In this Robert Redford interview with James Lipton that was conducted by The Actors Studio, Redford discusses his role in the 1972 movie, Jeremiah Johnson, directed by Sydney Pollack. They discuss the quiet elegance of many scenes in this beautiful, yet violent film, about a mountain man, Jeremiah Johnson. This is one of Robert Redford's most endearing and enduring performances, a character who has to grow and revert to a form of savagery to master it.

Inside the Actors Studio is an American talk show that airs on Ovation. The series premiered in 1994 on Bravo, where it aired for 22 seasons, hosted by James Lipton from its premiere until 2018. It was recorded/filmed at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University's New York City campus. The program began as a televised craft seminar for students at the Actors Studio Drama School, originally a joint venture of the Actors Studio and New School University in 1994, with Paul Newman, a former Actors Studio president, as its first guest and soon became Bravo's flagship program. At first taped at the New School's Tishman Auditorium in Greenwich Village, New York City, it was shifted to its present location, Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University's New York City campus. The program is presented as a seminar to students of the Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University. (Wikipedia)

Redford is one of the very best non-verbal actors. He is so good at expressing what he feels through body language and facial expressions.

When I grew up in Montana as a kid it was very common for people to be "quiet". There wasn't a need to restate the obvious like there is today. Great, great movie.

@@brianritter7698 I've been retired in Arizona for years but miss that quiet dynamic up north. I've considered moving to SD several times. I might have to revisit that idea. Yeah, I agree this is one of my top favorite movies as well. I miss really good westerns.

"He says you fish poorly," great line! Bearclaw didn't bother him because he figured he'd be dead from starvation soon anyway.

I have always loved this movie. Redford was fantastic in this role. I never knew how involved Redford was in so many aspects of the movie, but I'm not surprised.

The talent isn’t there to make movies like this now. It’s all about “comedy” and sex. If they aren’t half naked or running their yap they can’t express anything in movies now. Record could have made an entire movie without saying a word and conveyed all the meaning in the world.

1:16 Robert Redford can act a great double-take. I have noticed that he does it in many of his films, if I get around to it I'll do a compilation one day. One I can think of off the top of my head is Spy Game, Redford gets called into the head office and he does a beautiful believable double take in one of the scenes set in there.

I believe they could make a dark souls kinda game with Jeremiah Johnsons story basically a survival game where Indian Americans come after you constantly and the more crow kill helping nearby towns the more intimidating your reputation is but can also take the Passive route only following the rules of the mountain

Do you know when he goes back to find his altar that they have erected for him… the man who he greets says he’s a settler in Jeremiah laughs. I always thought it was because he never heard the term but now I realize that no one can settle these lands.

Why would anyone butcher a woman and a child because a man violated a burial ground?
@marsewolfe3989
@marsewolfe3989 3 ай бұрын
To try and understand the why you must understand the native peoples, culture, how sacred a burial ground is and the impact of it, in their minds, desecrating it was for someone to enter it especially an army of white soldiers. Their own people probably did not enter it without a shamen or holy man.
