My favorite joke cut short: guy dies and goes to heaven. St Pete is there to give him the tour. There are rooms full of various denominations all joyful and content. Down one dark corridor the man sees a room where all inside are sitting quietly but St Pete draws him away with a 'shush' gesture. The man asks" who are they"? St Pete replies "those are the Baptists, they think they are the only ones here".

I think it was less her "being okay" and more her "resigning herself". If you notice she never asked about Lisa, or Maggie, now that I think about it... Anyhow, Lisa had been a Buddhist for like 10 seasons already, so that "joke" had already run it's course, but, if you remember, when Lisa became a Buddhist Marge tried to bribe her, deny her new beliefs and even dressed Milhouse and Ralph as a gift-wrapped pony to trick her to renounce her new beliefs because "buddhists don't celebrate Christmas". Marge is actually a very selfish and toxic mother, at least Homer has his stupidity and the crayon in his brain to blame for his lapses, though he can be an incredible dad whenever he actually acts like one instead of a negative example. Marge though? I can't, for the life of me, think of an episode where she actually learns something, with the possible exception of the whole Evolution debacle.

that’s just how protestants and catholics are about each other. there’s an old joke about a former catholic confessing rape, torture and even murder to a priest but only when he says he briefly became protestant is the priest horrified

I mean this might be over thinking it. 1.) Buddhists can be Christian as Buddism is not a theistic faith. THere are many branches of Buddhism that rely on mentors or guiding figures who lived exemplary lives. THere could be an argument that a Messiah or the Son of God and his love for humanity spares his followers. Its very common to worship Kanon or the Amida Buddha... why not Jesus. Its just who Buddhism deals with stuff by adapting it to new cultures. 2.)Most buddhists who do believe in hell don't worry about it. It would be natural to suffer and Buddhism is the only path out of any suffering. Just like how Christians are supposed to believe that the Love of God and acceptance of Jesus might be all you need to escape hell. So it doesn't make sense. Buddhists believe in a timescale of billions of years, while christians insist that lifetime is all you need. THe whole thing about heaven and the pearly gates and stuff is added. And even later the stuff about the end of the world and purgatory. THe Original Buddha had a lifetime when he went to hell for being rude and cruel and throwing a bowl of oatmeal away because he was angry at his friend. But hundreds of centuries later was able to reincarnate to a dog. and eventually he became a king again. So hell is inconsequential to a Buddhist. Let alone a really lame versionof Protestant heaven XD 2.) Marge knows she can't change Lisa's religion. So she's not responsible for her, while Bart and Homer are too reckless and so she's responsible for them. Im sure secretly she trusts Lisa... Bart is her baby.

@jostockton How can Catholics contradict the teachings of Jesus, if you only know the teachings of Jesus cause Catholics managed to preserve it for 4 centuries under persecution + 9 centuries under Islamic expansion conquest, to arrive it intact for the Protestant revolution, and Martin Luther wanted to remove 5 books of the New Testament, but other Protestants convinced him to accept the Catholic canon of the New Testament.
@wms7220 күн бұрын
@@jostockton.The Bible NEVER says and Jesus NEVER said "ALL true instruction to lead to eternal life is to be found in Holy Scripture." Where does the Bible say this? DIVINE TRADITION IS THE ORAL WORD OF GOD JESUS TAUGHT HIS APOSTLES. IT'S NOT LESS THAN THE BIBLE. BOTH MAKE UP THE "DEPOSIT OF FAITH." PROTESTANTS THREW AWAY JESUS'S ORAL DIVINE TRADITION SO THEY *DO NOT HAVE THE FULL GOSPEL* Deuteronomy 4:2 says: "You shall not add to the word of God, ... nor take away from it. " Protestants didn't just throw away Divine oral Tradition but also threw 7 books out of their Bibles. Matthew 4:4 says, "Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." Protestants don't have EVERY WORD, only PART of the written Word, none of the Oral Word. Remember, guys, we're NOT Jews. The Holy Spirit guides the Church hierarchy, not the rabbis. Jesus and His Apostles used and quoted the Septuagint Bible. Protestants use the rabbis' shorter Masoretic text that DID NOT EXIST until almost 100 years AFTER Jesus ascended into Heaven. Remember what Jesus said *TO HIS APOSTLES* in John 16:12,13: "I HAVE MANY MORE THINGS TO SAY TO YOU, BUT YOU CANNOT BEAR THEM NOW. BUT WHEN HE, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH...." Truth NOT written in the Bible. The Catholic Church guards Jesus's oral teaching -- called, not tradition of men, but *Divine Tradition* -- which Jesus taught His Apostles, and which the Bible tells us to keep, in 2Thessalonians2:15, 1Corinthians11:2, 2Timothy1:13, 2Timothy2:2 and Titus1:9. Protestants threw away Jesus's oral teaching, violating: Deuteronomy 4:2, "You shall not add to the word.of God ... nor take away from it," Psalm 118:160 says, "The *SUM* of Thy Word is Truth" and Matthew 4:4 "Man does not live by bread alone but by *every word* that comes from the mouth of God. Oral Word of God (Divine Tradition) + Written Word of God (Holy Scripture) = Full Gospel Truth Holy DIVINE Traditions guarded by the Catholic Church are: the 7 Sacraments, especially the various rituals of Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the correct interpretation of Scripture, especially teachings on Mary's sinlessness, on the intecession of the saints and on Purgatory, use of holy water, relics, blessings, and other sacramentals. These make up the Full Gospel. Only the Catholic Church HAS the Full Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus may say to protestants who DENY His oral Word of God, "Depart from Me. I never knew you."

Protestant here, Jesus literally used wedding banquets, feasts, and parties to illustrate heaven. The kind with lots of food and wine and dancing. Like a lot. It was kind of his go-to explanation. When you think heaven, DO NOT think that protestant heaven in the video, Jesus's descriptions are somewhere between Mexican quinceñera and Italian wedding on the party celebration spectrum.
@bompkin150610 ай бұрын
Not the same kind of dancing as in todays culture, and certainly not the type of party to encourage drunkenness.

This is not a reflection on the actual conceptions of Heaven in Christianity. This is about cultural differences between Catholics & Protestants. Protestants like Scandinavians, English, Dutch, Americans, Canadians etc. have more of a tradition of austerity and blandness, more strict social norms, in most radical cases things like banning Christmas by the puritans or the temprance movement & prohibition. While Catholics like Latin Americans, Italians, Poles, Irish, Spanish etc. have a more of tradition of flamboyantness, feasts and drinking, more leisure in norms, in most radical cases leading to problems like more wide spread social alcoholism, or disastrous romanticism. I think it is related to religious differences, because many Protestants use grape juice while Catholics use actual wine during liturgy, the Protestant churches & celebrations are more austere while Catholic ones are more flamboyant etc. And Catholic Church was usually more leniant in relation to parties and drinking than most Protestant churches, especially those coming from calvinism.
