The Silicone Rubber Injection Molding Process Explained

This video explains the silicone rubber injection molding process from start to finish.
Firstly, the injection molding machine is almost the same as the machine used for plastic injection molding. Both presses use the same parts, but liquid silicone rubber injection molding pressure is far lower than that used for themoplastics. The injection unit also runs cool, which is opposite to plastic injection molding which needs to be kept very hot to keep the plastic moving.
We will look at how silicone is delivered in drums, and the percentage of colorants in it to make them the color you desire.
I explain how it is possible to use the same machinery for both silicone and plastic injection molding, but that they need to be configured and treated differently for the different materials.
Finally, we'll look at the numerous advantages of LSR tooling and its costs, too.

Some things i wanted to add. LSR material won't cure until mixed 1 part A and 1 part B. Meaning the only things needing water like the guy in the video said. Is the static mixer barrel and barrel tip. After mixing 1 part A and 1 part B the material if not kept cool will cure. While being kept cool it will inevitably cure also thanks to the chemical reaction that happens.

Can you have Date clock insert on the silicon mold ? there is a flash concern after a while.

Molding "inserts" is a common thing in LSR molding. The plant I work for we run many insert presses.

1. Can the molds be made of plastic or only metal? 2. Why is it necessary for the mold not to cure (why does the mold need to be heated?)? I would really appreciate some insight

since the mold is heated for silicone injection, it cannot be made from plastic. because heat cures and cooling maintains the fluidity of the lsr which is different from plastics
