There are no spoilers in this video! (Should have clarified that in the video itself.)
I'm experimenting with some low-key content, so let me know what you think of this. If this video does okay, I might start uploading casual stuff like this in between normal uploads, just because I'm busy, and not everything I want to say can fit into those.

Shoutout to that trolloc that talks to Rand in eye of the world before no trolloc ever speaks again for the entire series, with it later being implied that they have their own language raising questions of how that particular fellow learned the human language

My favorite thing, which I love your hilarious skit on, is the fact that the Seanchan, after being on a separate continent for a millenium, still speak the exact same language, but like Texans.

For me it's the mosquito-like insects bitemes. When I started reading I pronounced it "bye-team" in my head but then I read the index to discover that they're actually pronounced "bite-me."

To be fair, that's one of the more true to life names. Noseeums are a tiny biting midge that are so small, you don't see 'em when they bite you.

Huh, I pronounced it Bit-e-mites. Bite-mites sounds really dumb.

Not to mention the name of the last battle is a transparent copy of Armageddon, the names of the Trolloc tribes are copies of various mythological monsters, and quite a bit more. At first I thought Robert Jordan was just being lazy, but then I realized it was a thematic choice. The Wheel of Time is supposed to be the distant past (and possibly distant future), and so the similarities are kind of half-forgotten memories: The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past…

I absolutely love all the mythological references. Two separate myths that blend into Arthur, drawn from Al’Thor and Artur Hawkwing, with stuff like Nynaeve, Lady of the Lake. And Mat is literally just Odin. To the point where I have accidentally spoiled his eye loss because it just seems such an obvious thing to happen I keep thinking it was halfway through the series.

Wheel of Time started off kinda derivative from a lot of stuff but became its own thing so in the later books there are still some of those plot threads or whatever but nestled in the world of Wheel of Time and it becomes so funny there's some other stuff as well like that like the Mountains of Mist
@genericallyentertaining

The Mountains of Mist are great because in the Wheel of Time, I can believe that it's just Jordan ripping off Tolkien, but then in the Stormlight Archive, Sanderson gives us "The Misted Mountains," and now it almost feels like an intentional joke.

I don't know, sounds pretty different from Tolkien's Mount Doom if you ask me. I mean, Wheel Of Time has an H in theirs! Also just seeing you find it so funny has made it that I shall never be able to read 'Dhoom' again without laughing.

I feel that much like The Choronicles of Shanara, I feel the first book pulled a lot from LOTR, however unlike Shanara the first book is not a blow by blow retelling of Fellowship. I'll give Jordan that.

I've been trying to get into the Wheel of Time, cause I want to get into the later stuff that everyone says is good - but gosh, I just did not get invested in the first book. I stalled in the beginning of the second book, but I don't know. Wheel of Time fans, any suggestions, should I keep going if I'm not enjoying it thus far? Do you have any videos or some such I can use to catch up on stuff I didn't remember well from the first book?

the rest of the books are much different. if you think that the earlier books have potential then you will be well rewarded for finishing the series. Jordan masterfully executes on a lot of promises made in the earlier books.

I would strongly recommend continuing. For me I think the series really starts to kick off halfway through the second book, and it was impossible for me to not want to go through with the series after finishing the second. It's weird looking back on the first book for me because it's just so different from every other book in the series. Its scope is incredibly limited. The second book does a lot to expand upon this, then the fourth book once again expands everything. I'd recommend at least sticking through to the end of the second (it's on the shorter side of the books) and see if it hooks you.

I had the same trouble. First time I tried to read it I probably only got a few chapters in. Second time I got to book 4? I don't own the rest of the series, and I take a while to read these books for some reason (I can breeze through most books in a day or two). I think, if struggling, take your time with it. As someone else said, if Audiobooks work for you maybe try that?
