What surprisingly satisfying things did Neighborhood Stories do in your game?

You know what would be ideal? If instead of clicking the mailbox for updates for the neighborhood stories, the newspaper would make a return! It would be functionally the same thing, but it would be fun to see your sims bring in the newspaper to be brought up to date on what's happening in the neighborhood

In my experience, the kids and pets who are adopted end up being stuck in a perpetual state of neglect because the houses usually don't account for the extra household members. The Goth house is a nightmare for toddlers every time I visited.

The "story progression" I've noticed in my game is mostly townies moving to random towns where they aren't supposed to be, often splitting the family in the process. And like most other people I've seen in the comments, having TONS of kids and animals. I literally have a randomly generated townie in my game that maxed out her household with 1 kid and 6 cats.

A good update would be developing the neighborhood through sims traits. For example, divorces occurring because a sim is noncommittal.

In my game, it's always the Landgraabs going wild with kids and having like, 5 more. I've checked it on various saves, and it always looks the same! Also yes, singles can adopt children too. On one of my saves, I've checked it, and after some time I've noticed that Johnny Zest had a kid.

I use MCCC and Neighborhood Stories together: - MCCC marries sims and makes them have children and adopt (I leave these options disabled from Neighborhood Stories because with MCCC you can choose how many children a couple can have globally, avoiding overpopulation) - with Neighborhood Stories Sims enter careers, adopt pets, retire, etc. and die randomly too (why not LOL) together they work really well actually.

a big problem with the option of "killing" Sims is that the Sims in the househould will lose trey relationship with the dead Sim, with can be very annoying.

I’ve had a lot of single sims adopt kids in my game surprisingly. And couples who already had kids! I’ve also Definitely noticed sims who already had kids or pets end up having or adopting more until the household is maxed out 😬 the Goths had 6 kids but the Pancakes only had 2!

I barely had time to *start* my werewolves playthrough before the Moonwood Collective household adopted a random child. They did that on pretty much day one. That bugged me a lot since it messed with the lore.

Im a sims 4 person but i watch so many sims 2 channels that i started a save in 4 where i play rotationally (started with one family and now theres like 12 households) and i ALWAYS have to go into cas and set the townies as spouses in order to keep things realistic and continue their legacies. Basically every time my sims have babies i wait for them to age up to a toddler and then i go in cas and make the townies have toddlers. Its honestly SUPER annoying but i feel like ive got my system down pretty well now. The only struggle now is having to give all the randomized sims makeovers

The bad thing about NS is that it doesn't respect the children limit enabled in MC Commander Center. So the babies can be born forever in one family!

In my save Neighborhood Stories basically made everyone adopt and birth children until the households were full and then killed almost all of the adults. After I disabled death by accidents and having children, everyone started adopting animals. I had to disable that too. So all in all, everytime something went overboard and you disable it, some other feature goes overboard. I had to disable Neighborhood Stories after that. I hope they will fix it, since I don't have access to mods (I play on xbox).

It was nice to see that the Sims team is at least trying to make the neighborhoods more dynamic, but I think this system can still get a lot better. I do like having it active so the unplayed families don't die out when I'm only playing one family. I'm playing a rotational game in S4 and even with the stories turned off, you still get the calls for the choices, which is... questionable to me. Seems like you can't fully turn it off, but I'm not sure since I don't play S4 as often. Let's hope they'll put some more love into this feature.

i haven't had any sims die from accidents even though i have it turned on for all families. one good thing is that bob and eliza have made really pretty children for my sims to marry in my game

I always customize a few supernatural household stories (Vlad doesn't get to have babies or adopt pets or move, or get a job he just gets to exist until he dies of an accident), and the Goths and the Landgrabs get banned from moving/changing jobs. I love having some of the households be like, legacy styled that stay in the family line. I do wish they would slow it down. I'd love for maybe only 1-2 things to happen and sometimes nothing happens. The world isn't actually all that big and so when you limit what types of stories can occur the frequency of some events really picks up and gets wild.

I don't think much gets "developed" in The Sims 4, sadly. They come up with a good idea (feature) and then they leave it on the field... on to the next unfinished idea.

I started a legacy challenge right after this update, I always erase all money so begining is hard. I found a potential partner for my sim and checked his household, he was living with some guy (they weren't a couple) and a cat. After a while I got a message that he adopted a new cat so I decided the new cat is going to live with us but the old one stays with other dude, I couldn't afford 2 cats at this time, I barely got some walls.... And earning money was actually hard because I relied only on my sim's job and I gave her a doctor career (first time ever and I sucked). I stopped checking mailbox because there's way too much notifications and I don't care that someone from Delgato family moved out. So anyway, at some time I decided to move a guy and his cat into my very small and empty house. Aaaand it turned out that there are 5 cats in his household now. And the other guy is gone. I don't know if he moved out or died but he's gone. Okay, doesn't matter, I feel a bit bad but I'll just get the cat I planned to take and I don't care about the rest but... nope, cats obviously can't live alone. So here I was starting my brand new legacy challenge with 5 cats, some walls, fridge and cheapest double bed... it was a nightmare.

I notice A LOT when I enable the 'adopt cat or dog' option the TYPE of dog breed that they adopt is almost always this weird, white papillon/chihuahua type dog with deformed ears. I don't even know if it's an actual selectable breed but at this point it doesn't feel like the dogs available for adoption are being randomly generated, but if they are then something must be wrong idk 😭

I use this story progression in conjunction with MC Command Center, which work fairly well together. I let MCCC take care of marriages and divorces, then Story Progession to cherry-pick which Sim families might have kids and which won't. I turn off the moving and adoption (child AND pet) options because, let's face it, that's a bit of a hot mess.

I just started playing sims4 and I had no idea about neighborhood stories feature. I made a sim, made her incapable to have her own children and then I created different family and started playing with them. Then it turned out that my single sim adopted a child, I was so shocked so I looked at other families and all of them either adopted kids or had their own but my GOD was there a LOT of unwanted kids...

i have that experience too, the goths and bjergsons have a ton of kids

Anyone else notice too that with NS that when your sims' friends ask them for permission (weird) to date someone that they don't actually get into any type of relationship at all with the sim they apparently had a really fun date with...? For example in my save, my sim was friends with Akira so-and-so (i forgot his last name but he came w city living) and he kept asking her permission to go on dates with all these women, but once I moved him in he literally only knew Miko and Darling...I always turn NS off (whenever I remember it exists) would for sure have it turned on if there was more balance and sims could actually develop relationships with other sims so we wouldn't have to do it manually. It was a cool idea that turned out to be such a huge burden..

I turned Neighborhood Stories off 😑 I like having complete control. I basically play as if it were an animated sitcom, where everyone just stays in the same house and the same age forever. Only big changes I do are things like child/pet adoptions and manual aging for babies and toddlers, but they’re intentional for my storylines. Plus I don’t find any of the randomly generated townies very attractive, and they always have terrible style and stupid names.

They really should tone down the death by accidents option. I like it some of my sims die, because I turn off aging for unplayed household, by they die everyday. Ultimately I turn off Story Progression, because just like any other thing in TS 4, everything is too random for me. I don't mind randomness, because it can bring drama. But if it's just random for the sake of it being random, it is just stupid-- and lazy coding...

i love the die in accident feature so much and i always check who has died and in what way

I don't think i'll enjoy something like neighborhood stories, I've been enjoying rotational gameplay through my neighborhood in the sims 2

I'm a hardcore Sims4 fan and I get different people can have different opinions it's just that I don't see what's so wrong with this feature it's amazing at what's perfectly on my computer

I haven't touched TS4 in over a year, so now there's a lot of new stuff I had no idea about. Maybe the game is a bit better to play now

I have never played The Sims 4, as well as TS3 that both lack story exchanges like in The Sims 2.

My Sims keep getting pregnant and adopting kids like crazy XD

How abt your thoughts on ts2 neighborhoods stories ?

In my game, an elderly sim adopted a baby, so I moved in another sim to make sure the child does not disappear when the elder dies. I disabled dying of accidents for everyone who is not famous just to watch Judith and the bunch slowly go extinct. Jokes aside, my gameplay is really slow (several in-game season cycles before aging up), so the rate at which neighbourhood stories happen is annoying. I wish there was a setting for the game to make up stories less than once a day.

My unplayed Sims ( including unmarried Sims) have babies, pair up with other Sims all the time. I assume it’s neighborhood stories at work. Once an unplayed family has a kid I go into ‘manage neighborhoods’ and uncheck ‘having a baby’ and ‘adopt a child’ so there aren’t massive babies in my game. I do think that the existing families with kids seem to have more, but I make sure they only have 1 kid through neighborhood stories for the same reason. I also get rid of the random extra Sims the game adds & check the Sims a lot, but if anything, I feel like they do their own thing too much.

I also turned it off because as time went on, the households just got cluttered with pets. I feel like if I let enough time pass, everyone would have a dog eventually lol.

Have you taken mc populaction out of your game?

I’m surprised they didn’t give us the option to play matchmaker by other sims asking if they should get to know another sim, and then they have a chance to start dating and get married (or not). Would make more sense than asking if they should have a baby. Then again, it’s the sims 4, I’m not that surprised 🙄

At somepoint ther planing autonom weddings and Engagement so this feature seams to gdt ubdatet.i acily wonder if autonome relationships is part of nighberhood storys or just gets added to normal gameplay that you can Not turn of

Oh god in my file single sims DEFINITELY adopt children Like the MAXIMUM AMOUNT Though it leads to interesting stories even though the besties don't have relationships they adopted like 5 kids so I made them into a poly family Lynx adopted a kid and a dog 😂

in my game the goths keep adopting kids like mad HAHA my kid sim had 3 friends who were all adopted goths

I removed all that crazy in My game it was out of control I hated it lol family's of 7 moving into 1bedroom apartments, teens raising babies and to many pets! Made no sense lol

I honestly have a problem with pets because absolutly no sim wants to adopt them. I've been playing with story progression since a birth of a child to now it's their birthdey to teen in 3 days, on a custom life spawn that is longer then normal, but shorter then long, and I had like 2 families adoptied a pet in that time, only one pet every time. and it was both dogs. I can't say for children tho, because I disabled it right away I really like to control my population, especially that I have to make the couples myself I can make a child when I'm there (and I also need to dress up every sim everytime it ages up untill teenager, because I can't stand how stupid they look, so I'm in cas for every family pretty often anyway) olso funny storry with the random deaths. I had my sim cheat on his girlfriend, in front of her, then a long time later, when she had her own husband, and children, a made the nibling (enby niece/nephew) accidently saduce her husband (accidently, because I forgot that's her husband) and then rigth after he devorced her, she died in a fire by story progression. She was the first victim of the story progression. The game just decided to spare her more harm from my sims family

I deactivate Most of this stuff because it's so stupid. My townies Just adopt Tons of Kids and Pets and move to places which are so stupid. For example, the goth's who adoptet a Ton of Kids moving in a Van-house i build with ONE room uff ..

There is nothing wrong with this feature

Personally, I prefer the adoptions as the Sims 4 genetics are, shall we say, very questionable

I don't like this feature at all, i prefer the game without this, much more like as the game was earlier.
