Terry Wright......this is a great training tool to know what you need to look for in the less expensive scope lines. I myself own Swarovski, Zeiss, Schmidt and Bender and Leupold. None of my hunting buddy's can afford them and are waiting for me to die so they can help themselves. LOL! Nikon, Vortex and Leupold make great products for thier price range. But looking at what Swarovski has, you should look for features in the lower lines that can meet or exceed your expectations. Its all what you need and what you can afford.

Great quality shows, but why do you insist on only showing the top end equipment. We aren't all loaded especially nowerdays, Swarovski are probably the most expensive scopes on the market. Let's see some lower priced gear, Nikon, Hawke, Vortex etc. Love the shows but time to think about the working man.

+Terry Wright My thoughts exactly. £2500 for a scope is ridiculous.

I would add Weaver and Bushnell to the list.

+Terry Wright Not sure that Swarovski would let them film (advertise) a lower end (read absolutely perfect scope but not costing thousands). In the lower end market of Hawke (decent, ok), then slighty up they could have Nikon (not bad at all, underated) and then Leupold (all you ever need in the real world). I use Nikon and Leupold. I looked at Swarovski and the glass is perhaps a 0.1% improvement but really not worth the extra - especially in the UK where range etc is extremley limited. Then you are hauling around a very heavy, bulky piece of kit. If you are shooting sub 200m (most normal shooting) then nobody can make a decent case for this type of scope. For those that must spend the maximum regardless of the choice, these scopes are out there an the buyer will justify their expense by saying they need the light, range and in any case they have the right to buy at any price. By the way I have around 25 rifles and handguns adding up with the scopes, accessories etc to more than €75K so I'm not saying this because I'm jealous but rather realistic.

Just a point of interest, why does the Shooting Show team never comment on here? Come on Mr Carr, let's hear from you.

steve garnett. what is your point I am an avid Himalayan Tahr and Chamois hunter/shooter. I use a blaser 25-06 and a 3x12x56 zeiss victory with lit reticle. what is your issue i wonder with the big scopes. Most of my kiwi hunting friends use expensive sako rifles then put a cheap arsed smartie tube scope on it,must be a kiwi thing a.

Scope snobs dont care about cost. It's a bragging position..lol.. Not much longer until i can just push the button on the control while i look into my smart phone, watch the ol' blote drop, take a sip of bean juice and then go back to bed for an hour. Why buy this, just buy the scope that tells you the range and fires the gun too. Shit..

"Recticle". You'd think English people could get their own language right. It's "Reticle" there is no "c" in front of the the "t".

I will be happy when the long range fad wains. The whole industry is geared to it regrettably with a notable absence of improving scopes for the light minded mountain hunter. Scopes in this domain are sadly ignored. Take the NF 2-10x24 which is ideal in its length and magnification though way overweight at 17ozs as you might expect of a military scope but weight aside obviously the technology is about to make a scope of short dimensions which would compliment a short light carbine style rifle for alpine hunting with more than adequate magnification. Now forget illuminated reticles- a total nonsense and an area where weight can be reduced significantly. The 24mm objective is near perfect and will avoid unnecessary knocks due to its streamlined dimensions. I want a 10" length scope weighing no more than 11ozs. with a practicable mag. of say 4-10 and with a 24mm objective...but even in 2015/2016 it seems an impossible mission . Far too much time spent on gimmicks like illuminated rets and huge objective lens with the clearest glass known to man and as a result scope tubes are getting larger and larger. Note the ridiculous relationship of the Swarovski scope to the Browning in the video....rant rant rant

As equipment continues to improve in quality naturally people will wish to explore the capabilities of that equipment, so I don't think it is a passing fad. Long range is another area of our sport with growing popularity. The use of illuminated reticles I feel is very useful in lowlight conditions and will often use this feature to clearly see the reticle against a darkened target. I'm sure when scopes themselves first came on the market they were seen as gimmicky! I would rather have an illuminated reticle over a few grams lighter scope. This scope is designed for long range shooting and serves the purpose very well, regards mark

Yeah fair enough mate. I am talking from a big game mountain hunters point of view and obviously you are in the long range varmint game where every gimmick is essential and never the twain shall meet. My fault for remarking in a domain I was just passing through. Nevertheless that scope does look top heavy on that rifle.
@260rips8 жыл бұрын
No worries mate, to be fair the set up I was using isn't the perfect match - I lightweight sporter with a long range scope! With the sunshade on it and oversized turrets it does look heavy and probably would be heavy for your kind of hunting but in comparison to the average scope its not actually as heavy as it looks 😉
