Off topic but...I'm listening to this story and how USA and the French did nothing while Tutsis were being killed, and I just remembered how in Kenya we still give them priority over our own. I've lost count of the number of times I've gone to a retail shop and attendants ignored me but immediately they saw a white person wanaruka karibu hata wambebee shopping bag. One time kwa beauty shop I waited until the white customer left, I then tipped all the attendants 1k each and told them "Tuache kujichukia."

That's the main reason why Kagame changed Rwanda's official language from French to English. Rwanda is now anglophone. Not francophone anymore. That's why they're now called Rwandans and not Rwandese (from French Rwandais and Rwandaise). He also speaks about it openly and told France off. I think France apologized and are still trying to win back the trust of Rwandans. You can search his interviews on KZfaq. Clinton apologized but the damage had already been done. Koffi Annan also failed Rwanda terribly. However,it was more out of policy issues than out of individual actions. Reading biographies written about the genocide also gives you the exact picture.aa I have read 2. One is "We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families" by Philip Gourevitch and "Left to Tell" by Immaculée Ilibagiza. Very sad stories. I couldn't finish reading Philip's book. I read it after reading Immaculée's. Talking to colleagues from other African countries such as Liberia and Sierra Leone that are still recovering from civil wars has made me appreciate our country. There are also countless videos and documentaries about these countries. Some are so graphic that I couldn't watch them.

The sad thing about the Rwandan genocide is they had been speaking the same language, had the same culture, and had been living side by side for hundreds of years. Even though Tutsis migrated to Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Congo, from Ethiopia, they settled in just fine and assimilated in the culture just fine. They intermarried and mixed in with the Hutus. In other words, you were killed based on your looks. It’s sad that we can let bad politics come between us so easily. How easily we can become drunk on hate.😞😞😞 General Dallaire made a documentary about his experience, titled, “To Shake Hands With the Devil.” It is heavy to watch. I cried! He has major PTSD from what he saw in Rwanda. I pray and hope that he got therapy after that. Captain Mbaye was a real exemplary guy!

My primary school classmate was one of those kids hidden in the underground holes. The Hutus missed their hole by chance, but killed every other person from the rest of the holes. One of his parents was Tusti and the other was Hutu. They managed to escape to Kenya through Uganda (his dad, elder brother and him). His mom and other sibling, were left in Rwanda. Luckily the entire family survived. I can't remember the entire story but it was horrific 😢.

1:49 lord Edgerton after building the castle for the lady he was madly in love with, the lady didn't appreciate claiming its like a dog house, and rejected him in the long run, Edgerton on devastated he loathed women, he Fired all the female staff (workers) in his property, got rid of any female dogs in his property. Lesson love hurts really bad when you have deep feelings for someone and in return you get nothing from the latter

This story should also fundamentally serve to remind us as Africans, and inform the ignorant among us of how the western (white) world/societies views us. We are all alone as Africans, we have none in our corner but ourselves. So, as much as majority of Sub Saharan Africans want and desperately try to ape, associate and project themselves as western, let them do so knowing that mzungu is not your friend. Though they may smile at you, deep down they believe and view you as a less intelligent, thereby less deserving human species, and as pariahs especially when you are in their countries. The recent Ukraine/Poland border racial profiling incidences only serves to remind us of this. When this realization hits in, that Africa is all that we got, and our fellow Africans are the only ones in our corner, then we will jealously and steadfastly guard and defend our cohesion. Mkuru, kazi safi hii. Talent kubwa. Wewe na Mr Ballen; same whatsapp group. Respect

Abel, your story telling is a true art. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story of courage and humanity. Also, thank you for doing your part in educating us and reminding us that we should not allow ourselves to be played for people's political gain.

You should all read the bestseller by Lt, GEN Romeo Dallaire SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL 'The failure of humanity in Rwanda'. A very informative book regarding the Rwandan Genocide.
