathon is now only 10 days away. One thing I will say, people have to be sensible enough to realise if they are just too tired/worn out to run....., one extra rest day won't kill you. I had to do it in Oct, about 5wks in to my plan. Benefitted me hugely. Keep up with the excellent videos

Thanks for your vids...you have helped me dial in on what I need to work on and have built my own sessions around that focus...my cadence was too low and have really worked on that and now my average pace is up and PB'd my last 10k race by 4 mins. Great to see a fellow Irish man excel in this space and build a great career from it to share with the rest of us that dream.

HA HA HA - this made me laugh as I fall 100% into the camp as "I have a plan and then my fitness increases and I get excited and go all out and ruin it" In fact, I did that just last night. Was going for an easy run but felt great so I jacked it up because why wouldn't I:) You just described me exactly. Great lesson as I head into this new season:) Thanks

Yeap done that as I sit here with a sore hamstring. Fortunately it's 26 weeks to my marathon and learnt my lesson early.

I feel like being flexible and listening to your body are essential to mental and physical wellness with running. If you have a firm plan, you're more likely to have injury, vs being able to say "man, this interval session feels too big for me right now, maybe just a steady run today". Every day I have an idea of what I want to do. If I do it, great. If I'm just not up for it because I got to bed late, or I had a longer day at work (I'm on my feet walking 20k steps every day), then maybe I'll change my plan to suit what my body is telling me. If you're someone that just HAS to stick to a plan, maybe you feel weak if you're not able to do the day's workout, causing psychological issues. I have miraculously not had any injuries on my current running endeavor, whereas 8-9 years ago I got knee issues quickly after trying to push too hard too quickly. I feel like my ability to be easier on myself, versus always pushing hard, is the main reason for that...even though I am a good deal older now.

My reward system: If I do all my mileage, workouts, and diet right for 24 days then I get 4 days straight of highER carbs and calories and lowER miles and workouts before the monthly club race. It's been a long 24 days of no carbs every month this year but I'm starting to feel like it's all coming together after 4 months of doing this.

I always struggle to run hard for the few days after a strength session in the gym, because of the muscle soreness, which has lead to me missing quite a few gym sessions. Any tips on how to relieve soreness and continue to run strong in the next days rather than having to take extra days off?
