The Secrets of Seed Cleaning! Wheat and other grains!
Let me take you along for a look into the secret operation of agriculture, seed cleaning. Seed cleaning is very important and without it we would not have the potential to have a great harvest. It all starts with the seeds you put into the ground. Seed cleaning also helps with weed prevention. Hodgskiss Seed Plant kindly took me on a tour of their operation so that you and I could learn more about seed cleaning. I had so much fun making this video. I hope you have great time watching it! My Story... Hello. My name is Kate Stephens and I am a 16-year-old 4th generation farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was 2 years old. Until recently the wheat we grow has been taller than me. My grandfather is 93 and he is the best mentor ever. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm and I decided that the amazing photos I take at harvest of our wheat and barley could make fabulous, exciting designs for fashion and accessories. That is how Kate’s Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my handbag as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

All kids should be raised on a farm. They would learn a work ethic and understand where food comes from. Plus I think these families all have good morals and understand the need to help your neighbors . Kate you are a wonderful little girl, I am sure your family is very proud of you...

That was different Kate. I was aware that seeds have to be cleaned and treated but I never imagined the scale of the operation and the detail involved like for instance saving the seed samples and for so many years and to think it all started from such a small concern. Well done to everyone involved, that was a very good tour.

Thank you Kate and the family at Hodgskiss Seed Plant. I never new the scale of the possess of cleaning seed. My grand Dad told me that seed for the farm has to be very clean. I never thought to ask him, How. That was a very very long time ago in the 1960's I was a little boy, And along came you Kate with this wonderful channel. I just started watching about a week ago. Thanks to youtube suggesting it to me. And Thank you Hodgskiss family for giving us the tour of this complex possess. I now have more respect for how the price on produce is. It is not such a simple thing to just toss a seed in the ground, and harvest it . It's very expensive circle of things that have to be done. Wow. 👍👍👍

In Australia today there are trials taking place with GMO wheat. There have been 11 GMO wheat products trialed in Australia since 2005. This, contrary to the uninformed opinions of many, is a good thing. GMO's are the future of agriculture to insure we are able to feed the growing world population. GMO rice (Golden Rice) has done more to reduce hunger world wide than any other agricultural breakthrough in history.
