When you said talk without your tongue and you can't watch VeggieTale animations they used a lot of audio from stuff. They know people know of and yet they don't have tongues like they do everything with their mouths and what is VeggieTales you may ask search it up I'll give you a a couple boy the history Street a guy that was out on money and wanted to make a CGI thing in 19 that needed to because he had a what he barely had food and he had a kid coming so he got two and three animators himself Crystal and Robert Ellis then starts and then started animating on one computer and then when it was released the critics and kids and pretty much parents loved it they said the thing was clever despite the animation looking very weird and your outdated did because it was in 1993 but look at the second episode and look at the 2010 and episode that was I think I made an August I guess you can tell they didn't really actually the second one yes was a success but the animation was a lot more rubbery and there's a lot more animation errors because it was made in the 90s and he's pretty much every 90s episode had at least like 15 animation errors except the ones after and it's a Christian show so watch it you might be seeing that well they don't use their tongues what and they don't and the voice actors is just the creators it's like the wife of the guy that created the show voice of a character that had a hat and had one of the most annoying voices on the planet Earth when you hear it it's in the episode it also so don't use your tongue White I want to has made back then they didn't know how to animate limbs so anime one with so that the anime Limitless vegetables dang that's what you only see their tongue for example the first time you've probably ever see their tongue is in a segment that is that is a reoccurring segment name silly songs with Larry I think someone 2014 silly song where you get to see a tongue okay not really a tongue it's technically About Pets and also their animation could be low budget and it kind of is firstly when they were making their first movie in 2002 they said we thought of Noah's Ark but the fur would have killed us but firstly can you look at your episode Madame Blueberry or God wants me to forgive them from the second episode there were characters with hair the harridan look like hair just looks like Blobs of things that go in your head or like a plastic hair thing but there you go they don't use tongues even though some of them have a lisp they don't use tongues do a couple characters that have stairs types like a old man and a black stereotype your type and technically British stereotype though their British accent sounds funny at the second character the first character that was made for the show before the show started which was you know a cucumber and guess what his name was Mister cute when he first was a thing and then his name came to Larry

13:50-22:00 THIS!~ This is the stuff i needed to know. So now i know i've been messing up the B/P sounds by copying the shape list without knowing what it means. Understanding you can setup for some sounds but have sounds that happen on the open is so very important! Im not sure why i didnt figure this out while actually doing the mouth shapes for the words.

In old times the rigs were very heavy so we animated the mouths first as they were independant from interaction for the most part, unlike eyes looking, or body moving, this also helped with overall timing

Hi, I am no animator at all but always enjoy your videos (even quite theoretical like this one). I would have love to have more example to compare the weirdness of missing stuff or impacts: - lets go with or without a hard t - mum with or without the Jaw/lip sync - a sentence with or without tongue animation - ... Of course this probably requires more time, but lets face it : you are organic, and even when you lock some part of your face it is still a plausible animation of your own face :p (having those example would help evaluate the gain of each improvement, and decide whether it worse the investment for a specific shot.

This was super insightful! Quick question: how long did it take you to animate any of the transition examples? For example, the "War... War never changes" or the "So, it's treason then"? I have a lip-sync assignment coming up with dialogue of a similar length so just curious how long it would take a professional animator and to get a better understanding of what I should be aiming for! Thanks!
@SirWade
@SirWade 2 жыл бұрын
They were pretty quick, I think the 'War' one was like 2 hours, and the rest were between 20min and 4 hours. 'Whoa Yo' was like 20min haha, the rest were longer. But none of them are polished, either.

Thanks for the guidance. You have shared really useful tips. Still I would like to ask one thing; characterization! To have consistency through out a film for the talking style of a character, I understand that studios relies on some famous artists to be voice actors for the characters in that film. KZfaq shows many 'behind the scene' videos of Disney and Dreams Works studios. My question is that in such cases, whether animators consider the voice artist's action as a reference for animating the lip sync or will they have any other character design directions from the director of the film, that the character should be animated in a particular way while speaking some words or letters ?
@SirWade
@SirWade 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes production will get permission to film the actors, not sure if that's always guaranteed, but animators can sometimes request the reference if they do want to include things from the original performance! But usually it's not the go-to; reference is done by the animators and those characterization elements are sometimes added as a polish-y bit. But that's why there are character leads and supervisors, to keep things consistent and make sure the character's quirks are weaved throughout the performances, whether or not they originated from the actor.
