This is the secret to ultra realistic model train graffiti without using decals. All of my model train graffiti is hand painted l but I have always tried to get very fine lines and realistic ho scale train graffiti. Even n scale model train graffiti is possible with these techniques that I have experimented with for the last 14 years. Model train graffiti can be simple and effective for adding realistic details to your model railroad or diorama.

I saw my boxcar! Yes, N scale graffiti is not easy to do. Especially when trying to do a full piece and trying to stay in the bottom 1/3 of the car's height. I've always wanted to get a garden scale train car to weather and add some graffiti to. The big size would be fun to work with!

A coat of matte varnish could potentially help with ink/paint that flows too much or doesn't stick well. Combine with some gloss varnish after the fact to restore gloss/clarity.

When you did the short of the calligraphy pen I thought it would probably work pretty good. I am definitely looking forward to trying out graffiti some more and trying out dry powder weathering and air brushing.

Ur are a master behind the camera. Ur presence is spot on. Ur camera cuts are on point. And ur graffiti ain't bad either. Ur going places.

have you tried a rapidograph pen? they are technical drafting pens pretty finicky but worth the hassle imo. as for the issue with dip pins on acrylic I would try coating the acrylic in various spray varnishes and see if those offer a better surface for the ink to adhere to.

No I haven’t. I’ll have to check those out. Yeah it works ok on the dried paint, but as soon as it hits an engraved window detail it sputters and then explodes. But I plan on experimenting. Just not on my final model 😝

The tiny struggle is real. How do the finer tip (PC-1M or PC-1MR) Posca paint pens compare in line width to a fine Sharpie?

They’re finer than the pc-1M but not as vibrant. But like most paint markers, it’s likely that they can leak out on the car

Do you just leave it as-is once your done, or do you seal your (really great) work afterwards. If you do seal: what do you use? I’ve used sharpies on miniatures before & found that it got trashed when varnishing afterwards.

Cool - so spray can stuff? Any specific brand? What I used was Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch & there was a bit of bleeding - it was like it reactivated the ink or something…

I wish you would make all graffittis on my country's trains (SBB - Switzerland) because most of them suck. Graffittis can be amazing but just taking your stinking name in simple black lines is just dumb. Want to leave a mark... leave a mark! And yours are grand!
