While I rarely cross the line over into gospel music on my channel, this #50 hit from 1964 is a good listen. From what I read, it was the first million-selling gospel single, so that might explain why it hit the Billboard Country charts. I don't know much about the group, but I've read Naomi is still alive and performs from time to time still, at least as of a few years ago (outliving both of her husbands). Anyhow, this RANDOM PICK of mine for today is worth a listen or 5, so enjoy!

This song really touches my heart and soul. To listen to the words and think of going to hell and your family going to heaven without you is very painful. It means we have to serve God here and be ready at any time He calls. THANK YOU.

This is the first gospel song to ever sell a million copies and it's easy to see why. Still one of the greatest songs in gospel music history. Rest in peace to mrs. Naomi and all the other original sego brothers. Thanks for your great legacy and heritage you left for us to follow.

Southern Gospel Music includes The Segos with Naomi were the first to move their music from Vynal to Digital CD in the late 70s early 80s. The reason in my opinion is Southern Gospel Music was recorded in and around Nashville. Of course, back then, I remember on late Friday Nights, the Grand Ole Opry would go from Country to having Southern Gospel Acts preform live and on 650 WSM. As a kid in the 70s, I love to DX on AM, but we lived 30 minutes from Downtown Nashville, WSM-AM's Transmitter was in Brentwood, TN, so I would filp on WSM and hear Gospel Music on the Grand Ole Opry. Oh Yes, I loved Opryland and I miss the Park here in Nashville!

Just heard this again, last time I heard it was when I was a little child and I'm 55 now. Brings back memories when my mom played it all the time in 70s. It got my full attention then and now that I turned to the Lord, it doesnt scare me anymore! Thank you Jesus.

I grew up with this song! My dad had this record and sang it in church many times. I used to cry at the last verse every time he sang it. I can't wait to hear this dear sweet lady sing it in glory!

Mother had Gospel programs on theTV every Sunday morning. This song was sung every Sunday morning for a long time. I heard this song so often while waiting for mother and my sister to get ready for church, I knew it by heart. It is a heart-rending recording from Naomi and the third verse brings tears to my eyes, still.

The seago brother's & Naomi,.... Wow,.....there was a time when music,...Gospel music had a message. The idea of songs of south,.this gives way .comes to the term,....(southern Gospel ) A lot of these songs got their starts in Holiness Churches ,any place that preached hell so hot your seat almost caught fire. These are the churches I love. The spirit of Almighty God Was therr,....The preaching was right down the line. The songs also had a CONVICTION TO THEM, church we've come a long way,....BUT IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. Fred seago was always on naomi's right.....he played guitar for the group until his passing. slowly the rest went to be with the lord as well. Naomi remarried after a few years her last name is Reeder. This woman,...with the anointing that was placed on few in those days,...vestal goodman,...labreiska Hemphill, and Dottie rambo, God used the conviction power many people got saved.... But where has it all gone....? this stuff now is ok,....I guess.... but church we.need to get on the old path that works again. love the music, evangelist jerry f.miller

She could definitely sing. Watched this group on Sunday morning along with other groups when i was a kid in the 60's. Singing Caravan and Gospel Jubilee were two programs I never missed on Sunday. Back then there was no Southern Gospel, Contemporary Gospel et cetera. It was all Gospel Music.

Dennis it is a known fact that it takes just as much for a preacher to preach a sermon from the pulpit and for a singer to sing a song as it does for someone to put in 8 hours of hard manual labor.

Hard to express just how big a hit this was back when it came out, at least in the South. It got as much airplay on stations that played secular music as some country and rock "hit" offerings. I was only 11 at the time but was still amazed that a gospel song, even though a great sounding gospel song, could have so much impact on the overall music scene of the day. I think Naomi's heartfelt, soulful rendering of the song (even though written for a male voice) had a lot to do with it. Her's was a truly superb rendition. Thanks for the upload, W. Great memories.

There is no money in singing the whole truth. Jesus spoke more about Hell than Heaven. I don’t know why preachers like Paul Washer never point this out.

Hell is never the subject in Christian music nowadays. In fact I have never heard of any other musician writing on Hell from the 1970s to this day in 2022. This is the only sermon that I wept and my hand could hardly hold the pages while reading. I don’t know how I made it through except by my Father’s grace. Not Spurgeon, not Paul Washer, no one but this: www.jonathan-edwards.org/Sinners.pdf
