The best gift that I ever gave myself. My Sisterlocks were installed just over 2 years & for the first time in my life I have a real love affair with my hair.

I met her at a natural hair fair in the late 80s or early 90s. I was one of the first ones to get sisterlocks in my area. Black women used to "slide" up behind me in public and try to check my roots.

This is awesome. I've been on a journey from wanting white hair in my childhood, then being ashamed of my black heritage at a predominantly white high school, to finally arriving at being natural and finding the worth in myself and my black heritage that I never saw until 7 years ago. I want sisterlocks so bad. I don't want to have to do crazy things to make myself look a way I'm not supposed to look. I want to be me, uniquely and beautifully me, and I'm so happy this was invented. I'm in love.

Thank you Dr. Cornwell. I appreciate you so much for your contribution to change the paradigm for African American women. I have received countless compliments from males and females black and white about my hair and have been able to encourage other African American women to appreciate and embrace the natural texture of their own hair, the freedom they can explore and to not be confused by the American European standard of what is beautiful. I would like to see more tutorials and how to's posted on cutting locks into different hair styles when you have a chance. Thanks again....xoxo

Excellent video. I am so proud to have sisterlocks, white people look at me all the time with a look on their faces that says "her hair is beautiful" Many African American women look with a jealous look, but some compliment and some don't. I look in the mirror at my hair and I give myself absolute affirmations of beauty.

Dr. C: Glad you liked the video. I think it's interesting that you point out that we sometimes get more positive feedback about our hair from people we would LEAST expect it from!

I wouldn't say they like ALL natural hair styles.ha We must remember it wasn't so long ago that you couldn't wear "every" natural hair style in professional settings! How crazy it is to tell someone that the hair that grows out of their own head is unexceptionable???ha And although you tend to get the most resistance from blacks. But honestly, how can you think they would think otherwise with all the "white washing" that they've been exposed to their entire lives? And who do you think put that image in black people's minds in the first place? Just saying...

I am a 47 year old male, and I have had every hair style under the sun, and my brotherlocks are my favorite, I will not be cutting them in this life time. ( I did really like my asymetric flatop in the early 90's)

I'm glad I found out about this, I'm in my thirties and I've been through it all with my hair. The chemical burns from the relaxers the growth just to get dry and break off all the to the gelled down fake pony tails and bundles of Brazilian remy, I'm not saying you're wrong if you like those hair styles they look gorgeous for a while but I'm exhausted.... all of that work for someone else's hair. I'm excited to be getting sisterlocks this month.

I just got my sister locs 8 months ago, I love them, but honestly they cost way to much to do and get retightened. I’ve seen KZfaq review on doing your own micro locs and you would save so much money. I’m going to start retightening my own hair because it’s just too much. But I love that a black Woman started this business it’s not something other races can go out and copy to try and look like us. This is a style for us.

Thanks for sharing this video! Sisterlocks have been the best option for me. I create two ponytails using the locks themselves and work out at the gym and keep it moving, This has been the best decision for my hair!

This video gave me a better appreciation of my sisterlocks. The journey, thus far, is 1 year, 4 months and several bouts of doubt until I saw this video and read other sisterlocks' stories. I have experienced many comments, which at times, made me doubt my decision to do sisterlocks, but I am proud of my fast growing, naturally colored red/brown sisterlocks. Kudos to Dr. Cornwell, re: Essence's article. It just reinforced my respect for my decision to do sisterlocks. PROUD SISTER!

When I took a journey back to my roots 6 years ago it was an eye opening experience that catapulted me into a love I had never experienced about myself before. I've been preparing myself for this sisterlock journey and I am ready!

I am seriously considering taking the next step and getting Sisterlocks...Right now I installed mini-twist and will see if I can handle not "combing and playing in my hair". I like the low maintenance, but not the cost. They are a beautiful expression of yet another fascinating aspect of our luxurious hair....

I'm going for it in a yr, I'm natural and had a lot of heat damage from blowing it out. I'm giving myself a yr to fill back in and thicken back up because it became a lil thinner than it was from breakage. I can't wait!

I wanted my hair to be natural, and sisterlocks was my answer to my prayer. I was willing too let a student do it, five days later it was tormenting, but it was good. Praise God! Then the virus lock us up for two and half months. Her teacher said she could fix it, she tried but I got a total mess. Now l just want too cut it off. Maybe one day I will try again.
