Living with HIV is an ongoing process that I am only five years into. Although I have been undetectable for four years now and am probably healthier than I have ever been in my life. The first few months out of the hospital were my darkest days for sure. I felt like a walking time bomb full of filth and disease. Scared to death I would accidentally give somebody HIV. So many days I thought about taking a walk and putting a bullet into my head just to get out of this nightmare and rid my family of my problems. Thankfully I never went through with it. The beginning SHOCK was probably the worse part. My advise to anybody who has recently tested positive would be to build a support system consisting of family and possibly a very close friend or two and learn as much about HIV as you can. Educate yourself about everything and anything about HIV/AIDS. Getting and staying healthy is key to owning this disease. Even though it might seem hopeless, It is not the end of your life just because you tested +.

Wow ! Honestly, the 17minutes you spoke delivered more insight and education on HIV than I had collected within my entire lifetime. Your personable demeanour and picture image of vitality and health amplifies an already powerful message . Thank you for the courage and fortitude to put yourself out there and share your revelation of what I perceive as a triumph. Undoubtably you are reaching people in need with your powerful life changing message. Inspiring, admirable , living example that life is what we make of it. In Australia high school during the 90's our HIV/AIDS education was basically a documentary titled Suzy's Story and a couple of grim reaper commercials. Other than that they taught us to practice safe sex or face the reaper... Today if High schools were to show your 17min clip I'm certain in 20years from now the impact would still be remembered , just like Suzy's Story, only I much prefer your positive candid approach . Thank you ❤️🇦🇺😎

You are doing such amazing work. I am full of admiration for you. As a nurse, I worked with HIV+ children in the 1990s and worked also with the HIV Coordinator. I remember the fear, the sickness and the side effects of the medication, but mainly the fear. I moved away from this work and into the mental health field in 2002 and am now retired, so have not kept up with advances in HIV/AIDs treatment. You have educated me, for sure, although I would hope that I have never stigmatised the disease. I am so happy to know that you and others are living healthy, happy lives after diagnosis. I love your positivity and the hope and encouragement you are giving others.

Stacey Roberson There are times that I use the dislike button because I don't have another way of saying something in the vlog is bothersome--not a dis of the vlogger. Update: I will never again use the thumbs down icon if I am responding to something within the Vlog as I now realize that it is a demerit against the Vlogger which I didn't intend. So sorry!

KZfaq does count it as a negative toward the video though. Only 👍🏻 please 🙏🏼 - unless you hate it, then by all means. 😂
@Pozleigh
@Pozleigh 5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately KZfaqrs don't have any control of likes or dislikes or any ability to remove the options. It's a way for other viewers to judge whether a video is worthy of watching. If a video has a low amount of dislikes and many likes, then it's deemed a great video. If the video has a higher ratio of dislikes to likes than it's probably not the best made video. It's KZfaq's rating system essentially.

Stacey Roberson It could’ve been a person that was so scared that they just figured disliking the video would just take it out of their head otherwise I have no explanation why somebody would say negative unless they were some crazy racist

Jennifer-What an incredibly brave and honest video. Sharing the details of your diagnosis must be difficult, but I'd imagine it fills in the blanks for a lot of people. So many live with the notion of "what if". You are the example of the person who weathered the storm and came through the other side as strong as ever. My story is very different from yours in that I lived in fear for years. Perhaps sometime I'll drop you a message and tell you about it. I am in awe of you and Eric.....both such fine people. Keep up the great work.

Love what you're doing to educate people. One time, I received a letter in the mail from my health insurance. I had just re-enrolled a couple weeks before and the letter denied me for coverage because they said I was diagnosed for HIV. In fact, I had had an HIV test and the diagnostic code (I assume) was mixed up saying I was positive. That was one of the most nerve wracking days of my life. I went and got a blood test and a saliva 5 minute test (thank god for these clinics that serve the LGBT population and have these tests) and both ended up being negative. I was so distraught but it also taught me a lot. How quick things can change in just one second. It also made me really dislike insurance companies lol. It was Bluecross and I still have the letter.

I love watching your videos because I had an Uncle that was diagnosed in the mid 90's. About 8-9yrs ago he got really down on himself & feeling completely alone. As a result he meticulously planned his suicide, even going to the extent of paying his bills, leaving money & a note to the family to pay for his cremation, bought a gun.....then one day, what seemed to us out of nowhere, he called the police & said there was a suicide in progress at his address, then hung up & shot himself at his picnic table outside. I wish there was something like KZfaq & places like your channel where he could have found some solace & hope & not felt so lonely. It's sad that he felt this was his only way out! Thank you for bringing awareness & hope to SO MANY people & letting people know there's nothing to be ashamed of!

Stigmas for diseases really suck, sex is the most natural part of life. I worked around high concentrations of dry cleaning solvent for 10 years and it gave me lupus, along with serious symptoms I have a bad face rash and many small skin sores, I've also had 5 strokes related to my lupus so my speech is slurred and stuttered I know people look at me and think i'm a drug addict, one stroke I had in walmart, everyone ignored my requests for help because i could barely speak, finally a worker got me asprin but she hung over me telling me i had to go pay, she thought a was a crack head with slurred speech and sores all over me, not worth the potential loss of $3 asprin, not worth saving in anyones eyes that day Thanks for your video, it helps more than just HIV patients. Hope you can maintain a healthy life, you have a good attitude

What does the medication actually do to HIV? Will it prevent it from becoming aids or does it only slow the process??
@catcallender5913
@catcallender5913 4 жыл бұрын
Geovanny Espinoza it prevents hiv from progressing into full blown aids. Hiv turns to aids when your T cell count gets below a certain number. Medication now keeps your T cells so high that there is virtually no difference between people that have hiv and those that don’t. People with hiv now can live as long as someone who doesn’t. The problem lies in the fact that the medication prolongs life so much that many people end up becoming immune to the medication & have to be switched to something that may not work as well as previous medications did. This can happen with any medicine though, not just antiretrovirals.

lunabird89 with the old tests they suggested getting re tested 6 months after the first test to confirm or get diagnosis since viral load had to be higher then to be diagnosed. Tests now are a lot more sensitive & can generally give an accurate result fairly soon after transmission. I believe it is 4 weeks after transmission the test can detect it.

They either aren’t diagnosed or for whatever reason may be preventing them, they are not taking their medication.

Samantha Moseley what Jennifer said. With some people living with the virus & having no symptoms for up to 10 years people simply don’t know & pass it on in that time period. Some cases are due to people that are, sad to say, sick in the head & know they have it & intentionally try to give it to others. Testing for it isn’t routine so some are slipping through the cracks. Personally, I think everyone should be tested much like those between the ages of 15-25 that are at greatest risk for gonorrhea & chlamydia get tested at every women’s visit.

Ellie C pre exposure prophylaxis. This is given to many as a preventative if they have high risk lifestyles, it is also given to partners of individuals that are positive for certain sti’s. If taken prior to the sexual encounter it makes catching it virtually impossible.

Yes. They're all on my LIVE Playlist (past lives). Friday nights are a good time for me to go LIVE, I'm PST (California), so roughly 7pm. I'll announce it. Follow me on Instagram @Vongirl24. I post it on YT also, but I'm not sure how many see that feed.

This could literally happen to any of us. Think about your early 20's having unprotected sex. Please dont judge because any of us could have easily contracted HIV

I had my blood drawn at 11am yesterday it’s 7:10pm the next day and I don’t know what to think. I’m assuming the lab would have sent a positive result ASAP to my doctor either yesterday or today but I guess I have to wait it out. So scared and anxious.
