I'm currently learning not to do more than one thing simultaneously, because of my ADHD I am so used to do two or more things at once and your videos really help me focus on one thing at a time. Not only because I can think about the puzzle with you, but also because of your positive and calm attitude.

I'm loving this channel, and while I find the logic easy enough to follow, I often find I lack the experience to know where to look next, and it can be overwhelming. That is why I love, love, love the way Simon presents these videos. So often he'll say something along the lines of "have a look at box five", or "I think the 2s might be interesting". This lets me pause the video and see whether I can spot the next step having been pointed in the general direction. Even the title of the video in this case gives an important clue...I would never have thought to look at parity without it. Thank you so much, keep up the good work.

Funny thing for me is that when I try most of these, that Simon solves, myself I don't have a clue what to do. Then I watch what Simon does and get the break and from that I'm almost always one step ahead of Simon. The reason i think is that I don't need to tell anyone how I found what I found. And I think that must take time and focus which leads to why Simon misses things..

Woohoo! Second feature on the channel, feels just as cool as the first time. Excellent solving by Simon as always (while also slowing down to explain everything brilliantly, and making very nice comments about the puzzle along the way). Bonus fun fact about this puzzle: If you remove the black dot from box 6 (or just ignore it until you've resolved all of the other clues), you get a VERY interesting deadly pattern at the end.

I don't think these guys, especially Simon, give themselves enough credit for how instrumental they have been in bringing us all to the point where we CAN shout at the screen when they say "I can hear you shouting at me!" (shouting for them). So really it's them shouting for themselves, as they should.

The poltergeist is Maverick's grandfather who fell foul of the antiknights who say Nori-Nori, and met a tragic end due to the ensuing deadly pattern. In his will he left his entire estate to Maverick on condition that his grandson would dedicate his life to disturbing the daily peaceful gatherings of the devout who seek enlightenment, strive to master the secret and achieve release and resolution of deep and meaningful problems. It is a sort of conspiracy, you see.

When starting the puzzle, one can immediately place a 5 in r1c9, i suppose... because in row 1 the three x-dominos add up to 30 and they cannot contain a 5; and r1c3 is indeed an even number and the 5 cannot go at the black kropki dot in r1c6, so we are left with r1c9 as the only option for the 5.

This was an excellen puzzle. Simon said it was a long sequence of deep deduction, but I dont think that is fair. As far as the difficult puzzles featured on this channel I think this was among the more digestible ones and it did not require very difficult logic, just a trained eye for where to look next.

1:04:59 for my solve time. I independently came up with the same even/odd coloring to help me figure it out. This wasn't a tough challenge, but a fun and lengthy solve. I started with the path you almost went down, by finding the 5 in row 1, and finding which X sums had to be odd or even in row 1. But your way was a lot faster to find the parity of boxes 1, 4, and 7. However I'm proud of myself for figuring out X sums had to be either both even or both odd faster. It's really fun to learn new things while solving, then get them confirmed by watching the video. Removing the 5 from being in row 2 of box 2 was also really useful, because that would've broken the 456 triple. I also finished the coloring before I put in the last digit. I know that hurt my time, but I think I'm going to keep doing that.

I grew up hearing "as much use as a chocolate fireguard" and only encountered the chocolate teapot version as an adult. Melted chocolate in tea is really nice, albeit from a chocolate teapot you'd likely also scald yourself. So, something nice with a sting in the tail, vs something that is only a waste of time and will make a mess. ...And it's official, I'm overthinking this.

35:27 you know the cell he selected is a 9 (r9c4) because of the white kropki dot in box 5. There is either a 9 in r4c6 which places a 1 in r7c6 and a *9 in r9c4(!!)*, or there is a 1 in r4c5 which places a 9 in r1c5 and a 1 in r1c4, and a *9 in r9c4(!!)*. And that 9 makes a lot of progress in the puzzle.

Oh this was a *very* fun puzzle to do. Not sure of my time since I left it running overnight accidentally, but suspect I ran ~3h total (including a good chunk of time lost from two logic errors that required me to backtrack significantly once I accidentally caused contradictions). Difficulty felt like it was on the high side of moderate - some of the deductions were tricky, but reasonably well-telegraphed, so that I usually knew where I should be looking. Only significant delay was figuring out the dots interaction in box 6 near the end, which took a lot of staring before it finally slapped me in the face. My solution path overall matched Simon's very well!

I really enjoyed solving this one. I do wonder if I would have taken longer to find the path in if it wasn't for the hint in the video title.

The pen tool (activated in the settings) was very useful to mark odds and evens 'O' and 'X' leaving colours free to mark matching dominoes.

Very fun puzzle! The logic was not terrifically complex or difficult to see, each step had something to reveal. But because each logical deduction bought only a tiny bit of progress, it felt like the puzzle went on and on. Very enjoyable. For reference, I am not a great solver, Mark's Tangled solve today really did my head in with all the inferences he seemed to pull out of nowhere. Almost 2 hours to solve for me, it would have been 1.5 hours were it not for the whole half hour that I was stuck for failing to appreciate that the 2s in box 6 could only be on the dot :/. Stubbornly refused to watch the video because I had gotten so far on my own!

31:35 2 and 8 were already ruled out from the X-domino in r8c6 and r9c6 for quite some time: the options in r2c6 were 2 and 8 so there was no way to use any of them in the X-domino

if you click on the pen button, and then click on the edge of a box, you can place an X there to denote that those two boxes sum to 10.

I noticed that the upper right corner has to be a 5 since 5 can't be in am X, can't be with a black dot and can't be in a box that adds to an odd number with all the other squares... And that's as far as I got

I always use green (even) and red (odd) for parity, but blue/even and orange/odd are close enough, so I can't complain.
@pmsteven1
@pmsteven1 2 жыл бұрын
Just as you use Orange for odd may I suggest light grey for even. I know you don’t like grey (even though I used the British spelling!), but using grey forms a grey square which is used to indicate even in puzzles that clue even digits.
