"Ask" was released as a single in October 1986. I love this song.
"ASK" - THE SMITHS
Shyness is nice and
Shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life
You'd like to
Shyness is nice and
Shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life
You'd like to
So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me I wont say no, how could I?
Coyness is nice, and
Coyness can stop you
From saying all the things in
Life you'd like to
So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me I wont say no, how could I?
Spending warm Summer days indoors
Writing frightening verse
To a buck toothed girl in Luxembourg
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Because if it's not Love
Then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb,
the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb
That will bring us together
Nature is a language - can't you read ?
Nature is a language - can't you read ?
So, ask me, ask me, ask me,
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Because if it's not Love
Then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb,
the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb
That will bring us together
If it's not Love
Then it's the bomb
Then it's the bomb
That will bring us together
So, ask me, ask me, ask me,
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Oh, la...

This song is the meaning of my life. Social awkward people can totally relate to this. We are shy, we panic, and we shrink.

The polarity here is off the scales...music that's as buoyant as a free pint and lyrics that paralyze...thus was the marriage of words and music which Marr and Moz brought to the world.

An all time favourite live version. I suppose the irony is that this is the least shy Morrissey and Johnny Marr ever got. They were nearly U2 but thankfully they managed to mess it all up in a tylically obstinate way.

Always thought the guitar in this song was beautiful, masterful. As great as Moz is, it's just wrong that cameramen treat guitarists like Marr as they were some sort of background: Marr's guitar is what makes this song, along with Morrissey's craft

Smiths as a five piece had a fucking great energy live. Sounds a bit thin with just them four, given how intricate and multi-tracked Marr's guitar parts were in the studio.

why does the bomb bring them together?
@drevyd8158
@drevyd8158 Жыл бұрын
This song came out around a time where the world was worried of nuclear war (Cold War era) and Morrissey is stating here that approaching someone you fancy even if you are shy could be the “bomb” that brings you together. He’s basically saying the world could end due to the bomb anyways so just approach whoever you like without thinking too much.
@yukiaditya7352

Pretty much similar like what happens nowadays in Gaza. If it’s nit love, then it’s the bomb that bring us together.
@putjjj
@putjjj Ай бұрын
It basically means that if it isn't love that will bring them together, then it's their shared campaigning against nuclear weapons that will (CND and protests against nuclear weapons were big during this time).

Absolutely! I find the studio version is quite over-produced, and agree that this version is absolutely superior. However, my favourite version is the demo version - the drums are a lot wilder, and it isn't as cheesy, yet the vocals are still a bit cleaner.
