This video shows you how you can build open side basements and basements with windows. I found out basement windows were also covered (a bit more limited) in this video by someone before: • The Sims 4: using roof...
Enjoy, hope you have fun building!

I wish they would just make semi-basements a thing :( Nonetheless I really appreciate this video, so helpful and a smart workaround!

Brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing. One possible solution for the roof clipping is to raise the platform of the whole floor. That might put it above the roof level so you don't see it. I discovered a similar hack last night. You can put a roof over a ladder or staircase and the stairs will still work. A half-gable roof with a big curve in it makes an awesome entrance for a storm shelter, bunker, or secret clubhouse. The roof has to be 3 tiles wide for the stairs to go in, and you have to fiddle with the shape of it to get enough room over the stairs. But you can put a door in the face of the roof just like you can a window and the sims will use it.

I wanted to build a home with a basement and didn't want it to be without windows because that would be horrible in real life. Your build looks so fantastic that I expected there to be a straight forward workaround... Again, your build is amazing, but if anyone from the Sims happens to read this FIX THIS!

Very helpful and informative! I wonder if a similar technique with the walls/basements and terrain tools can be used to create tiered landscaping.

What do you mean with "tiered landscaping"? Cause you CAN just use foundation or platforms to do this if it is what I think it is :) (and foundation also allows terrain to be flush with the wall, it just does not allow for window placement, which is important for the basement I wanted)

@@DeanXeL-Heleen It's kind of like landscaping where the terrain is equal level on both sides with plants/bushes on it, usually resembling a low pyramid. I'll add it on to my test build and upload it a bit later. I was just wondering if there's an easier way to go about it than just using the terrain tool and floor tiles to prevent desired terrain from being manipulated.

@@mikeo.5926 hmm I don't think so. Using floor tiles to stick the height of a certain part is already a very smart and time saving move! I personally would do it like this: 1) build slim foundation strips lifted to the desired height. 2) use the terrain tool 'adjust to specific height to adjust the terrain according to the foundation on one side of the foundation (use low spread so you don't take the part on the other side too). Repeat for all. 3) remove foundation for slopes or use grass tiles to have a nice finishing or the wall. Adjust at will. :)

with the platform clipping problem- could you place a platform the size of the entire room to cover the roof, and then another platform on top of it where you wanted to put the platform originally? that might mess up door heights, but i feel like there’s a workaround for that.

That works, yes, I did this on one of my builds. You'd still need a sufficiently low clipping roof for it not to look weird and be a huge hassle though ;)
