So, I have a question. Should I be able to see flares exactly like this with my own human vision? 😮 I recently discovered that I have some form of astigmatism which causes me to see streaks of light on street lamps, car lights, any lights really, but especially really bright lights. It can actually be quite blinding and a safety hazard when someone has their high beams directed at me and all I can see is bright white that completely blinds me to my surroundings. So I always thought that everyone could see such streaks of light and I was pretty shocked to discover that's not the case. Ever since I got into photography and I've been learning about different lenses and anamorphic lenses, in conversing with other people about them is how I learned that most people don't see flares and streaks of lights. So then, I come across this video and it caught my eye immediately because I have never seen these precise kind of flares captured in any motion pictures, however I see them a lot with my own eyes when sun light is gleaming in my direction. I actually think that in my case, it is the sun glare hitting my eye lashes and I am able perceive to when the waves of light pass between the hairs of my lashes, and then a magnificent show of rainbow flares much like these, but even more spectacular start to cover a large portion of my vision. I'll even squint my eyes so that the flares become larger, more abundant, and more colorful! It's a magical experience, and I wonder if, like with the streaks, I am the odd one out here with being able to capture these magical flares with my own eyesight.
