In this video we guide you through the smallest solar PV system we have ever completed!
During this video we go through how we have installed this in roof Viridian Solar PV system with SolarEdge optimisation and monitoring.
Solar doesn't always have to be installed on a large scale to make a difference. This garage is a perfect little spot for some solar to help remove the base consumption from this house.
As ever thanks so much for watching. Please drop us a like and comment and of course hit the subscribe button!

This panel can put out close to 100 watts kzfaq.infoUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

Great video, all the extra explanation on the build is appreciated. In the video I also noticed that the SolarEdge modbus has to be within a certain range of the Inverter, in this case it uses the RS-485 standard, which in it's self is not bad, but for case where there is either zero cabling or distance is still an issue... it appears this can easily be transported over regular Ethernet infrastructure with converters... since the majority of these installs also require Ethernet links to the internet, it stands to reason this may help solve communications issues where all the kit does not happen to be in the same place.

In 6 months since install made 1700kW. 700kW has come from the battery storage. I am sure I will out perform the quoted generation estimate 2250kW. So far the panels are delivering 60% of house usage. I have a 2000 gallon pond that use 2.5 to 3 kW a day. Very happy with results. Pay back will be about 5 years at 52p electricity fixed rate

Given how unreliable SE optimisers are (I've got about 20 warranty replacements sat here waiting to be fitted), putting the single optimiser somewhere accessible seems like a good idea. Although I can't help feeling you might have been better off just fitting a regular string inverter! 20% of our systems and 90% of our problems are SE. An entirely functional SE system does perform a percent or two better than a non optimised system but most of our systems have faults. Something like 1 optimiser failure per 50kW per year.

Hi, love your content! A comment though about the Viridian system. I’m looking at this myself but I’m staggered at the cost of the flashings. They’re up there with the price of the panels themselves, which considering the materials and technology of each, seems nothing less than a rip off. I’ve made the same comment on Viridian’s own channel, but funnily enough, they haven’t addressed it. Any thoughts?
@OvalRenewables
@OvalRenewables Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for the message. We aren't directly affiliated with any brand so happy to comment on things like this. The viridian system is not the cheapest system on the market. However it is the best looking in roof system in our opinion, this does mean the system is sold at a premium price. A cheaper system would be the GSE option.
@BerkeleyTowers
@BerkeleyTowers Жыл бұрын
@@OvalRenewables Thanks for your reply! I agree that it looks the business but still contend that the price of the flashings compared to the panels themselves is still taking the mick. I suppose, like everything else in this world, it's going to take volume and competition to force them to drive their price down. ATB.

Great installation Sam . I have 10 x 410 solar panels with 3.68 SolarEdge system recently fitted and they never advised me about a Modbus meter. I am about to have my Consumer unit replaced (RCBO's & SPD) by my local Electrician and was wondering if the Modbus could be fitted on the din rails within the Consumer unit? Thank you very much, we find that the Modbus doesn't sit too well in a DB. You are better off mounting it in an adaptable box next to the DB. Would this system be capable of charging an EV or would storage need to be added
@OvalRenewables
@OvalRenewables Жыл бұрын
This system only generates at a low rate so would struggle to fully charge an EV. It is really only there to cover the base load of the home.

Was interested to see a video from a a channel I'd not seen before, but immediately turned off after the drone footage at the beginning, showed an installer chancing it by shoving a length of metal trim, upwards directly on a panel. Shoddy work practice that.

Hi, one question: Without any air circulation underneath the modules, will they not get really hot, reducing the efficiency on hot summer days?

There will be a slight effect with it being in roof however it shouldn't be a major issue.

Laminate or make those One Line Diagrams and procedures into stickers . They are not going to last over time. If the owner sells the house it’s gonna be a pain for the next owner. Build things to be able to used 30 years from now without any intervention.

Ive been trying to get a small system just to reduce costs even something. Instaler told me dont waste your time. Its disapointing for small users they want you to take larger systems.

Thanks for watching, not all of our videos cover the cost as it can be a personal thing for the customer. I appreciate that it may be an important point to you however the cost of a similar size system may be vastly different for someone else as the installation factors may be completely different.

So the system needs an Internet connection, otherwise it's all guess work. Why can't the system have a visual display on site. Without the input of a third party the system could be rendered next to useless.
@OvalRenewables

They removed the screen on the inverter a little while ago now. You don’t absolutely need an internet connection but it does mean the system can be monitored and updated.

@@axgtsimi Up to a 3.6Kw system you can install yourself except for attaching to the grid which requires an electrician. Once complete email a G98 (i think) form to your local electricity board eg. Norweb and you're done.
