For mathematics PhD, if you can propose an original proof of a famous problem, which can be really short, you are actually contributing more than most math PhD. My math thesis has hundreds of pages, but i know what I did is just applying known methods to some new problems.

George E. Smith, who won the 2009 Nobel prize in physics for the invention of the CCD, wrote a phd thesis that were only 7 or 8 pages long. He simply rewrote an already published paper as a thesis and that was it.

I loved this video, Andy! 🎉😊I'm not sure if this is true but they say that in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, someone's PhD thesis was about 13 pages and this person won the Gold Medal 🏅

Tbf every mathematician I’ve met, the goals always seems to make the equation as simple and short as possible. Guess their ideal thesis would be as short as possible!

PhD dissertation of Samson Kutateladze ( a Soviet heat physicist and hydrodynamist) is extremely short. Cite from autobiography:“It was a somewhat extended article published in JETP (Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics) and devoted to a hydrodynamic model of heat transfer crises during boiling. The defense protocol turned out to be thicker than the dissertation itself, although the vote was unanimous…. I dare to think that at present it is one of the main ones in the theory of convective heat transfer during phase transitions. One of its important postulates is the analogy between the hydrodynamics of boiling and cold bubbling.” the mentioned article is only half a page however it is very fundamental.

The actual shortest PhD thesis EVER is titled: "How to Use ChatGPT to Abbreviate the Longest PhD Thesis EVER." It only has one reference and one example.

some thesis in my field (statistical genetics) are also very short, it's common to just use a paper or papers you published in your thesis. I guess this is similar to other fields.

It doesn't surprise these are all math thesis. These are all long for a math proof, but short for a journal article.

I need some advice. I would have had a 4.0 GPA, but I experienced unfair events which I had no control of. I will graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a Specialization in Law Enforcement. I would like to go to a prestigious University, but my GPA is 3.31. What are my options?
