I seriously loved seeing all the nice comments on this video! My uncle was the bass player for this band for a while and it made me so happy to see what you all thought of this!

This song triggers so many emotions

Mercer describing the song in an interview: “When you’ve got that friend who is depressed and bummed and you just want to shake them out of it and be like, ‘Come on, isn’t there anything that you can grab on to that you can enjoy?’ Something I wish that somebody would’ve asked me that question at certain points in my life, you know?”

All I can say about this song is that it literally warms my heart and has helped me through some incredibly painful times lately.

for me, this song is talking about an elderly person making a caution about life. The curiousity and the safety of our childhood didnt let us fall into any "REAL" darkness. However, after we were growing up, we face a lot of darkness which causing by the world and our own, the monster could be interperated as our struggling between our mind and the world. At the end, the child curious about what s happening on that man, then he was distracted by the fireworks easily, not because he didn't care, it's just because: He didnt understand. It's both pessmistic and optimis for me about this song. Although it state out how hard of our lives are, it also claims that: it's only life, I am not the only one who s suffered in the darkness. Cheer up guys!

4 herniated discs, after a recent hospital visit and an MRI I heard this. These last few weeks have been hell, constant pain and money dropped on medical bills. Right now is hell and there is little too hand on but, this song is something I can hold onto, thanks for providing some hope for me. I love you James and your fabulous band.

This is the most beautiful song I've heard in years. I was sleeping in my bed, with the radio on Triple J. I woke up to this song with a feeling of bliss. It's so gorgeous. I've made it my YT main video. Thank you...it's so beautiful.

This song helps me to cry out my depression, when I can't get it to come out on its own. Sometimes the catharsis of crying is the relief one needs to pick themself up and continue the struggle.

Shins playing for Arden in Phuket. Searching for work the Shins is always filled with hope and inspiration. Been listening to the, since 2004/05 while in Osaka, Japan. I have seen about every country in Asia. Left it all behind in Vancouver and Seattle but kept the Shins with me. Singing from Phuket.

Ah, this video takes me back to my childhood. I had my plastic mecha robot (i think gundam) in one hand, my fake ninja sword in the other hand, and would wear a scary dragon mask which i thought at the time blended in with ghosts and monsters. This song always reminds me to stay optimistic, have faith, and to never give up and keep fighting!

The Shins make me happy. Can't wait to see them at Lollapalooza in a couple weeks. Been enjoying Port of Morrow all summer.

This song has so much meaning for me, like that one time when I literally went "down the rabbit hole" and then there was like this one big rabbit and he was all like "ARRRRRRRRR BIG RABBIT I AM" except not in a pirate accent, and no his name wasn't Harvey like a bunch of people have asked, and he didn't really look like the black robe deer things or whatever they are in the video but anyway I was saying - this kid reminds me of that one book by that guy that died, "Where the Wild Things Are."
