I’m sorry to hear that man but my parents switched orthodontist and he really cares about my development I see him almost every other visit and he always talks about the progress and makes sure that I like where it’s going. Before I even started or my parents paid for it he told us there is a 50 percent chance of tooth extraction thankfully he was able to correct my face and no extractions where needed. Paying out of pocket for doctors is much better then insurance doctors

It depends on what braces you get and how messed up your teeth are. If they are crowded and the distance between both sides is below average, then braces will rearrange your teeth in the right position and give you the right space.

Had a horrible experience with braces, during covid as well. My bottom teeth used to be aligned with the top but now it's shifted to the left. Instead of a gap between teeth in the center, on my bottom row there is a tooth dead center. I also can't comfortably chew on my left side. My face looks more asymmetrical than it ever has before, if it even was before (i don't see any asymmetry in old photos). My family doesn't have lots of money, but now that I'm an older teen I'm job searching in hopes to save up enough money to correct my bite. If anyone has any recommendations of exercises or procedures I'm very grateful.

dude i have literal HOLES in my cheeks from braces. it’s legitimately at the point where i’m worrying it’s gonna go through my cheek completely. i’ve had them in for two years and it’s been gradual so minimal pain but a huge amount of discomfort and annoyance along with possible holes in my cheek by the end. they gave me stuff to put on the sides to cushion the braces but it just dissolved over night and left a disgusting taste in my mouth, and the putty stuff doesn’t even work either

This is why you double check if the person you're going to is ACTUALLY LICENSED and qualified to do Orthodontic therapies. If your dentist you love says they don't think the ortho you're going to is ethical, go to a different ortho. You can ALWAYS get a second opinion before you get ortho work. Not everyone needs it. The good ones DO explain what can happen and what WILL happen. Good and bad. And I've seen plenty of people also trashy good Drs for non compliance. So it's good to have all the info about specific cases before making a final judgement on who was in the wrong.

Looks like you went to the wrong dentist, here in the Netherlands my orthodontist did everything and when he was ready he called the head doctor and he was checking if everything was fine . And this happened every visit

Running a busy orthodontist practice requires auxiliary staff to do a lot of the wire changes/photos/placing attachments etc. Waiting lists would be way too long if the orthodontists did all the work and not to mention prices would soar because they can only see certain amount of patients in a day by themselves. Its stupid to think they are counting their money in the back. They are simply treatment planning for other patients or having dicussion with another family regarding treatment options.

I'm very worried about my teeth now, but I've already had extractions and braces for months now. I don't know if there was any other way to deal with it, but it may have been necessary for me because there was so much crowding one of my teeth even had to grow behind the incisor and canine (and was starting to sink and tilt sideways).. Still, I'm very nervous since my lower jaw was already (naturally) father back on my face and my chin goes inward a little..😢 I've had jaw and teeth problems since I was younger too, so my top bite covers my lower teeth and I have ringing in my ear.. not to mention I grind my teeth in my sleep sometimes😢😢😢 I have a tight jaw, and there's little room so the edge of my tongue is all chapped with teeth marks. There was even a point (before braces) where I couldn't even thread a small floss between my teeth because it was so tight.

i agree with this, i went to an orthodontist for something to do with my wisdom teeth obstructing molars. anyways this guy tells me i have an extra numeral lower incisive and it’s fucking up my bite so now i have to take it out and wear braces for THREE YEARS. he told me this at sixteen, way to ruin my youth ! and well i don’t brag a lot but i have a pretty great smile, he himself recognized it, so i don’t need a hollywood perfectly aligned situation… and the braces are super impractical for health reasons in my case but he didn’t want to hear any if it. even my dentist thought he was being extreme and asked him if he could just give me invisalign and he still refused. i mean what’s his deal ? oh and worst is he didn’t talk to me AT ALL about my wisdom teeth. straight up : oh your teeth aren’t a 100% perfect, you owe me money.

For me it had the opposite effect. I had a severe overbite and I couldn't breathe half the time and when my overbite got corrected I felt like I can breathe in 3D

I’ve been practicing for 27 years, ask me and I will tell you stuff that demonstrates usually greed and utter incompetence when it comes to dentistry, specifically my pet Peeve Is TMJ. Hint, if your dentist ever wants to make you a mouth guard without ever talking about your jaw history and then giving jaw excersizes find another dentist. Now with that being said, I’ve yet to meet a patient who’s previous dentist followed proper protocol, is it because they are incompetent, don’t care, or making a mouth guard is quick money? PS: I still believe most dentists are honest and care, just not sure if that will be my belief in another 10 years.
