i was feeling very dramatic with my title today lmao

My roommate is a game dev and said it's actually attainable to release free dlc and still profit with the game. But we are so used with EA trying to get more than 100% profit margin just for the sake of being greedy, made us create this vision of everything needing to be charged and especially super expensive in order for it to work.

Honestly quite excited for this, however I find it quite frustrating how people compare other lifestyle and building games to the sims4. If every game would look like the sims4 it would be just duplicates and I’m glad Paralives is making their own game with the emotion and vibe system!

Paralive is going to be fully openworld like The Sims 3 is. The reason they only showed one angle of the street is because this is only a testing setup and they have not yet started working on the town world. It will be the last major aspect they will be working on. At the moment they are focusing on live mode and it's going to stay that way for (probably) the majority of the year until they move on to working on the town.

So, I honestly feel the same way about Paralives, I think it will be an awesome life simulation game. The personality point system here is much more sophisticated than Sims 2. The social bar is really no different than in sims except that its formalized in that you can actually see how long you have to talk to them to get other options, in the sims you don't get all options right away (or in earlier games than 4 anyway) the sims have to talk for a while and then get more options, this just gives you a visual bar for that time. The crawl option is likely child related. This game looks very fleshed out and thoughtfully made in every aspect. From the information released over the last few years I wasn't sure I would like the overall aesthetic, but it is beautiful. I'm kinda wondering why you didn't look into Life By You in the same way when its going to be released for early access sooner?

I overall love the direction that paralives is going. Even though there is no occults right now, I feel like i would enjoy this game quite a bit. As for monetization, Disney owns dreamlight valley, they have people to answer to, investors and shareholders to payback, we have also seen big corporations liking to take huge bonuses for themselves. A better comparison would be no man sky or terraria. No man sky has been having large expansion for years now and when i checked they are a small team just a bit bigger then paralives. Terraria is also indie with a similar sized team and they survive off of merch. Last i checked their merch store, they started selling comics of the game. Paralives can survive with just the sales of the game, merch, and patreon (hoping they keep it up, i wanna see the progress of the big updates). Just to be clear, i do understand the concern, I just hope this peoples some people at ease and maybe give people more confidence.

Paralives has a more detailed overview on some of the stuff in the trailer (relationships, personalities, needs and wants, interactions with multiple parafolk, and jobs) linked in the newest public patreon post. I think the information is really interesting! Active jobs aren't planned as far as I know from that.

Disney Dreamlight Valley had a lot more than enough funds for free to play but of course gameloft has to ruin something good. The paralives team said that they already have a lot of supporters on patreon and over a milion people wisisted the game so they have more than 1 million dollars guaranteed which means they will have enough for the game and the employees. So looking foward to this and i ve been craving for a change of scenery for so long i m just sick from switching between them sims games and i can t wait for life by you

One of my favorite things about Paralives so far is the animation style. There's something so cozy about it. I have limited Sims 2 play experience as I started playing at 13 with Sims 3 but the aspects they appear to be inspired by from Sims 2 are my favorites. I love the percentages on certain interactions because in any Sims game, sometimes it truly feels like it makes zero sense why an interaction failed when a conversation was going well and I always forget there's an algorithm determining the likelihood of success. It's nice to see the actual numbers behind it. I'm very impressed with the furniture. It's more House Flipper/New Horizons hybrid, some extremely modern and realistic and some eclectic. I love the perks upgrading personality. I hope they add more skills and that Jack of All Trades helps you learn all skills faster because you're good at everything.

I think a way to change your perspective on the free expansions thing is to think about how Stardew valley makes money because Stardew valley is a one time payment and then all their free updates are big expansion basically so technically paralives are what Stardew valley and Stardew Valley are making a lot of money

I'm a family player. So, I'm more curious about that aspect. The relationship bit, I thought was super cute and it had me thinking about how they'll tackle marriages, babies, toddlers etc. Essentially, children and school. I'm not super invested in Paralives but I think it's a nice concept that I'd be down to try once it's released. Build mode could definitely use more love and care but for the most part, the items look so good. So, so good. I like what was shown so far. I did notice some clipping between characters, also. Carl was shown a bit early on, walking down the street and there was a child behind him whose leg seemed to have gotten intertwined with his own lol The game has made a lot of progress. Can't wait to see where it's at by 2025.

If they use the Windows style "Draw rectangle to select" you probably can hold down CTRL and single click on specific Paras to join a group instead. They seem to follow traditional Windows controls.

I think this is a good game on its own. To take down the sims? No, I think it’ll be good as its own. Not put up against the sims.

I Love that they start off living in boxes. Very realistic when you move in. I wonder how it works with a multiple person household.

I heard that there was only 12 people working on this game. I have a feeling that free dlcs wont be a problem and they'll just split the payments made on the game equally and continue to work on it without having to hire a ton of people and work other jobs because they'll still be making money.

the only thing i'm worried about is the together bar. it might be hard to progress relationships, and as far as i know, the together bar is the only thing that boosts relationships significantly. you'd also have to be aware of whose in your group and who you want to talk to specifically for it to go up and unlock a card. it doesn't seem like you have a different together bar for each person you talk to either, i just wish building relationships was a bit more easier throughout gameplay. I loveee the card system but you only receive it from the together bar after each hour, making gameplay lengthy and drawn out.

On the subject of making money consistently from games past release: there are other ways to fund continued development without making dlc, but dlc is the easiest way. Paralives’ team will likely continue utilize patreon to allow new content early access to patrons for a fee, allowing users to test features and give feedback too. Additionally, merch and brand partnerships may eventually come into play as well! It is possible, lol, just not as easy as slapping a price tag on every feature.

Honestly, as much as we all like to sh*t on The Sims and complain about literally anything... it's not going anywhere and it will remain the most played sim game for the foreseeable future. Competition is good but all the new games don't have what makes The Sims still so popular today - everyone's childhood memories playing TS, 2 or 3 😀

There is no way those DLCs are staying free. The Sims has its issues but will never be replaced. Paralives has good potential to be a good life Sim but for most it won’t replace the Sims. Yes EA sucks but they have no serious competition. Life By You is janky af and Inzoi is super uncanny valley with no personality atm at least, the game is very dreary looking too.

It's a small thing but I really love how the ones are said in the first person rather than the third person. It's like they're telling us what they want directly or we can see into their heads. It's cute.

I’ve been playing Sims my WHOLE life and I’m so sad about all the movement away from the old sim games, but stoked about these new frontiers. I just hope this doesn’t end up being like Cities Skylines or Planet Coaster where the games are good but don’t quite have the charm of the originals. It’s bittersweet. I’m so excited for Paralives though!

I love how there seems to be options for the next shifts at work to do more that increases your pay/position, increases your job skills and also ‘listen to music whilst working’ doesn’t improve your job but gives a musical person more joy in their hobby. Like real life!

I'm with Sasha about being sceptical of the forever free DLC thing. I do think that it will either mean they go back on it or that the game won't be sustainable long term. It feels very different from Sims, so I doubt it will replace it.

Watching the Paralives early gameplay trailer makes me wanna rip my heart out of my chest, bite it and shake it around like a dog toy. Very high levels of aggressive affection.

Sims 4 being over is late info, been over for most folks who played Sims 3, Sims 2, or even Sims Mideval.....we told old for the BS EA has become and got off that Sim 4 dead-end train a looooong time ago.

I've watched a lot of other KZfaq SImmers in the last few days, since the release of their video, and your the first one to mention noticing it said Crawl with walk and run, I do think it has to do with Toddlers, but, I wonder why it's included with adults too, can they also crawl if you want them to? That would be funny for a weird Para, lol! I know they said it's a open world, so I think, that maybe they are just showing the street that way just for now, because that's the area the Para was going to be doing stuff in, I mean I would think it wouldn't be that way all the time, like every time we go to town. I do wish you would do some with Life By You as well, I know they did push the early access from March 5th to June 4th recently, but I do believe without a doubt it will be released then or at least before Paralives does! And some of their most recent videos with lots of game play, are really fun to watch too! I'm very excited for both these games, and do intend to buy both to play, because they are similar, since they are of the same genre, but also very different, which will FINALLY give us lovers of life sim games, that is games more like The SIms, with people and not just us doing things like fixing up a house or something, like some have put games like House Flipper in the same genre as Life Sims, but, I don't see those as that, since there are no people/characters to create and play with, just doing things that we might do in real life. So more like just Simulations, then Life Simulations, I hope that makes sense, lol! Oh and I meant to say they will give us more Sim like games to play for a change, instead of just one.

Disney is not an indie company, ergo, their interests are not their employees or customers, but their shareholders and corporate staff. Now, if you want to talk about indie companies (or began indie), having great success, and still offer free updates (never paying for additional dlc), here are just a few: Terraria, Geometry Dash, Hollow Knight, osu! (which is also free to play, and merely offer "Supporter" as any paid content, which does not prohibit gameplay), and the behemoth of Minecraft (even though, being bought out by Microsoft). Given that Paralives is a Life Simulator (sandbox game), it does have the potential to become as successful (or even more), as Minecraft. Now, they could take the route Minecraft took, as well, adding in spinoff games, while continuing to update their main game. Minecraft's sales continue to rise, as well as sales for merchandise continue to allow its (evergrowing staff) to earn a decent living.

16:35 I AGREE. I'm tired of the rabbit holes. The Sims is lifeless because of that and its immersion breaking. All life sims must have every building be functional! That is the new standard that must be set. Life By You is already doing that in their open world and i hope Paralives does the same in their town.

I wouldn't mind if like maybe minor updates were free where like basically playability bugs and things like that get fixed for free but say the big major expansions maybe go for like a couple of bucks like no more than like 5 to 10 dollars because when you start getting into like the 20 to $40 range in expansions when it comes to the Sims people get pissed because they're like now EA is being greedy! So I don't mind if like maybe if they do like a big major update that maybe could cost a few dollars here and there just to help with the upkeep of the game and the upkeep of the company because yeah that stuff does get expensive. And unless you're going to have people pay Google Books at the front end to get them to play the game and be able to enable that possibility of maintaining the game at least for a few years for free. That means that that game is going to have to be a really big price tag at the front end and that money is going to run out of eventually. So either have certain special paid content that you know if you want something that is really luxurious or has really extra special functionality maybe make that paid content and then make the rest of the stuff free. Or make the major updates cost a few bucks here and there.

I think Paralives not charging for DLC could work. Stardew Valley was able to do it and still bring in revenue to this day so I think Paralives can too.
