This is a playthrough of the 1991 Konami game "The Simpsons", complete with cutscenes and everything, played with the character Bart Simpson. Created using MAME 0.149.

Konami had to deal with a show in its infancy and a language barrier, and STILL packed in a ton of awesome humor and references. Still the best Simpsons game in my book.

I used to love hearing this and TMNT as I walked in to any arcade back in the 90s. I didn't play it much but I was just so fascinated by hearing the speech and music. Compared to what we could get on home consoles at the time this was something entirely new and amazing!

Jack Tramiel (Commodore and Atari) stayed out of the arcade industry. So Arcade hardware makers actually used decent hardware. Although using better hardware made it more expensive, the profit margins were still very good. Once he retired, and Hiroshi Yamauchi started to look towards retirement you started to see consoles that actually had power.

We used to have this in a local restaurant in my town, it got replaced by a Galaga arcade cabinet. I was so pissed when I found that out.

I remember first playing this in an arcade at a casino while on vacation as a kid, right when it came out, playing Bart. I beat it, going through many quarters, but had severe carpel tunnel for 30-60 minutes afterward. Sometime after I came home, the game appeared in my hometown arcade for the first time, and immediately beat it first try, Tons of people were watching me. Good game and good times! :)

One of the last great arcade games I remember playing before they died out. Man that shit was fun, I remember my best friend and I were the first to beat Double Dragon 2 at the arcade by our house, it was nuts people surrounding us screaming and cheering. What an awesome atmosphere arcades created

Bart's attack is the fastest between the Simpsons, also the easiest to make a combo . Homer's lack range but is the most powerful.

Early art of Bart had his shirt blue, and Fox had merchandise ready before everything was finalized. That's why his shirt is blue in this game. Oddly enough the shirt's orange in the opening though, but then turns blue for his description.

I always used to play this by myself. I remember one time out of nowhere 3 other kids joined and we played as 4. Its been over 20 years and I still remember I had so much fun.

Me and my friend whipped this game's ass back in the mid 90s. I was Bart and he was Homer. We were in Butlins in Wales. Cost us a small fortune but we kicked its ASS!

My only complaint about this game, that's the worst point system ever, 1 pt. for each kill (including bosses) WTF? But still such a fun game, I'd even go so far as to say it's better than any of the home console games we got. My greatest memory: so often you'd be playing a 1 player game, another random kid you never met sees you're getting you're ass kicked pops a quarter in and bails you out,

Dude..u should try the japan version because of u can get more points like -u have extented hp on the jp version. If u beat a boss with full hp u get full points but with extend hp u get more points..

So this game is the source material for the Bart Simpson in Sonic Mania mod. Also, if Maggie was a playable character she would definitely have the most health because she keeps on tripping over and doesn't even cry or get a tiny scratch.

I remember playing this when I was 8,and I loved playing Bart.Before that,I tried to play as 4 of the Simpsons at the same time and I didn’t even stand a chance.Only playing as Bart I was so far in the game,but I don’t remember which level I’m on.

Hello, nice video. I played this arcade game in a real arcade store. I even saw one time one arcade modded or hacked. Very cool and crazy. You could find much more weapons than the original game and even the enemies were modded turning the game very easy. Shame no one have footage cause in that time (1992 I guess) theres no one with cameras or phones with cameras. I even saw modded/hacked arcade machines with street fighter.

This is my favorite game back in the day and I have beaten it countless times. I can go all the way without LOSING a life. The best trick to beating this game is the special attack, where in Bart's case, a skateboard swing. That will kill everyone on one hit except the bosses.

they had this game at a local pizza shop we went to after baseball games, memories of 20 kids crowded around this machine watching each other play while the adults got drunk and ate pizza haha.... no idea this game was from 1991, we were playing it around 2000-2002 surprised it was 10 years old even at that time

honestly they should've waited a few years later, so that the game's story could be based from Rosebud's. it makes a lot more sense for smithers to kidnap maggie, who refused to let go of burns' bear, and for the populace of springfield to be against the simpsons due to no beer and no tv.

And also that news anchor isn't even Kent Brockman, I agree. Although in that case I'm sure all of the Life in Hell references would be replaced with Simpsons references, I assume they're in the game because there was so little Simpsons content at the time, this game was released just before season 2, and I doubt they coordinated with the writers to get early season 2 references in the already completed episodes or at least animatics of episodes. So they literally just had SEASON 1 to work with, which has a lot less episodes than all the other seasons. The only reason why they got a game so early I would guess is that people were already familiar with them from Tracy Ullman, and they were such a huge hit when the first season aired, It's my favorite show of all time!

The Mr. Burns fight is ridiculously long and difficult. They definitely made sure they took as much of your money as possible before you completed the game A very big last ditch effort for all of the tokens you had in your pocket

Often wondered if there's a difference between the characters? More damage, speed, range? Marge seems to have the most well-rounded attack range vs speed.
