I made some of these a few years ago for my own use around the studio and at shows. After seeing that there's a real need for devices like this, I decided to offer them for sale. I made my version very rugged to withstand travel and stage.

So I've been out of practice for quite some time and finally just decided to start playing again. And then I remember why I got so frustrated when I was last playing, which is why I mostly practiced drums and acoustic guitar. I forgot that when I had to move all my equipment to my basement a few years ago that I get a dreadful amount of hum, to the point I have to turn the noise suppressor up to max on my ME-50, but it just ruins the sound, and it doesn't get rid of the hum. I remember looking into this awhile back but just didn't have the time or motivation then. But anyhow, I hooked everything back up and, wham! I remember why I was frustrated... Everything worked better in different parts of the house, and before that at one of my previous apartments and two houses I rented. So I'm convinced there's something on the circuit that is causing the interference. My guitar doesn't even have to be plugged in for it to hum like crazy. Any suggestions on where I could start first to eliminate any causes before I get into this? And also, you surprised me when you said Northern Ohio, I live in Brunswick! lol

I'm up in Lorain County........ not all that far out. Lots of time the noise is coming from the earth ground. Try your amp momentarily with one of those unsafe 2 prong plugs and see if the hum dies down.

Quite possibly. You can try a 2 prong adapter on your amp... it will tell you instantly if it's a ground loop or not. It's not safe to leave it that way, but you'll know for certain then.

what resistors and diodes are inside there? i am making one of these for my evh 5150 iii 50watt amp
@thepiecesfit5049
@thepiecesfit5049 3 жыл бұрын
It seems like this device is based on the principle of placing some diodes on the ground wire inside the junction box rated at 10amp. What safety testing has been done at all if any? The concern is that a real short circuit would fry these diodes and potentially cause a hazard. The only way to get around this appears to be using a diode bridge that exceeds the ac mains fuse something like 35 ampers. Messing with the safety ground doesn't appear to be an issue until it is. Not an electrician just have concerns of plugging this in where high current is involved.
@DeadKoby
@DeadKoby 3 жыл бұрын
Your concerns are valid. The nationally produced factory product reads 6AMP MAX on its device. I make these more robust to easily handle 10. A typical guitar amp has a fuse at 0.5-2A, and even a power hog amp like an AC30 is under 5. If something were to short circuit in an amp, the Amp's fuse would quit well before the device would. If I remember right, even the mighty SVT Ampeg has a fuse at 7A. If you don't treat this device as a power strip.......your device's fuse should pop long before the hum eliminator sees full current. Plus, It can be fused as well. Thank you for your interest and concern.

Nice product…..question: will your device help eliminate 60Hz turntable ground loop hum? I feel the audio interconnects are inducing the hum, even though they’re routed away from all 120V AC cables. I’ve tried different high end cables, not much difference and they can get ridiculous in price. I got this hum on my 30 year old Pioneer Elite gear and that’s been replaced with brand new $McIntosh$ gear. Hum is still there on the turntable input while playing vinyl….

I have atrocious ground loop hum at my amp's input, when i use the dirty channel. It goes away completely when I use a wireless system. But when i use any cables with any guitar, doesn't matter if there are pedals in between or not, there is atrocious hum. it's not an amp issue because the noise goes away completely when i use a wireless pack. there is some kinda ground loop happening whenever i use physical cables of any kind and it's driving me crazy because i can't use wireless with everything i want to use. If I go wireless to my pedals, and plug the pedals into the amp with cables the hum returns. please help
