This band changed my life. Like seriously. Was never really into Reggae/Ska/Dub before I saw these 3 years ago with You Me At Six. As a musician, the Skints totally changed my musical direction. Don't get me wrong, I still love the Music I grew up listening too. But I have now found my calling in life with this music. The only reason I picked up a bass guitar was because of Jonathon Doyle, his skill and basslines totally inspired me. All I have to say is thank you to The Skints.

I’ve been a huge fan of this style for years, from sublime, the dirty heads, the movement, pepper, fortunate youth, artikal soundsystem and many more, until I head Jakob Nowell (Sublime) comment about you guys on a podcast yesterday I’d never even seen a song of hours cross my path or timeline, I’m clearly late to the party, but I sure am glad I finally made it. 🤘🏻

As much as I love the Skints you've got to love the irony of a bunch of kids born and raised in London, singing about how they were all born and raised in London. All singing with fake Jamaican accents.
@katoness
@katoness 8 жыл бұрын
London and Jamaican accents mixed together. Two cultures colliding. That is good, is it not?
@Jasonlimitless
@Jasonlimitless 8 жыл бұрын
Do you know the first album? The song 'culture vulture'? 'culture vulture i am not, i'm just tryina have a good time' They were criticized before for it. I think 'cultural appropriation' is bullshit, but its still funny that they sing with Jamaican accents when they speak complete English accents, and I still think its ironic singing about being from London with a pretend Jamaican accent. (Sting was slated for the same thing with Police). Still love the band though, saw them live a few years back, they're incredible live!
@katoness
@katoness 8 жыл бұрын
GuitarParts101 Yeah, I know the first album, there just celebrating the music they love, whatever accent they use. Judge Dread did the same with the song Big Six, everyone in Jamaica thought he was a black man, shocked to realize he was actually a white cockney Londoner. Sting sounds like a white man, he don't sound like Jacob Miller!!
@Gottacacheemalll
@Gottacacheemalll 7 жыл бұрын
That's very common in reggae. You should check out the Long Beach scene in the states. Or the oc movement in the 90s. It's part of the genre. Listen to early ska and reggae, you wouldn't spot accents at all because it was more for je music than the Jamaican culture. As they were in a sense trying to emulate American styles. It wasn't till reggae got the Rasta influence when you started hearing heavy Jamaican forced accents.
