Hi Mark Strictly speaking, Mark, English has only one tense, the past tense. What is called the present tense is just the absence of the past tense, hence alternatively labeled the non-past tense. In the same vein, English has only two grammatical aspects: the continuous/progressive and the perfect. The perfect continuous is simply a combined aspect, i.e. continuous plus perfect. As for the "simple aspect," which is the topic of your talk, it is actually the absence of aspect. Your are absolutely right, Raquel. The perfective/imperfective (i.e. complete/incomplete) dichotomy is rarely mentioned when it comes to discussing English grammar. The perfect in English basically means anteriority.

Congratulations for your videos! I learn a lot with them! I have a question, simple aspect is not the same as perfective aspect? Because perfective aspect refers to completed/finished actions too. I need some clarification, please! :S

The earth revolves around the sun. Where's a complete action? The action is constant

"It usually rains in the fall" shouldn't be HABITUAL aspect ??? I have read that simple aspect refers simple to an event without showing how this event occurs in time. Same with "smoke" ... "John smokes" : simple aspect "John is a smoker" : habitual aspect
