Say what you like about him, but that level of honesty and rawness needs to be commended. Well done.

I don’t think it was a coincidence that Shaun Johnson was there for that interview, I can’t believe that that he hadn’t come right as a halfback after witnessing this. This is not only half back master class, but the master class at life. To be able to speak honestly about your lows as your highs is the way to not only shine light on your own troubles but to light the way for others.

I experienced the same symptoms as Joey and wasn’t going to do anything about it until I watched this interview. I did and the doctors told me I have exactly the same thing.

It's weird watching this... Matty Johns is obviously famous and I think brilliant on TV, but there's an interesting dynamic between the two. Joey is quite rightly an immortal and just the way they sit, Joey just seems on a different level. Its nothing that's deliberate, but it's like they're amongst royalty... obviously Rugby League royalty. Very interesting.

@000pts Andrew Johns does not have to do this. He did not have to open himself up to ridicule by talking about the demons in his head. Tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of people instantly criticised him. The drugs and alcohol were to cloud a problem, not the cause of them, he found out the hard way that doesn't work, they make it worse, not better. As did I. When he first did this years ago in a press conference in Newcastle, I was watching the news with my gf and burst into tears. I was really struggling at the time, something was wrong but didn't know what it was, every day was working out a way to kill myself and make it look like an accident so my family wouldn't blame themselves. My head going 1000 miles an hour all the time - cant sleep, just thinking constantly, then crash and not get out of bed. Never able to relax. I was alone, most lonely when around a lot of people. Drinking a lot and smoking weed, taking pain killers from a back injury to, well, try and kill myself another way? Didn't care. That press conference was the first time I realised that I wasn't alone, other people had this too, it was extremely emotional. I'm still here 20+ years later - I have 2 daughters and a wonderful life. If Andrew Johns hadn't done what he did, I'm not sure I'd have those things. So people may criticise him, but to me doing what he did probably saved my life. Never met the guy, wasn't even a Knights fan, but what he said spoke to me personally. A million people criticised him, they had an opinion.....I think he would be far more concerned with the half-dozen or dozen? people he helped. That was why he did it. I'm forever grateful he did.

Troy Staunton yes you’re right, they faced off in 3 origin series each winning one each and a draw. However Joey actually won more origin games against Alf than Alf did against Joey. Joey won 3 games in 96, 1 game in 98 & 2 games in 02 (I’m including the draw) Langer won 0 in 96, 2 games in 98 and 2 games in 02 (again including the draw) so that makes it 6-4 to Joey but even if you take away the draw from Joey he still wins 5-4
@troystaunton2543 жыл бұрын
@@Zmart30 Joey was not half back in any of those 1996 games. Geoff was. So no going head to head at halfback, Alf was better.

@@troystaunton254 what does it matter? He still played halfback, he only defended from dummy half, he even said that in immortal behaviour. He won more games against langer. Langer struggled to do the basics, Johns is better
