I literally heard him say that sentence and my whole body and mind froze for a split second. I've lived a quarter of my life exploring sunflower fields. Lol. It wasn't a problem. I'm an "adult", now, with children, and I still want to go to the sunflower fields alone. It's a problem with my husband that he doesn't understand my need for time alone, let alone comprehend why my time alone would be in a flower field. I love gardening.

Interesting observation. I’m also INFP and sometimes I am confused about how to characterize myself. When I am with a person or a small crowd of like-minded people I can become passionate and animated if we are discussing a topic I care about. Sometimes I catch myself being really loud. My voice carries. I am now almost 40 but when I was younger I loved acting in lead roles and so I wouldn’t say that I was shy. Despite all that I can also be incredibly closed off and awkward, in fact it is more often the case. I can be incredibly shy and I can’t form a sentence well to save my life. I prefer to not try if I’m not with someone who will enjoy the journey of exploring a certain concept not knowing where it will lead. If someone demands I get to the point instantly I get frustrated and prefer to not speak at all. I’m not sure why I switch back and forth between the two!

I'm an INFP, and I've noticed that a lot of people believe us all to be shy and sensitive, and to some extent (for me at least), it's true. However, it's not really that simple. I may be sensitive, but I'm not easily hurt by stupid comments, and while I am shy, I'm not shy in expressing my opinions and I am able to interact properly with strangers and such. I found this video really accurate, a lot more so than many other sources I have seen.

Jen Postles Haha yeah, I'm glad someone else gets it. Only certain specific things will offend me -- like someone forgetting a detail about me that they should know or that I know about them; or me thinking I'm really close to a friend and finding out they don't think the same about me. And as _extremely_ introverted person I have huge walls around myself, so y'know -- I try not show much reaction when offended.

I agree that my biggest weakness is inaction, often due to being trapped in that dream world alone. Also the fact that I derive sufficient value from my dream world and become lackadaisical in reality, can be frustrating. But more importantly, to fellow INFPs reading, I realise that when I use aspects of outer reality as a hyper focus outlet, I find that I can be extremely relentless in my pursuit to succeed. I find that I can be tenacious in achieving something that I'm passionate about in real life. Whether it's learning a new song on the piano, or stirring up my commitment to travel, to writing. I think we INFPs have very special talents, and if we latch on to something that can provide us infinite value, we are relentless perfectionists. Maybe we should all look for that one thing that inspires us in the real world, and just be an absolute boss at it! Track record and history says we are the best at it.

+David Shepard-Alenko Find some INFPs and spend some time with them. You won't change your own personality, but you can explore their Fi through their impressions. Remember that the grass only looks greener until you cross the fence. A heart attack can be rather intense also, it doesn't mean that its fun. Its worth mentioning that they can't turn their Fi off. I agree that the Fi blended with Perceiving can produce some amusing results, it can also get old when its on all the time. Fi can be overwhelming at times. You can explore Fi through them, and still go home to some order when its gets old. Trust me, you're not missing out on anything productive or helpful. Your dom Ni and Fe tools are strong enough to find what you're looking for. There will likely be a disconnect between your order and their chaos. So you may need to summon some patience to get there. Remember that your Ni is your version of the INFPs Fi- its your gift. Your Fe is your best area for growth. Give an INFP some of your Ni and exploration of ideas, and they will likely give you some of their Fi for your effort. Good luck.

I think as an INFP i've noticed how we have a intense and ongoing urge to plan our individual path in life. It needs to be one that is completely based on our heart and soul and makes us happy. We wish to inspire the wider community to find their own passion and live through their heart and we secretly admire our own complete commitment to living life based on what drives us and makes us happy. We tend to obsess over the planning side of tasks and we often fantasise grand results meaning we spend a lot more time thinking than doing. Although we may 'do' a lot and others see us as very 'busy' we spend a whole lot more time thinking and planning. Our downfall is that we often have immense trouble taking these thoughts and ideas and turning them into a finished project of some sort, as we don't want to endure the actual 'work' as that takes us away from our dream world we thrive in. This can be very discouraging to us as we feel as if we haven't succeeded in vital self expression and we get deep sadness from not being able to reach our standards we want to reach when it comes to our passion. We live for constant self discovery and analysis of ourselves and how we fit into the world. We look for role models who seem to hold our core values and who have achieved big things and feel immense pressure by ourselves to reach their level very quickly, for this reason we often experience self doubt but nothing will stop our internal fire and we'll never stop fanning it! We thrive on unconventionality and we feel proud to be unconventional. Expression - Passion - Analysis - Thinking - Planning - Fantasy - Self-Discovery. We have the power to inspire the world around us. (If you would love to chat to a fellow INFP feel welcome to send me a message)

I am a dreamer to a tee. My dreams are very detailed and I often remember most of them, although recently I have forgotten them. Sometimes I will have fantastically weird dreams that are linked to fantasy and all that, but other times I get these really dull, mundane dreams that are simply reflections of the days events that just go against my auxiliary Ne need for creativity and exploration. However some of my realistic dreams are quite fascinating in the sense that I learn something from them and can apply what they symbolise to my real life and inner feelings. I also see visions or daydreams during the day, I find them more fascinating because you are fully awake when seeing them.

Being an INFP, I like to look into people, animals, ect's eyes. They tell the truth and beauty of the holder to those eyes. Its quite remarkible and interesting. Yet some are hard to see into because they may be so hurt, confused, or they hoder hides them quite well (meaning they do not want the world to see them, and they are so driven to doing as the world that they forget who they are and lose the full beauty of those eyes.) The world is a crazy, and interesting thing.

Do any other INFPs feel like they can get a good sense of others' personalities just by looking into their eyes? I swear I can just make eye contact with someone I've never met and tell their general personality just by that and the way they talk and certain mannerisms. It's weird because if I ever get to know the person more, I'm right about them probably 90% of the time. Is it just a thing with me or is it like that for all INFPs (and possibly some other NF personality types as well)? Edit three years later: yeah, so I'm actually an INFJ. I've realized that I'm actually completely out of touch with Fi and I don't understand my own feelings at all lol. Not sure how I ever thought I was INFP. I'm much more in tune with other's emotions than I am my own. I always thought that these two types we're super similar, but they're really not. Leading with Ni is completely different from leading with Fi, but since they're both introverted functions, it can be hard to tell from the outside.

Am I the only INFP here, who get the negative chills by the whole "dreamer'' thing? I really don't life in a lord of the rings fantasy - land on my unicorn - pony. Everything that's going on inside my head - resonates very strongly to reality. Mostly I use my introverted judging function, exactly like INTP does. (I have an INTP father, and we're as good as the same), to suss everything out. Yes, I do have more fantasy and enjoy creative expression more than he does, it doesn't really work like that. It's not escapistic, at the contrary, it's quite in touch with the world around us. NFP's are easily wondered by all kind of things around them. They notice all kind of interesting things AROUND them, this they take in, in their heads, concepts of life - and think trough, work out. It can be everything. It's more a kind of deepening our understanding about society, the universe, life and human nature - we always get it from impressions of the real world, and it deepens our understanding of the real world. The whole thing NFP's have with literature is just a way of digging deeper in the reality of life and exploring it - constantly going back and fourth, between our artistic work and reality/what we notice about the concept around us. It's more a way of thinking, than a way of "dreaming.'' When you talk with an NFP, it will be about life, the universal, about reality. Not about their 'fantasy - lands.' Dreamer is a wrong cliché. Of course there are NFP's who have the 'dream - land' thing. But it's not the rule of being NFP. Another thing that's interpreted the wrong way on the internet: NFP - types see beauty and everything and everyone. Not exactly, we find interest and fascination in everything. Say, someone kills somebody else. Well, we won't think that person is beautiful for it, but it will trigger fascination, about the why - about the psyche of that person, the motives, about what happened. It's not seeing beauty in everyone, it's finding something interesting in everything.

Jan Land I actually wholeheartedly agree with your concerns, and have regretted I didn't make the idea of the Fi "dream world" clearer, or not have used all this fantastical landscapes as the pictures. I like the way you put it, that Fi is another way of thinking, and not something different called dreaming. That's absolutely correct. When I refer to dream world, at least now anyway, I simply mean that introverted judging functions (Fi and Ti) develop their judgments subjectively. This different perspective, which is by no means necessarily less accurate or useful than objective judgments, has the feel of a "dream world" because it does not want to reach out and think about things on their own, but always relates it back to what's already in the thinker's head, adding to it and changing it. Thus there is always something interposed between it and reality, but that is not to say that it has no interest in reality. Kierkegaard and Rousseau were interested entirely in reality. But the difference is that introverted judging develops this judging system in a realm separate from reality, and then compares reality to it, meaning that there is a sense that the Fi type or Ti type has another world that they prefer to this one, which they could only develop by making judgments about reality and saying: this is wrong, this is how it should be. I don't suppose that makes sense or jives with you? I like everything that you said.

Jan Land I think your on to the distinction between the INFP and ISFP. The 3rd/tertiary function is what distinquishes all the types from each other and the INFP's Introverted Sensing makes our Introverted Feeling very practical and down to earth, contrary to the whole NF assumption. ISFP's are actually more likely to connect their Fi with abstract dream world stuff then INFP's, Because ISFP's Fi-Ni loop doesn't touch reality. For example they are terrible at setting up boundaries. INFP's are actually very aware of boundaries. Fellow INFP here.

The Clerk So Ne and Te has no serious effect on the INFP? I thought Si was mostly like big libary were we store all information collected by Ne that guides our Fi. Also that Si grants higher sense of detail to our imagination and aids the Ne by helping us try to see all sides of things.

Jan Land Hmm, I do tend to be a dreamer, but not at all in a fantasy land type genre. When I was little for instance, I obsessed about Star Trek and being a character in it, or I'd pretend to be lost at sea somehow trying to find home--but it was set in the world as I read it in a novel about the 1960s. I agree also with the being more fascinated than spell bound by beauty, personally show giddy appreciation for something I like--but it's not necessarily because of beauty. For instance, people are amazing little puzzles to study and there's really no shortage of them.

UPDATE: about 7:29 I explain that the INFP is more likely to resonate with the idea that it doesn't matter what you believe so long as you are sincere about that belief, with the implication that this was a central idea of philosopher Soren Kierkegaard. This idea has been a popular interpretation of Kierkegaard, but this is not the only possible interpretation. Kierkegaard, being a devout Christian, was not necessarily implying that there is no objective truth, but rather, that a pagan praying sincerely to his idol is much better off than a Christian who prays insincerely to God, even though this be the true God. Thus the focus is not on moral relativity, but on the merits and importance of personal sincerity in a belief instead of just knowing its true and going through the motions. This, I think, is a better representation of Fi. Interestingly, this concept of sincerity, as I understand it, was primarily directed against Hegel, an INTJ and Ni dominant, and mirrors the natural objection Fi often has against Ni, that it only seeks to understand things and build great explanatory systems, but has no moral passion or sincerity in it. Thus the feeling that the Fi values subjective passionate truth while the Ni values objective dispassionate truth.

True. Since it can't be a question of objectively determining which God or form of worship is 'true,' I can only be a question of which form of devotion actually transforms one's inner self. The reality ("truth") of any form of worship (but not "God," necessarily) must lie in what it effects in the worshiper. This is the psychological approach to religion. It is the approach of the mystic rather than the theologian qua dogmatist. Both approaches may defend faith, but the INFP's strategy is nearer to being relativistic because it identifies "true" with what transforms, not with what is or could in some objectively verifiable sense be established as corresponding to reality. IN other words, the INFP is the champion of faith as the medium of the heart who is convinced that the source of Good is given with his humanity.

Well this is certainly true, I am an INFP, before I watched this video I was talking to my councilor about how if someone works really hard to follow all the rules of the bible but doesn't really mean it in their heart then that's not as good as someone who doesn't maybe follow all the rules but is sincere in their love for God. I believe that's its not about what your doing or what you believe but how you believe it. It is not about what you do, its about what's in your heart when you do these things and if you are doing it for a good reason. I also think that people who try to control what others believe are in the wrong because they are extending their belief to try and control other people with it. If one is entitled to their own beliefs then they should agree that everyone else deserves the same freedom.

@@tinajeppesen5948 people may be haters if we are feeling hurt about ourselves, but once we forgive them we rediscover there is goodness in everyone. To love is to risk being hurt, and in that there is a sad beauty. I take pleasure in being able to weather the storms of life, because there is a beauty in tragedy that makes life worth living. If I can pull through this hard time and still come out smiling, then my belief in the goodness of the world is justified, and I become a bastion of hope for others in a dreary world. I take the pain because it contrasts the beauty, and makes me wish to bring forward the goodness I see in everything even harder. Whenever I am crushed I become stronger, and the stronger I am, the more my light can shine. It takes a lot to forgive somebody who has deeply hurt you, because you feel like their malice has been justified by your forgiveness, but if you can see it in yourself to rise above, you'll see that your belief in goodness surpasses their malice, and you can once again bring light into the world.

I am an infp. I found that out last year and it makes so much sense to why i am weird. I have trouble getting things done. I usually procrastinate until the last minute. For example, my examinations. I always procrastinate doing my revision and end up burning the midnight oil. I really don't like rigid education system whereby we study just for the sake of the test and certificiations thus i have trouble motivating myself. Surprisingly.. though i always study few hours before the exam, I always get good grades. I think it's luck. Who knows. Often times I feel guilty for taking this "luck" for granted. This does not only happens in the education or studying context. I always procrastinate everything. Even if i put my phone away or make sure that there's no other distraction around, doing something that I feel does not hold deep value...bores me. Phones, people or internet won't distract me. My inner thoughts are enough as a distractors. This comment is long. I'm sorry. Being infp is great. But it's overwhelming.. i don't even understand myself. Why can't i just conform with the things around me. Life would be easier like that. Right? But having to live your life, not being able to find your true self and doing the things that you really want until one day u wake up, old and grey, and realised you've wasted time and it's too late... is really saddening. The problem is I don't know what i want in life, what career path i should pursue, what am i really good at. Infps are usually connected w/ writers.. painters.. etc. But what if i am not good at any of those? Fellow infps.. help. I'm scared and lost. I've watched so many videos and read so many tips regarding infps.. i still feel lost. One minute i thought i had figure it out.. but but... so sorry that this is super long. I have no one that i can talk to regarding this. I feel that if i cant understand myself... how can others understand me.. i did try to talk to my mom or closest friends. I think they think i'm weird. 🤷‍♀️🤔

When it comes to school, the way I tend to think is like " they're here to prepare you for the basics" be it the basics of another subject or a field of work you're trying to get into. If there are things you want to learn yourself, research them on the internet! Being a life long learner is suuper easy at this point in time. And Oh my gosh! I've had a crazy time deciding what I want to do with my life. I'm especially afraid of never being good enough at stuff. But the way I've hashed it out in my head is that I'll be whatever its I want to be! There are certain things you need a degree to do, but there are others where skill and talent are the only actually important things you need. Just try to do your best and challenge yourself (which will probably result in improvements of your abilities).

From my experience another reason an INFP may reject the deductive reasoning of Te has to do with the multifaceted vison provided by Ne. The INFP may see that a case can be made for many sides of the same issue. Rather than build a fortress out of an argument picked either at random or through personal bias, the INFP may choose to instead side with objective possibility. For this reason they may be more comfortable fiddling with reality, exploring it and poking it with a stick, than settling on and believing wholeheartedly in a deductively derived point of view.

To all the INFPs (and ISFPs) out there: 1. Be aware of the "Fi tilt". What this means is that if a Fi-dom is presented an idea that is a whole, some singular part of it may feel horrible, and Fi has a tendency to close off to the whole idea because of that one unacceptable part, even if taken as a whole it would fit well with what the Fi-dom considers good and desirable. 2. Be careful when dealing with Thinking types: Even if you value logic and reason, and they think understanding others' feelings is important, a communication disconnect will almost inevitably happen. This is because Tx types are prone to making (what they think are) impartial evaluations of things, and tend to make strong statements about many things, while you tend to place good/bad evaluations in everyday language (that they find distasteful or are blind to) From your end, there are a few things that can be done to smooth out communication: Try to repeat to yourself that these statements they make are to describe how they see the world is right now, as if writing things down for a history book. It does not describe what they think is morally right and valuable or desirable. Simply how things are. Try to ask them separately how they feel about things (they like separating sentiment and logic, but sentiment in and of itself is ok), and try to express yourself in that manner as well. Basically: "It's stupid to go to Stabbytown at night and get mugged. A T type saying that does not mean that Stabbytown should stay bad like that, just that the current situation is that going to Stabbytown at night is a Bad Idea and as such should be avoided. Fi is prone to interpret this as them saying it's ok that Stabbytown is a shithole, and understandably ask the T type if they're perhaps crazy or don't give a shit about others. If you then say that you should be able to go to Stabbytown at night, T will go wtf in turn because yes, of course that would be desirable but the world is not a perfect place and Stabbytown happens to be a shithole." Worse example than I intended, but I hope it illustrated at least something. I think the INFP stack's biggest problems come from Fi's dominance and that it's otherwise a very problem-free stack that's easy and nice to develop. Fi is a good function but it has some idiosyncracies that it pays to be aware of. Deal with them, and most of your type's "type defects" are taken care of! Criticism welcome, fire at will ^^

Michael Pierce It's a really insidious effect, because how Fi and Tx primary users generally interpret and "load into" their statements is very unconscious and deeply rooted. The price of freedom is often said to be constant vigilance, here it's the price that both parties need to pay for fruitful discussion. It doesn't help that all three functions are pretty damn stubborn. How Fe-Tx interactions work out, I've no clue, sadly.

It's stupid to go to Stabbytown at night and get mugged'' is a statement that I as an INFP would read as a statement of fact, not a value judgment. The only way I would read it otherwise would be if tone or context indicated something else or if I found their claim wrong or just plain prejudice . If I knew Stabbytown was a dangerous place, I could understand why going there would be a bad idea. It is not ideal, but nothing is. Being INFP or NFP is not about seeing the world with flower lence. If you read or watch fiction or philosophy from NFP's you often find bleakness. A deep analyze of the darkness of humanity, be it Ingmar Bergman or Orson Welles cinema, be it the fiction of George Orwell,Camus, Huxley, Sylvia Plath, Mark Twain,Virginia Woolf and Franz Kafka just to name a few, you often find bleakness, dystopia, or exploration to even sides to humanity that people often hide from themselves. Albert Camus thought there was no cure for the human condition, we can only understand within ourselves. Like many NFP, I am a writer(among other artistic things) and try to see nuances and analyse nuances in language. Of course problem of communication can occur, But I think your example is a bit simplistic. Were it can occur would be more when the distinction beetwen value judgment and factual statement is more blurred. Then possibly a INFP may read it as statement of value. I often feel how ever that misunderstanding beetwen me and Fe types tend to be quite common. The arguments I have had with INFJs and the like have been often been rooted in Fi counter Fe. I usualy have less problem understanding Ti dominates like INTP's. I think Jan Land in this comment section put it very well in how a more accurate discription, even if Michael did a good job, even he sees why some aspects of his explaination can be seen as problematic. Maybe dreamworld is not good, becasue Ti and Fi, while subjective is not seperate from reality, it is still concerned with it.

First KZfaq comment ever, in life; yaay! Now that's out of my system lol, I desire to speak admirably about INFPs by comparing us with the lovely INFJs. If INFJs are Instinctive Psychics due to their primary subjective intuition and extraverted feeling as a secondary function, then I prefer to coin INFPs as "Clever Psychics." I say clever because INFPs will always remain genuine to personal values as that is our primary function. Yet, our secondary function is extraverted intuition. This means we would have assessed an environment including all of its details to perceive possible outcomes well before any other MBTI Type. The implications of this phenom? INFPs could instinctively perceive a possible future for persons or an enviornment objectively unlike the INFJs that can perceive unspoken feelings within an unsaid person's present moment. Furthermore, INFPs would be able to avoid danger, clamity and possible conflict by instinctively evaluating their surroundings and perceiving its end results at record breaking speed. This is absolutely clever for one to consider as oppose to our INFP "dreamer" reputation. Oh, and although our crutch are critisms, we are great harmonizers ;-) Natrually peace keepers.

Someone else had noted that INFP females have a childlike, youthful appearance. I’ve noticed this as well, with attitude and appearance of innocence, for both male and female INFPs. It would be interesting to form a hypothesis as to why that is-indeed if it is. Perhaps, aspects of introversion and aversion to stress maintains a semblance of youthfulness, in attitude and appearance. Furthermore, INFP’s sensitive nature may manifest itself in an outward appearance of childlike innocence. Also, spending time in isolation, to some degree, could also possibly add to the phenomenon as the sun is a primary factor relating to the aging process? But, as noted, it would be difficult to make a logical argument for such an observation, particularly with a small sample size, from which I am drawing, as well.

Socionics argues that heavy Ne users (ENFP, ENTP, INFP, INTP) assume the role of a "child" in romantic settings, whereas those with predominant Si (ISTJ, ISFJ, ESTJ, ESFJ) become the care takers to them, and those types are supposedly most compatible when it comes to forming partnership. That would explain the childlike energy those types may or may not exume. Similarly major Ni types (INTJ, INFJ, ENTJ, ENFJ) become the "victim" to their Se counterparts (ESFP, ESTP, ISFP, ISTP) who assume the role of an agressor. Whilst it may sound concerning people forget to realise that Se and Ni is very much based on a power dynamics and control of the immediate or upcoming/future environment.

Seeking the 'source of the light' indeed. This is a profound and well-thought out video. The amount of wisdom MPTI embodies is amazing. I'm intrigued by the bit about being more "aggressive towards inner experience," which suggests more involved with and possibly in conflict with. I had never thought of it in terms of aggression, but it makes a lot of sense. It suggests both that INFPs move toward that which is possible and the past-as-present, and that they are likely to struggle with self-evaluations when they are negative in a way other types might not. It is probably true that once implanted such evaluations are less readily transcended by this type. INFP seems to correspond to point 4 of the Enneagram. I notice that typologies (whether MBTI, Astrological horoscopes, or the Enneagram) reinforce each other.

This video is very insightful and greatly appreciated. As an INFP, I would just like to add that even though in your comparison between INFJ and INFP it makes sense that INFJs would resonate more with finding universal, objective truths, I do not agree that most developed INFPs are okay with believing whatever as long as it's with your whole heart. A belief can cause harm if it does not fit a certain line of ethics or facts. I think that INFPs aware of this are more likely to champion individualism that could potentially enrich the world, not make it a worse place.

The dream world for the most part is true. I find it very amusing to toggle all sorts of dilemmas in my fantasies, the only problem I have, is that I don't know how to properly write. I do always enjoy narratives you write of your free will in school, but simple grammatical errors are quite off puting for me. I also have no idea as to how to write a book. But, I also have a true inner desire to lead people as moving a crowd with my voice, but I get way too uncomfortable to start a conversation with people I know very well. Another problem that arises, is knowing if people read my writing, so uncomfortable to let anyone see my inner spirit. Though I will say it is a thousand times easier to talk through texting than face to face. Finding a career is also horrible, I could change from wanting to be an architect to a forensic anthropologist in the course of a week, until I just kind of gave up and I have thought hard on being a writer. Also just something I noticed personally from watching the video, Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter, was always a very interesting character to me.

As an INFP I'm finding that the reality that I make for myself in my head in my mind space with my own values and morality codes is at times realier than the reality that lives outside of that space. And in recent years a lot of the fears that I guess infps fear are coming true; a dark soulless conformity, a loss of individualism, and the changing of one's self to fit the society at large. And, while I have my mind and my silly faculties about me I've made it abundantly clear to those who want to listen and those who want to experience this short life that at the end of the day you don't have to change to fit the world around you just keep being your strange unique and get beautiful self. I love being an INFP, so full of mystery, contradictions, and a sense of childish wonderment and I'm starting to realize that these aspects about myself and other INFP personalities are exactly what makes us so unique. Even if others can not see it for themselves.

An extremely well made video about this personality type. Usually videos as such leave out information or go away from the point, but in your case the core aspects have been mentioned and focused intensively upon. There were new insights as well, which were either paraphrased or not present in other videos, books - you made great connections and these new revelations do make sense when one starts to think about, consistent logic. If to get on a more personal level this theoretical background of the video, combined with the reason if its existence might mean that you are either INFJ with a well developed Ti or INTP. As for a feedback, I am still not sure as of yet what my personality type is (either INFP or INFJ), since my internal world seems so chaotic and ever-changing, but I have great ideas to select and compare from. Thank you kindly, Chris

I am an INFP, however I restrict my thoughts to whatever I like and I don't like thinking too deeply, even though I know very well that I have the ability to. I often find myself conflicted because of this barrier because I find myself unable to delve deeper into my own world, because I know it would eventually lead to opening up some long drawn out introspective about the real world which I don't want to know. It can also lead to wandering down a road only to find out that it was just a dead end. I then feel frustrated about the time and thought wasted when I could have been doing more useful things. With all the demands of life on the outside, trying to make my introspection clear to myself through thought is difficult; especially after an incident a few years ago where my thoughts became so muddled that I couldn't think up more than 3-4 cohesive sentences,(which I chalked up to a severe case of writing block) I became sleepy all the time during lessons and other mental activities that didn't fall under my absolute favourite subjects. However a year and a few months before this happened a humongous wall appeared in my mind scape. After I removed it I dispersed my world because I realised it took up too much of my "real" life. Eventually I began to feel sleepy even in my favourite class, I'm still combating the effects. Relating to the real world is often a struggle now and I can't quickly distinguish beyond basic details( colour, what the object is, if its an irregular shape, etc) about the things I see around me like I used to. I do want to learn and read deeply but I don't want to know the evils and demonic hardships of life, then there's this block... Light can't be without dark..urgh, I'm basically in a tug-o-war with myself here...This was a very thought provoking piece. Great job!

***** Regarding sharing (in general): When you accept an offering of piece of a dead animal, the one who is offering runs out of it quicker and will sooner have to buy more (instead of perhaps storing it for later use) so in this way you are somewhat contributing to the meat industry if it makes sense. Veganism is quickly becoming more and more accepted and becoming a larger niche so for example my friends know I'm a vegan so it's given that I won't eat animal products and if someone doesn't know, I'll state that I'm a vegan and it is a neutral occasion. Also I've been a vegan so long that consuming animal products can make me feel sick (due completely different gut bacteria than what I used to have when I was still a non-vegan) so that's another good reason to refuse. I also loved the taste of dead animals, but I figured that my appetite isn't more important than the life of another sentient being so it was easy to switch.

It is part of my activism to talk about things as they really are. My directive is to make people think, as was done to me, which led to self-reflection and updating my world view and my behavior. I understand it's not making people comfortable, but it ought to move something inside them and that's not necessarily a bad thing. People are usually not aware or actively neglect their conscience of what their food used to be and how it's made (since most people are appalled of animal cruelty and would feel bad about seeing what happens to the animals in the meat/dairy/egg industries), that's why reminding them about it (like calling meat a dead animal) is useful to bring forth the awareness of the reality. I personally don't like to bake things but we have baked many things in our apartment and even our friend, a professional baker has baked incredible vegan chocolate cakes, it's very possible to do so without animal ingredients, eggs can be replaced with many things, even using bananas. Today my friend baked meringues using the juice of chickpeas. The effect is the same as using eggs. Cow's milk can be replaced with many different plant based "milks", There's soy milk, oat milk, hemp milk, almond milk, rice milk etc. and they can be used in cooking/baking as well. I eat ice cream quite often, they are made out of aforementioned plant milks and some are honestly even better than any ice creams made out of cow's milk that I have ever eaten.

I noticed that some people have expressed disagreement with your characterisation of the INFP 'dreamworld', but personally I actually resonated with it to an uncanny degree. Especially the image you use of a system of caverns and the inner light within and the desire to delve down into the self and construct a detailed imaginary world. All that is completely spot on for me. In fact, exactly this kind of imagery has turned up in my own writing over and over again. I literally write about characters who delve into underground realms - systems of caverns and subterranean tunnels - and discover ancient, mysterious and strange secrets. And even the image of the glowing inner light in this underground world - it turns up repeatedly in my writing. I also have a penchant for surreal and strange imagery. I'm obsessed with the idea of making imaginary and strangely beautiful worlds, and describing them in so much detail that they become real, concrete, material even. One of my favourite writers who I hold up as a model to myself in this regard is Mervyn Peake (who wrote the 'Gormenghast' trilogy or the 'Titus Books'). I don't know if you're familiar with him, but I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts regarding him and his type, because his writing seems to me to exemplify a lot of the traits that you describe in this video. But the confusing thing is that I've recently started questioning my type and started to wonder whether I might actually be an ISFP, and that these qualities could actually be described as arising from the Se-Ni axis in conjunction with dominant Fi. What confuses the matter, of course, is that everybody seems to have a slightly different understanding and definition of what the functions actually are. But in many ways Jung's characterisation of introverted intuition in Psychological Types resonates with your description of the INFP dreamworld (and of my own dreamworld); he described the 'introverted intuitive type' as a dreamer, a mystic and an artist; specifically (if I understood and remembered rightly) as somebody who has greater access to the collective unconscious, who can look inwards and see into this archetypal realm. And what better an image for the realm of the collective unconscious than that of a system of subterranean caverns full of strange riches? And then, perhaps, Se could be understood as manifesting in a desire to flesh out, give substance and form to this rich inner world so that other people can experience it. I don't know. It's all rather slippery! No sooner do I think I've finally gotten a hold of the functions and how they work than some new point of view or piece of information comes along to scatter the little model I've been building for myself! Another thing I wanted to say: I thought it was really interesting in your INTP video when you mention how their inferior Fe imparts the tendency to formulate universal moral systems, a la Kant's categorical imperative. And it occurred to me that there may be a parallel tendency with INFPs and their inferior Te: namely, that INFPs (and perhaps also ISFPs) actually have a tendency to create their own philosophies. Two examples I was thinking of were Tolstoy (with the notorious philosophical disquisitions in War and Peace), and the English writer Thomas Hardy, both of whom, incidentally, were very influenced by the philosophy of Schopenhauer, and both of whom, accordingly, had deeply pessimistic philosophies centred around the idea of a universal 'Will.' Of course, I'm not sure if both of these writers were INFPs, but I at least strongly suspect that Thomas Hardy was. Tolstoy's a bit harder to figure out! Anyway, sorry for this ramble. I got very stimulated by this video!

I'd always heard the argument that J.R.R. Tolkien was ISTJ (SO much detail in his world, so much history and realism that textured his Middle Earth) and C.S. Lewis was INTJ (granted an INTJ with uniquely well developed Fi, but I think it's a fair argument when you read his nonfiction work). Amazing writers no matter their type though.

So I was watching personality videos that were not very accurate so I decided to take the 16 personality test. Took it before a while back. I just feel reading into INFP is helping me clear things out in my life. I have always wanted to be authentic but I felt it was not bringing to me the things I need. All my life I have tried to be someone I am not. I am unique and I like being unique. I am passionate about my values. I cried for two weeks when my best friend moved away to Vermont. I've met a few other people over the years who seemed really nice, but soon scare them off with my all-in intensity. So I do spend a lot of time on the internet because I am so hungry for some kind of connection. In real life I find that trying to fit in is very tiring; hiding who I am is hard. I love movies and books where I can really identify with a character when they react within the plot the way I would do in similar circumstances. It is nice thinking that maybe there isn't anything wrong with me except my INFPness and I'm not alone after all.

Recently I've been doing a lot of reading up on the MBTI, especially since most of the tests I do say INFJ and only some say INFP, while the enneagram tests every single time said "It is not clear by your answers what your type is. You are equally possibly a 5w4 or 4w5". It seems my personality isn't that easy to pin down and since I am a little different every day, my honest answers vary every day, too, while in the MBTI and INFJ groups I am in people seem to be quite certain which one suits them best. I have come to the conclusion that the indicator just is what it is: An indicator, a preference, not necessarily an exclusion of the traits of other personality types. So often I read or hear „You are EITHER OR. You can't exchange them or be both!“ While I fully agree that you can't be both AT THE SAME TIME, I do not agree that you can only stick to one. Either that or there are certain people who despite of the excellent and detailed work in Jung's 16 Types theory still do not fit into a single one of them to a hundred percent. I wasn't sure if I was INFJ or INFP as well - superficially they look very similar, it's the foundation and in-depth motivation that's contrary. After learning as much as possible about both and theory in general I could conclude that most of my days I indeed am INFJ, absolutely, with all its positive AND negative traits. Often enough, though, I have those days where my perspective shifts or gets shifted by a certain event or thing and I find myself identifying myself with INFP a LOT more. I am pretty sure even that in my teenage years I was a lot more of an INFP than INFJ. I have also noticed that while I'm working creatively, as in painting and drawing, my views and "feeling" switches to be more INFP-like while when I'm designing I am fully in analytic logical pattern- and connections seeking INFJ mode. It is, by the way, even one of the main reasons why I chose exactly the job I have - to be able to switch and have the best out of both worlds. I seem to only stick to those two though, I find myself not being able to switch to an xSTJ- or xSTP-mode yet, which would be a huge advantage career-wise. The thing I miss a little in both descriptions is the ability to change your perspective purposefully. One does see every side of things, the other isn't really aware. This is something though that does come with age, experience and knowledge for people who truly work on themselves and actively work on growing to become a "bigger" person. It's kind of immature to claim you can only stick to and live by your traits and not get out of your personality box; it's an excuse for people who aren't willing to try in my opinion. Ths isn't meant as an insult, absolutely not - I'm just saying that by growing also your perspectives shift and you see things like the indicator a little more open instead of being too stuck with some rule so many seem to see as untouchable. We have the beautiful advantage of free will and formable intelligence. Who's to say we can only be what that little indicator says about us?

@Komatik_
@Komatik_ 9 жыл бұрын
+Alexandra Gregor +Satori2.0 What's happening there is just emphasizing different parts of the personality - functional type and enneatype are more or less ingrained in us. It's best to keep in mind that functional type is a pattern of cognitive tendencies, predilections, go-to ways of doing things, not a straitjacket that says you have to act a certain way, same with enneatype, which has a built-in fluctuation model as well. I'm a Te type, that doesn't mean I can't do formal logic, for example, just that I find it more strenuous and less natural than a Ti-dom might, for example - his cognitive tendencies of formal, model-oriented thinking just line up better with the task than my habit of focusing on the state things are in. The functions also largely speak of the how, not the what of what we do. They do influence what we typically find interesting, of course, but people are individuals and their passions lie in the strangest places sometimes. Using or not using certain functions shouldn't influence you to abandon your interests, merely inform the way you go about them should you choose to. Type is indeed useful for personal change for the better - as a Te type I have a tendency to be too blunt, and recognizing that can help me see when it is inappropriate and try to soften my expression should I catch myself and feel it warranted. But the self-reflection won't simply make that tendency to go away - I am and always will be a Te type, just a better person afterwards.

Alexandra Gregor little late to the party here but I believe you are only one type here. 16 personality types is not very many and people are so complex and different that these types are more like a “big picture” idea. Some of your traits will overlap with other types but you will always be more of one type. I think if I saw your body language I could type you correctly. Im an INFP and psychology pro :) I relate to INTJs quite a bit but most definitely am not one, for example. I tested as INFJ the first time because my first major was pre-pharm and chemistry and I was trying to go the organized route with the pressures of my conservative family. It made me believe I was more organized than I was and I didn’t understand myself as well as I do now.

What I recently been thinking about is that one difference between INFP and INFJ which is less talked about, but better addressed by socionics and personalityjunkie.com is the following. I run an MBTI group. What I notice is that INFJs are usually put together and have an elegant appearance. When they talk they seem to be part of an intellectual or spiritual aristocracy (I am not trying to moralize, bear with me). They would buy for quality and they live to eat. This has the quality of Fe+Se. Leading with Ni, INFJs are ethical but they are highly concerned with aesthetics. They prioritize beauty, intellectually and also appearances. INFPs are very plain, they just put together whatever that is comfortable. When they talk, though they may be intelligent or have fantasies, they want to come off as ordinary and down-to-earth. They save money, so they buy second-hand furniture and go to the Salvation Army for clothes. This has an Si-Ne quality (being sparse but resourceful, even whimsically so). It might make Fe-Se go "yuck!" INFJs and INFPs are both ethical and aesthetic, but INFPs will prioritize the former and INFJs the latter. As a result, INFJs may appear to be snobby, and INFPs like dirty hippies that need a makeover (and that is important, because it affects others when one does not take care of oneself), if we take both types to the extreme. INFJs may need to be less indulgent and INFPs need to relax overly-strict standards (ascetic and ethical) that prevent them from taking in the richness of life.

The contrasting INFJ and INFJ part was really interesting to me. That’s me and my best friend and we kind of have an ongoing debate about the difference between the two. She feels they’re exacuthe same because we’re so similar. I think our main difference is that while we both have strong beliefs she’s so sure hers are right and true and must be the way the world really works whereas I know mine are purely subjective. I think I’m just fully aware of how little I know and how limited my view is. I think it also makes me much less forceful about trying to get others to care about what I care about...even if I long for them to

Love the video. I type myself as an introvert, my friends say I am an extrovert. So I feel unsure wether I am an ENFP or INFP. The ENFP video feels wrong. I may be able to act like an extrovert, all bubbly and funny but it feels like a mask. I kinda trained socializing and being really warm with people because years ago I considered myself too 'uncool' - way too quiet and shy as a teenager. I then, changed and don't act shy anymore...but still I feel drained after spending too much time with people. I even pretended to like clubbing and concerts when in reality I wanted to leave...fast. I became well liked and popular but untrue to myself. Maybe I should accept my shy self again... but then I am constantly asked: "Are you sad? What's wrong with you?" which is really annoying...but to be true to myself, no matter what other people think of me becomes more and more important after I grew into an adult. Is it possible for an introvert to wear an extrovert mask? Am I just a depressive ENFP? A more outgoing INFP? Where is the line? I hope the next INFP Video revisited will help...I am looking forward to it! :)
