What's interesting to me is that my mom grew up in the US in the 60s and also calls the shoes thongs. So apparently the US changed at some point but idk when!

I once listened to a surprisingly interesting radio documentary about the history of the corridor. Before corridors rooms just ran off each other, so you'd have more public rooms where you could entertain guests and then they'd get more and more private towards bedrooms (this is mainly for rich people's houses, most people might just have one or two rooms). Then they started adding passages that servants could use to go between rooms without disturbing people in the other rooms. These servants were called corridors, from the Latin "correre" meaning "to run", like how the film industry has runners to get people things. So corridors were originally people! Eventually the name corridor moved to the passageway itself

My in-laws home in New York City has a staircase that ends on a very small landing. That landing has 3 doors. But the uptairs has 5 rooms. A bedroom connects to a bathroom then 2 other bedrooms & there middle door on the landing is a walk in powder room. Before they bought that house their apartment had 4 "rooms". The kitchen, dinning, living were all a room. The hallway was literally so wide & weird it was a bedroom & branching off that was the bathroom & actual bedroom. So to get to the toilet or main bedroom you had to walk past 2 sleeping children. So tippy toes time! Or else. Hallways are sometimes built so weirdly.

My family owned a Victorian farmhouse. The kitchen was in the basement. The stairs leading to the basement were ONLY accessable from the storm doors outside. It was renovated in the 1960s to move the kitchen to the upstairs back porch. But the basement kitchen was still there. The only way to get food from the basement to the dinning & upstairs floor was a dumbwaiter (hand pulled elevator) in a wall pocket. That dumbwaiter still existed when we bought the house. Wrapped AROUND that dumbwaiter was a staircase that walked up from the basement PAST the 1st floor to the 2nd floor, had a sliding door that looked like a wood panel for access & then continued into the attic which was a fully open furnished living space complete with a small stove, toilet, bathtub & the dumbwaiter ended all the way up there in the attic. It was an amazing house to live in but also so drafty & dangerous. My little sister would hide in the dumbwaiter shaft even though she was explicitly told not to. We even put locks on the doors but she just kept doing it. I don't know how she is alive today.

The sound of your voice is Bowser’s lullaby and I think that’s so sweet. Dogs are movement oriented so they usually sleep lightly if you’re on the move, but I bet the reason Bowser sleeps so well when you’re recording is in part because he knows you’ll be in one place for a bit, so it’s a perfect chance to get some deep sleep. My dog used to sleep in the room next to where I work because of my typing on the keyboard, but now he sleeps on the futon in my office because that’s where I’m going to be for a majority of the day and it’s his chance to get some deep sleep. Love Bowser’s snores. Never a distraction from the video.

Please don't kick Bowser out, we love his snoring! It's genuinely so adorable and calming, at least to me 😅 I love the style of penthouses you do with blending them into the existing building, you've done it so well every time, and I agree that this one is the best! I do think that there a lot of penthouses irl that don't blend in like this though - I've seen a lot of New York brownstones that have penthouse additions, some quite modern which is a cool juxtaposition of styles. I think the key with doing a different style / not blended in is to make it's footprint a fair bit smaller than the outer size of the building below it, so it's less visible or not visible at all from the street below. This also then gives you less vacuous interior space with no windows to deal with, and more balcony space around the outside for entertaining space, etc. Idk, just an observation and maybe something to try next time you do penthouse renos, though you've done all the ones we have now anyway 😅 I'm definitely keen for more apartments though! At least until the family homes that inevitably come with the release of the new EP soon 🥰

I never understood having multiple lounge rooms until I moved to Hawaii. We have an open plan living room/kitchen area and that's where our main lounge room is, but even though we have AC, it gets SO HOT in that part of the house in the mornings. We have a secondary lounge room on the other end of the house and at first, we weren't sure what to do with it and I didn't expect we'd spend much time there, but it's so nice to be able to sit in there in the mornings when it's cooler on that side of the house and then move to the main lounge room later in the day as the sun moves. Now I understand why old historic homes had so many different lounge rooms and dining rooms -- so they could move to cooler or warmer parts of the house throughout the day! Also I know I could probably fix all of this with blackout curtains, but they make it dark and depressing inside so I don't want them!

With dogs I think it's because they know when you're "settled", so they'll fall asleep when they know you're doing something that means you won't be moving for a while. For you since you make KZfaq videos it's when you're speaking a lot, for me it's when I'm at my desk or if I turn on the game

I was watching someone who is really big on Feng Shui and they were talking about lounge rooms/living rooms. They mentioned when you have a rug, everything should be touching the rug to feel “included” in the room. I didn’t really think much of that until I saw the couch in the main TV/lounge area. It felt “left out” because it wasn’t connected to the rug at all. Sort of like it shouldn’t be included if that makes sense. Just wanted to share!!

I complain about that all the time- the fire places are never long enough for the bigger tv's!! That's why I always use the one from snowy escape because it fits with the big tv's, but I also size down the city living tv. We need more tv's!! and also more fireplace options. I'd like a free standing one, or more of the modern vibes

Beautiful build. The feng shui rules I follow in my builds is to always have the bed facing the door (I do this irl), no mirror in front of the bed (also irl), no beds under a window, kitchen cooker and sink should never be facing each other directly, the desk facing the door (as you have done), lots of natural light and clear spaces to create a good energy flow and the colours pink and yellow are supposed to bring positive energy into your home. I am not a feng shui expert, but accroding to my friend who is, I tend to naturally implement feng shui. According to her, two of the basic concepts of feng shui are flow of energy and balance. Of course, it gets a lot more detailed if you really research it (like how energy flows in different rooms for different purposes and so many other things). --- I know this probably isn't helpful at all, but it's hopefully interesting at least.

The 'wall bars' are super-common here in Central Europe. They are in every school - even primary schools. They are used quite often for various things. You can use them to help you stretch your legs, working out (mostly hanging by your arms and pulling your legs up). With smaller children they are often used just as a ladder, as in the kids climb up and down (they get a bit used to height and if repeated it's also a sort of a workout). We would often use them when doing sit-ups too, cause we'd put our feet under the first bar to 'keep them in place'. And Bowsie was very cute today! 🌟

Multiple lounge rooms discussion: SO.. I lived in a medium income home growing up. It was that 1950's style of building which has a lot chunky corridors which you turn into rooms. Coincidentally this meant my house had 3 lounge rooms. Each room had fairly distinct purpose because we tried to keep each one for a unique activity. The downstairs lounge had all our instruments and a crabby TV for movie nights, the upstairs lounge was a tad more formal and had the nice TV, and the final lounge which we called the "sunroom" was a kind of observatory space because it was really just a deck that was closed in with windows. This was the room we would go to for a chat and tea or a private space to chill. So yeah its quite funny how useful the spaces become. Anyone had something similar?

I think stuff like bowling isn't really what's weird about that whole thing. We've had bowling in the Sims 2 and I believe also in the Sims 3 and EA rarely comes up with something new. What is weird about it in the Sims 4 is that they sell it as one exclusive pack instead of throwing it in with another expansion pack (like it should be imo). So yeah the only weird thing here is greed unfortunately, especially when you think about the fact that in older generations we just got that stuff included with other things without having to pay more for the "typical Sims basics"...

We used to uninstall the packs we didn't need for what game we were playing. People talk about how the Sims 2 and 3 have things Sims 4 doesn't but you don't get stuck because 2 sims are trying to move through the same space. Another thing I remember is that sims you were trying to befriend or romance would shut you down if you used the same social too often and there was no cloud gazing, pics together or social bunny to help you. Your options for conversation were limited. Sims 1 and 2 never had colors that matched. Using 2 pinks, or other colors, in the same space or outfits was ghastly. CAS was much more limited in options to say the least. Many horrific options for faces so my Sims tended to look more alike than in Sims 4. You couldn't recreate your house with accuracy because the sims couldn't function move around or use objects. I did love many things about Sims 1, 2, and 3 but I love Sims 4, bugs and all. Taking a break and playing a different game, Sims Medieval was one of my favorites, is fun but you could take a break from Sims entirely. That wouldn't work for all who rely on the game for their income 😂. That's where imagination comes in so thanks to the fan’s suggestions and the makers of the challenges 👍

Completely off topic to the build... but those doggo snores are so soothing to me. I personally love it when my doggo snores, it means she's content, happy, and tired enough to just crash. It always makes me really happy.

Thanks for trying to and looking into the feng shui idea. I tend to watch dear modern for inspiration with that but i get what you mean about the confusion, the only rule i mainly follow is bed in front of door is bad >

Suggestions: 1. Next apartment Alto Apartments (both: Uninhabited first then inhabited one later on) 2. I suggested this to James, but I figured I would suggest it to you too. Google: the weirdest house floor plans, the oddest shaped house floor plans, the hexagon shaped house floor plans, the circular shaped house floor plans, the octagon shaped house floor plans, weird architecture Find some you want to recreate in The Sims, and do shell challenges with them, community lot or a house build.

I believe the house you’re talking about, the Victoria secret model one, is Romee Strijd’s huis in the Netherlands, for anyone who is curious. I would agree it wasn’t necessarily very family friendly looking, but to each their own I guess! Love the vid 💚

I think Deli even did her takeover episode in this lot way back when she did an episode of his supersim? It's been a while since I watched so I might be wrong about that though.

Always loved a hallway, I like open plan kitchen/dining rooms but love a separate living room and office. I often wonder about warmth and cooking smells when it's all completely open.
