The fungus in short is called Cordyceps. It does basically turn ants and similarly sized insects into zombies that do what the fungus wants, finding a place to climb and then remain there where the spores can be strewn far. The Last Of Us is based on a fictional version of this fungus, literally referred to as Cordyceps in the game, so it was a mutation that functioned differently and specialized on humans.
@firstnext5482
@firstnext5482 Жыл бұрын
Media needs to leave Cordyceps alone already. It's being used way too much now. They're piledriving it into the ground, are beating the dead horse past the point of recognition, and are in orbit around Jupiter from how far they jumped the shark. It's lost all "oomph".

@@LeHyperTech cordyceps is literally prescribed as a medicine for humans. That how harmless it is. But in all fairness the goal of all bacteria and for that matter fungus isn't to kill the host but to simply leech off the nutrients the host acquires. Death of the host is nothing more but an unwanted side effect. Fungus will never evolve to harm humans cuz there is no point doing so. Some of the most deadliest bacteria are cross species bacteria that don't harm the species they initially evolved to adapt to. Also fungus and parasites are living things. It's weird but I will say that fungus do no mutate like bacteria. They are very much "stable".
@ainulvr9808
@ainulvr9808 Жыл бұрын
@@zaingamingtv2242 Obviously it wouldn´t work in a sense of directing a new action, but it very much could work in the sense of enhancing aggressive behaviour to the point someone just rampages, and spores transmitted throughout lungs etc. is likely too. At that point it wouldn´t be cordyceps anymore and it´d be more likely to be some whole ´nother fungus transmutation.

I get that it's certainly not going to be for everyone, some would even say it ruins the horror, but I personally think it makes the horror better. 6:22 Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that has a number of uses by our brains and bodies. In the brain, it helps with arousal, motivation, and memory, in the body it helps with the regulation of muscle contraction and body movement alongside dopamine. In Parkinson's patients, who lack dopamine while maintaining average to high levels of acetylcholine, suffer from uncontrolled movements and rigidity of the muscles caused by the imbalance. I think that those suffering from this fungal infection may be suffering something similar to Parkinson's Disease but it mainly affects there facial region as opposed to their other body parts.

So I have a few things to say. In the beggining the radio signal thing, it could have been communication between "This man" and infected, because they saw him in dreams and the signal was at night. Then in 27:27 of your video, there were words at the bottom saying gunfire - evisceration - cannibalism - sporing. And the rest I had in mind you already said. I really love this series, instead of minimalist IRL footage of someone walking through their house with a monster implied to be there, we actually get to see the monsters and hear what they do. It’s what makes it scary, as nothing is left to the imagination.
@aaaaaaaaaaaaaa2301
@aaaaaaaaaaaaaa2301 Жыл бұрын
Idk, i feel like leaving it to the imagination makes it scarier, since whatever gaps your mind fills in about the "monster" or whatever the threat is in a horror scenario is way worse than most things clearly shown to you.

@thelelanatorlol3978 Жыл бұрын
Definitely not. Horrors left to the imagination is much scarier than those that are fully revealed. Even in real life, if someone or something is in your home, you're going to more terrified not knowing who or what it is and more importantly where it is compared to seeing very clearly what the intruder looks like and what weapons they are carrying and where they are moving through the house through a security system.

@@thelelanatorlol3978 Well, creating unknown is creating dread, the feeling that something is wrong, that something is off. Showing the monster, showing it to be a real, tangible threat creates a flight-or-fight response, it makes you want to run. That's why horror games often have chase scenes, it's a way to get you to feel in danger. Dread lasts longer, but that terror feels far more intense. Which one you use depends on the feel you want the story to have.

it happens to any insect or any small animals being the biggest a tarantula since they got a weaker immune system and since the humans mammals fishes and the others have stronger immune system its quite safe to get contact with since the fungai is anywhere between food plants and others any animal who gets in contact will get infected whilst being normal for 2-3 days after that time they stop and start acting differently and after a week or 2 it'll get complete control over all of the body and will start getting somewhere to stay and grow spores and after that it'll spread to other places and restart its things and also the fungus are really good for us since the body kill the fungus and gives nutrients to the body and if the disease or any deadly parasites have the strength to attack the immune system and get control it would take years to recover if its not that strong but if the diseases has enough power to infect anything it may lead into human and life extinction

Also, the fungus you're thinking of is the _cordyceps_ fungus, an ascomycete fungus (meaning it's a 'sac fungus,' because of its preferred method of germination inside the ascus (from ancient Greek _Askos_ ,meaning 'sac' or 'wineskin') that nonmotile spores accumulate, expanding the mushroom until they pop in a spore cloud, and are carried on the wind. Cordyceps differs from most of its brethren however, in that it is actually classified as an endoparasitoid fungus, mostly on insects and other arthropods. And if the name _cordyceps_ sounds familiar, it should: the zombies of _The Last of Us_ are essentially the victims of a mutated strain of _cordyceps_ that now affects people rather than bugs.

Eventually, it seems to go away from this kind of topic, and towards a more usual horror situation.

This makes me think it could also sort of be an allegorical thing for people like that, symbolizing how when you hide all your negative emotions to cope, it always proves unhealthy, because when you bottle it up, it always winds up with you breaking down or lashing out at some point. Obviously this series would still be an incredibly meta hyper-realism take on that in a horror setting, but still.

I believe that the string of numbers and letters at 22:05 is a tap code, frequently used in prisons, it works by one person having a grid memorized or on hand, and another person tapping something, (ex: the bars of the cell) and the first amount of taps is the letter and the second is the number.
