Kris Bryant on the Rockies: It perplexed us all when the announcement was made and it's only gotten even more perplexing with time. You trade away Arenado and give the Cardinals $50 million only to do this? And this was with original projections with him in Colorado. It's been even worse than anyone could've ever imagined for him. The contract is now an albatross and Bryant is without a true position.
Which is why it's the signing that never made sense. At all. #krisbryant #mlb #coloradorockies

It always sucks to see a great player long past their prime. As a Tigers fan, I tried to watch one of Scherzer's Ranger games last post-season and needed to turn it off after an inning, because it was too sad. I mean, the Bryant signing never had anything to do with him fitting the team's window, or even them thinking he was an MVP still. Dick Monfort wanted a recognizable face of the franchise after the Arenado trade and Story's departure. And since the Rockies had been infatuated with KB ever since he was in college (they were devastated to miss out on him by a spot in the draft), and he was a free agent, they were not about to be denied and bid against themselves (as per usual).

Sox fan here, man I wish the Rockies had held on to Story. That contract was always going to be a disaster even without the terrible injury luck- it was a preemptive excuse to let Bogaerts walk, and Story's bat was always inflated by playing in Coors Field. The defense was nice, but 23 mil a year for six years for a defensive specialist (and an oft-injured one at that) hamstrung Bloom's spending capabilities for the last few years of his tenure. I know it's not your focus Tree but always love seeing the baseball vids from you. Excited for the weekly NFL vids to start up in two months.

Love seeing a baseball video from you, Tree. Keep 'em coming. Bobby Bonilla Day is tomorrow, though with the recent Mets resurgence to .500 and the third wild card spot, I'm not sure exactly how that video will work. You can't mock a team that is surprising everyone by not being shit. I guess a video about how surprisingly well they're playing would work, particularly if you jinx them by predicting continued good play. I agree that the Rockies should have never signed Bryant or moved him to the outfield. I remember being shocked and perplexed when they signed Bryant, same as everyone else. They also should have learned from the Atlanta Braves that you do not move a franchise-caliber third baseman to the outfield. People forget that the Braves moved Chipper Jones to left field in 2002 and 2003 to put Vinny Castilla at third. Chipper said after retirement that the move hurt his career because of the surprising amount of wear and tear it put on his legs, particularly a knee that had already had ACL surgery when he was a rookie. Despite that previous knee surgery, he had nine injury-free seasons to start his career. After that left field excursion, he missed time in all of the last nine seasons of his career. The fact that Chipper became a Hall of Famer is a minor miracle, putting up great numbers while playing through pain, being injected with God knows how many Cortisone shots, and having at least three more knee surgeries. Unlike Bryant, Chipper had been durable. Bryant was somewhat injury prone before having to patrol MLB's largest left field in its thinnest air. It was always going to be a disaster. The Rockies can only wish for those mediocre ZiPS Projections these days.

THE NEW YORK AND JETS play in NEW JERSEY ! THE ANGELS play somewhere else in CALIFORNIA every decade ! The NHL and NBA are soon to follow along those very lines in the near future. Team Loyalty is a marketing concept and a one way street . Analytics has overtaken personalities and abilities for determining players worth . And the WORTH !!?? Lets just say that Professional Sports has surpassed the PENTAGON when it comes to wasteful spending and lack of oversight.

The few times I've gone to see the Rockies since bringing him on... I've seen him play absolutely no times at all. I really feel for the guy. He deserves better.

I will say that, as a Rockies fan, I do think that long overdue rebuild has finally begun as of trade deadline 2023. We traded all we could and got some decent pitching prospect return and committed to a almost entirely rookie/sophomore lineup. Guys are getting reps at the plate that never would before and it looks like it's moving in the right direction. Bryant is our big dead weight. His production and health are so shot I have no idea how we get rid of him. McMahon is under control until 2027 and that may possibly be in our window so would it be worth sacrificing him just to get out of Bryant? In the meantime, I hope the Rockies do trade Elias Diaz for sure, and at least Cal Quantrill as well and take flyers on Brandon Rodgers.

What's even more hilarious is that the Rockies signed Kris Bryant to a bigger contract than what Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos signed with the Phillies combined that same offseason. As a Phillies fan, given how things have gone for all three players and both teams since that offseason, I am glad about how things have turned out so far.

The most frustrating thing about this deal is they signed a third baseman to play left field, then right field, then first base/DH. It reminds me of when they signed a shortstop turned center fielder to play first base (Ian Desmond). They haven't been able to properly construct a roster. The one thing I will say is that they technically did start rebuilding the year after the Bryant deal (which makes the deal make even less sense).Bill Schmidt is at least better at drafting than Bridich was, so the farm is improving, and they have pieces like Tovar, Jones, and Doyle (I'm a sad Rockies fan, at least let me have that)

As a Giants fan, I remember the Giants didn't bring back KB because they thought his swing wouldn't age well. Then, that article where KB openly admitted to not looking at the Rockies' Minor League prospects and taking the money killed any sympathy I had. The dude chose a payday over playing meaningful games. To each their own.
@MustacheDLuffy
@MustacheDLuffy 2 күн бұрын
You have to remember Scott Boras is his agent. He refused a $225 million deal with the cubs beforehand. Bryant was likely listening to what Boras wanted which was just more money since he wanted to make as much money off of Bryant as he could. Boras doesn’t care about fit, he cares about cash and Bryant didn’t try to think about what he might’ve wanted to do
@uncreative5766
@uncreative5766 2 күн бұрын
@@MustacheDLuffythen that just means that between listening to Boras and him not looking at the Rockies' prospect list, KB doesn't care about due diligence, either.

Allows Story to depart; that turned out to be the right thing. Arenado has been productive for the Cardinals; not in two Playoff appearances. But then the Monforts turn around and give a shit-ton to a guy who was fizzling in Frisco? Pretty sure Bryant knew what he was doing: sign for the most in an amenable city and rest on his laurels...literally.

I forget who wrote it, but after the Rockies made the ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT move of trading away Nolan Arenado, someone wrote something along the lines of “It’s official. The MLB is 29 teams and a clothing line.” Expecting the Rockies to make a good personnel decision is like expecting the military to be intelligent or the police to be accountable; it’s a nice thought, but it’ll never happen.

I went to a Padre game in 95 against the Rockies, sat on the third base field level line. Garralaga, Bichette, Walker and Castilla, those guys were all huge, I mean HUGE. Roids were obviously a big part of that organization. I always think back to that game when i see something about the Rockies.

Hey urinating tree, I hope you continue to make videos outside of Football. I enjoy your takes on alotta other sports. Including hockey, even that soccer video from years back. To me Kris Bryant is probably the biggest what IF in baseball. Imagine if he decided to continue to stay the course and improve his game, it stinks because even after that MVP season. He showed flashes… he coulda been one of the greats…

I'm from Colorado; I've probably been to 6 or 7 Rockies games the last two years and I haven't seen Bryant play one time. Granted, that isn't a ton of games but if this guy is supposed to be our franchise star, you'd think I'd have seen one highlight on the local news or seen him play one time. I only remember he even plays for us when I see his jersey at Dick's. I don't follow baseball that closely so I don't really know why he misses that much (maybe injuries?), but it's weird.
