When the Folding Pistol Carbine launched, I thought this was a very cool concept, I saw reviews from all the typical big names. I did notice, that for a brand new, firearm with a completley new design, no one had any negatives to report.... not the case here.
dislcosure, RDRgear is a 02/07 FFL licensee. This FPC like many of the products we review, was purchased by us.
RDRgear.com for all your belt, plate carriers, and safariland needs. We got you covered.

Had mine for over 2 months with a couple thousand shots. Absolute reliability, very accurate, and even more fun than my Ruger Pc9 I've had since 2018. Much lighter weight and quicker into action, it's now replaced my ARs as my home defense gun.

Absolutely love this folding pistol carbine. After only a couple of range visits, the bolt release is as intuitive as an AR. Piece O’ Cake Baby! Just plain fun to shoot! Accurate, points well and lightweight. I wouldn’t trade my ARs, but if you want to introduce folks to the shooting sports, defensive home protection, or a hesitant gun owner, this carbine is very persuasive! This video is more negative than any others I found on this gun. If the mag holder bothers you that much, then pretend it’s not there and don’t use it and stick them on your belt or Fanny lack or chest pack or leave them at home like you would on all other magazine fed guns . This is NOT good for schools because you don’t like the mag holder?…wtf? What PCC does NOT have a safety? ….this is NOT a pistol Accurate American made Foldable PCC Mag storage Reliable ….but hell no for schools and it’s a novelty in your eyes ….I won’t be subscribing

@@rdrgear it’s not that we disagree, it’s your reasoning. A good company make an affordable gun, that can be stored easily and provides more accurate firepower than any pistol and it appears very relatable, and you don’t like it because of how it stores extra mags….makes no sense. It didn’t have to store ANY mags and you don’t have to use it. And ALL PCCs have safeties….am I wrong? It’s a rifle! You didn’t knock because it’s inaccurate, because it jams, because it’s unsafe, or because you can’t shoot it which all those would be critical design flaws….but no, you don’t like how it stores mags It’s affordable, comes with a case, backstraps and mags and it’s American made…..but you want to say it’s a novelty. With the right ammo, It would be perfect for school security. If i had to only speak about the good things about a firearm to keep people happy. I would close this channel tomorrow. The fact is this, you and i both know the backwards release is an issue. It may not be as big of an issue for you as it is for me. Imagine this. What if your every day carry gun. Had a magazine release where you had to pull the mag release button, instead of push? - And you are correct. No one is using these for “combat”. But the manual Of arms for this weapon is still backwards. The FPC is sub par band aid fix to the pistol brace issue, and an non taxable option for those wanting a SBR. With none of the performance of an SBR.

I lost you and you lost credibility when you couldn't figure out the engineering of the mag release because it seems pretty simple to comprehend. If you press down on a side when has it EVER unclogged a hole to release anything? Obviously when you hit the rocker style mag release it acts just like the name suggests, it rocks from side to side pulling a pin out of the mag's locking hole on the other side of the rocker lever. Seems like you should have chosen something else to complain about because that just highlights a severe lack of engineering comprehension..

The mag release for the extra mag storage can also be pulled/pushed down on the side you want by sticking you thumb in between the stock and the button instead of pushed in, so you can pull it down on the left side to release the left side mag then the right for the right side mag or push in on the same left side to get the right side mag out, that way you aren't reaching over with your thumb to the right side like you said to release the left side mag.

Bro your killing me here. lol I bought my FPC and I love it. It shoots so smooth. The recoil is light and highly manageable. There is virtually no muzzle rise like AT ALL. Ive had no issues with ejections, stove piping or carbon in my face. And i shoot a lot. The reason you have a negative opinion about it is because your unaware of why S&W designed it. Its to compete with the Kel-tec sub 2k in PCC in steel challenge, 99% of todays PCC's are used for steel challenge. The FPC intended secondary use is defense. Of course as a rifle in the most widely available and used caliber in the world 9mm. If you look at its main function to compete w/ the Sub 2k then its design makes sense. So I hope your opinion changes.

1. I’m pretty sure I praised the FPC on accuracy and reliability. 2. I mentioned the carbon because I was shooting suppressed, were you? 3. I had zero malfunctions. Not sure what you are referring to there. 4. I have been in the retail side of guns for 25years the kel-tec sub2000 has not been a thought for the last decade. I am very aware of the benefits of the FPC over the Kel-Tec that’s why the FPC had a Red fit and a light. No one is shooting a kel-tec or a folding 9mm pcc in any steal challenge match. I literally laughed out loud when I read that. My review was my review, it’s free content for you to consume. The FPC will sell because it it’s price. And the fad of bag guns. There are things on it just don’t like. If I’m going to run a 9mm at any pcc match I will used one of my dedicated 9mm pcc guns for that. I really hope you don’t believe this is a model by s&w for the pcc competition market.

I'll add my vote to the many who think you are missing the mark. This gun is NOT for armed security details/ police / etc... it is a convenient package the shrinks because it folds ... perfect for backpacking, truck, bug out. If you are worried about the safety ... just don't use it. It's NICE to have that option, I'm glad they included it. But I doubt I'll ever engage it for 99% of my usage! On board storage of extra mags is a HUGE bonus. I see a major part of their target audience as M&P 9 owners who want mag compatibility and the convenience of all things being neatly stored. The only part of your review that revealed anything to me was gassy suppressor host, but you have blown other minor things (IMO) out of proportion so I can't even trust that.. I"m getting one, cheap entry into local 2 gun competitions since I carry an M&P 2.0 9mm ... and where my mags will be stored on my belt. I'll figure out if it's too gassy for hosting my cans I'll have an excuse to seek out a less gassy can ... Hmmmmm CA$H 9k is looking like something I need ....

The mag retention in the stock is my only real issue, and I'm sure there was some reasoning behind it that just doesn't translate into real world use (designer/engineer vs end user). The safety was probably a compliance issue to be able to sell it in restrictive states. The gas blowback when suppressed should be expected based on the design, and it is in my experience just as bad with the SUB2000. Like he said it's an innovative design and hopefully S&W will listen to customer feedback and make improvements.

@@keiththibodeau8607 that’s the great thing about this platform. The content is consumed for free by the viewer and we will not always disagree. My reviews are based on practical end user views. Not the novelty or niche things about a system or product. The FPC shoots amazingly well. It’s super accurate platform. Which I cover in the review, this not a defensive deployable 9mm carbine platform. It lacks in the bag deployment area. It’s low cost mostly plastic construction. Is a benefit and a negative. At the end of the day it is a novelty, on board storage has been done for decades with carbine. It’s a great shooter, great plinker for the cabin or camper gun. As I mentioned that’s what’s great about this platform. I don’t have to just say awesome great things about everything that I purchase for this channel. I don't know why people keep harping on the way the release lever is for the on board magazines. With a little "training", it's not hard to do. Try cupping your hand underneath the magazines instead of the way you are doing it. Reach for the magazine closest to you and then reach with your fingers to the opposite side to depress the lever and then start pulling the magazine out gripping it with the crook of your thumb and trigger finger. I had that figured out in less than 5 minutes. Try thinking outside the box.

How moronic to condemn an absolutely awesome gun because you can't figure out the magazine storage system. Maybe you should just carry the spare mags on your belt like you do when carrying a handgun? Huh, that was tough to figure out. I have yet to hear a single one the genius gun reviewers that cry about this to actually have an idea of their own on a better system. Store it with the 23 round mag in the grip, ready to go, and if that's not enough and you need a tactical reload, it probably wouldn't do you any good anyway. It's not a combat weapon. If you can't get the job done with 23 rounds...........

So two suggestions on the mag issues. Instead of pushing on the opposite side to release, pull on the side for the magazine you want. Or, like you would an AR use mag holsters/pouches. The reason the mag storage is more complicated is that the spring in the center is to used to field strip the rifle. The safety issue and the magazine issue can be overcome with training and frequent use. Be thankful that you didn't get one of the early ones that had a bolt issue with firing pin spring retention pins that fell out. S&W fixed this but it was disappointing to fire one magazine through it before having to send it back in for repair.

Even my GF who is a novice shooter can hit 6" steel targets at 50 yards with a Vortex red dot standing. And she struggles with my AR 15 and M&P 15 22 past 25 yards even on a bench with a tripod I run steel pro-mags 33 round and ACT standard Mags aftermarket at the range and they work great. No Cycle issues. Be careful if you buy the cheaper ETS Clear polymer mags that say "works with Smith and Wesson 9mm" they dont work with the 2.0 M&P system which is what the FPC is. I bought ETS Mags for my glock 43x and 42 thinking i could buy them for the FPC but the version they sell wont seat right.

So, to discount the rifle because of the extra mag release system seems a bit disingenuous to me. First off, what other options even offer ANY onboard extra mags? Maybe the release is not the best design but the fact that the mags are there at all is a plus to me. If you can't use it fast enough for your purpose, you can ignore it and carry your extra mags the normal way you do. Every review I have seen touts the accuracy, reliability, and the trigger of the FPC and those are the first things I care about in any weapon I am considering buying. I see this rifle as an alternative to a shorter PCC that now have additional requirements by the ATF that police forces would not have to deal with so, it was never meant as a police weapon. Home defense and fun 9mm plinker seem it best use.

When dudes were taping mags together. This is new to a PCC and it was not very well thought out. As I stated. - It was not about the speed of the mag release it was the backwards operation of the release also I stated. In regards to the other reviews. Most received the gun for free so take that for what it’s worth. But as same as those other reviews. I have the FPC high praise for accuracy function and trigger. It was a YT review so the reliability is solid, I feel to get a handle on that it would require alot more range time or a 1000 round test. - This is KZfaq. @@rdrgear Well, I am an old fart and the eyes are not what they used to be. Weight is important for me and I like the weight ( the lightness) of the FPC. Acquiring a red dot in a home defense scenario will take me second OR two with possible bleary eyes and the rifle must be raised in firing position as well. Then I have to turn the light on too. With a light/laser, I can have both aids on with one button and shoot the rifle from the hip if I have to as the laser will guide the shot. Seems faster to me. I have a light laser on my shotgun and that set up looks to be good, easy and fast to bring into action. This is a home defense scenario only. I have a red dot on my Glock and it just takes me a little longer to see the dot and get the light on that's also on the Glock. It's a shake to wake Holosun. As for training, I used to go shoot several times a week but since I began having vocal chord and breathing issues, I cannot stand a lot of gunpowder and lead smell at the range. Outdoor is better but it's over 100 degrees here in Texas at daytime now. I am still confident to hit center mass with a G19 at 10 yards anyway.

To balance the release of the onboard magazines, I must say that I found that pushing the opposite lever to release either one seemed odd to me too at first. 17 rounds is as many as you might have in a handgun in a defensive situation. In addition, you have greater stability during the incident. As a field gun, it is not an issue, and if pressed, I'd be willing to fight with that first mag. So maybe the bigger mag is my start, and if I have time to prepare, I move to keep them on my body, just like my handgun before moving forward. My thoughts on the lever tend to agree it would be better as he says, but if I jump out of the truck, I do know I've got 63 rounds, gotta like that. The fact that the lever doubles to allow field stripping, with fewer parts to break, is also a positive. I think its best feature is how compact this thing is, and not needing to remove accessories is a good thing too. I really like how light it is. My only gripe is, S&W really should send everybody a kit to attach a sling, and get to work designing that problem away, and it seems the mag release buttons should be two separate buttons facing with the stock so that the mags spring toward you versus 90 degrees against the stock. They could fix that, and I wouldn't mind buying the upgrade. All in all, I am very happy with this one, and hopefully, it only comes out for fun, or maybe a coyote or snake.

You don’t need to pull anything they just go right onto the hand guards using the MLOK system

I’m on the fence between this gun and the Ruger pc carbine. Any thoughts ? Also wondering what the barrel shroud is made of on the smith and Wesson?

A lot more cool factor and access to accessories with the ruger charger. I would go ruger

Ruger is way too heavy, more expensive and has issues with jamming. Check Iraqveteran8888 and other videos that show consistent issues. If you’re looking for a fun gun to shoot and use for home defense, this is for you. If you want to be tacticool and hang a bunch of useless crap on it go with an AR-15. Stay away from videos that can make a 20 minute video about how a single shot 22 isn’t tacticool enough; it isn’t meant to be. This is a great lightweight gun that can go under the seat of your truck, be carried discreetly in a nondescript bag, etc. Don’t listen to tacticool guys more interested in hanging hardware than having fun. This isn’t the weapon you use to fight a war but you can defend yourself and your home with it. It’s very accurate and the money you save on this one you buy ammo, a light or other accessories.

Have seen several videos onFPC that was purchased and had no serious complaints at all, including the mag storage.

The mag release sounds like a 3d printer fix , something to replace the release with an “tight fit “ rather then a full release button. My brain is already going

That could definitely be a popular upgrade.

I think the S&W M&P FPC fun shooting neat folding rifle. 9MM S&W Magazines work with 15, 17, 23 or custom extended 27 rounds. So if you have 9mm Shield 2.0 it should be good. Haven't tried smaller 13 round Magazines with mine. Yeah base magazine holder seems backwards. I argue it isn't there for fast switching magazines. But counter weight and convenience. I put a Sig Romeo5, Brinyte xp22 LED, Viridian HS1 laser handstop, m-lok qd sling mount on the side, and a Mcarbo Muzzle brake. Small backpack gun to carry where don't want big rifle case. Truck gun, Boat gun, camping, Hiking, more gray man bug out. Still fun to plink with. Thinking your can might making the gas blow back worst. Assuming the some state/federal law requiring any new rifles sold to come with a safety. doesn't bug me, similar to Maverick 88.

Great insight, well written thank you. The can on these is always going To be somewhat of an issue. Especially indoors. The 9mm shield mags probably won’t work and they are a different shape then the M&P mags, even though the shield it part of the M&P line up. Thanks for the engagement. I hope to you around in other reviews. Jeff
