First time riding the 2021 Kawasaki Z900 ABS, an upright naked sport bike with a low seat height. For reference, I am a conservative rider with the bulk of my riding being commuting and mountain rides. I own a 2014 Triumph Street Triple R 675 and I would say my skill level is about average. I'll be featuring more mid level cc bikes on my channel this year because after a poll in my community tab, y'all voted for more of that! Stay tuned for more review videos from a short, everyday rider!

I came off a string of punchy twins (fz07 and sv650) and I was absolutely astounded at how smooth the z900 is. It is pure silk. I also considered and tried the mt09. In my experience, the mt09 was absolute bonkers, a brutal monster I constantly had to wrestle with to keep under control. The z900 was welcoming with its easy going, smooth nature. But when you give it some beans, it can be every bit the monster that the mt09 is. Where the mt09 tries to rip your arms off all the time, the z900 rips you arms off only when you ask it to.

Same here coming from mt 07 for me was a litle bit nervous bike. And z 900 is so smooth, stable in corners and on the straight.

@Simon K so which bike is the most fun and more likely to be kept long term... I ask this in the country I live (philippines) they don't do test rides and this bike is only 1k American dollars more than the mt07..any thoughts or input would be much appreciated...oh I forgot to add the roads I ride are alot of tight corner mountainous roads
@simonk333
@simonk333 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewhoffman6 mt 07 is really fun bike to ride. Easy to handle and in the thight space you can turn like a 125 or 300 cc bike. Its lighter than kawasaki z900 around(220kg) vs mt07 around(185kg) you got a lot of power on both bikes but compare to each other kawasaki is crazy on power. For what you are saying about roads go whit mt 07 first and you will see that thr bike is almost for a city ride and perfect for stunt rider. I dont say you cannot ride it on highway or country roads but compare to kawasaki you can feel diference in power on conutry road. When you go and pass other cars whit mt 07you need to think and have more space on the road to pass them but whit kawasaki you just twist the trothle and you are flying. Kawasaki z900 is good for country roads and canyons its like when you go for corner its stable and wants to stay there( better suspension on kawasaki) but in tight space mt 07 is better. What are you riding now?

Thanks for responding..I was riding a ktm duke 390 until recently the transmission blew apart and took out the whole engine.. I do alot of wheelies but generally don't ride too fast..but yesterday I went and sat on both bikes and wow the kawasaki feels like quality and the yamaha feels like a plastic low quality afterthought..they don't have a 2023 mt07 with tft dash here yet I sat on a 2022..and I also sat on the 2023 kawasaki z900 standard

@@andrewhoffman6 i had mt 07 2021. For me dash from 21 is better looking than new one. That is good that you could try and look in real life and compare bothe bikes. And what did you chose? Or you will chose? If you are coming from ktm 390 i think whatever you chose you cant go wrong. Mt 07 is perfect for wheelies if you want to have fun. I didnt do it myself i was trying few times but it hurts me more cuz am babying those bikes 😁 even when i accidently run over potholes am like crying inside 😁

It's unique to this bike. This 948 was developed from the larger 1043 in the Ninja 1000SX, which ironically isn't as smooth overall. There are a good handful of inline-4 engines that make terrible vibrations and will give you nerve damage.

@@exothermal.sprocket The odd firing of a triple is in theory more unpleasant than the rocking couple of a 4. Only a few engine configs give natural primary and secondary balance. Like flat 2, 4 and 6's. 60 degree V6, inline 6, and a few others.
@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket 3 жыл бұрын
@@MostlyInteresting All V6 engines are a compromise due to being essentially two 3-cylinder engines conjoined. Can understand your enthusiasm for the Kawasaki 900. I kind of liked the KZ of the same size back in the late 70's when a friend let me take it for a shakedown after his carbs got sync'd. I think yours' has better manner's than did Terry's as I hit I-264 on the Sherman-Minton over the Ohio River that sunny day. Glad they still know how to build them, a keep their rider's satisfied as well. Have a great weekend. Be looking for your exclusives on all these new bikes coming out. Stay safe.

A little late to the party here, but I just picked up a 2022 Z900 ABS after 20 years of riding super sport bikes; mainly the Yamaha R6, in a variety of generations. Watched your review, and it made me smile. Many, if not most, naked bikes ARE sport bikes... so don't keep correcting yourself on that one. They're usually just a more upright, detuned version of a super and/or sport bike, sans the fairing and clip-ons. Though, sometimes they are created specifically for this genre; not sharing many, if any, parts with other bikes in a manufacturers line-up. The focus, as you made note of, with many naked sport bikes is to create a more versatile, but great handling motorcycle. One that's fun in the canyons and at track days, but can handle daily commuting, longer highway rides, and be a better general purpose motorcycle. I've seen plenty of these Z900's turned into race bikes, ran at track days, and can usually run circles around the purebred super sports. While some of that's the riders skill set, it remains rather impressive. Also, the "bouncy" is likely due to your lighter self. The rebound damping likely needs to be increased a little to prevent the suspension from shooting back up too quickly. =) Can't wait for winter to end so I can thoroughly enjoy my new Z900. So, let the haters hate... these bikes ARE sporty, and need not be called "naked" at all times. Fun review, Doodle!

Hi Doodle. Really like your videos. I wanted to ask you about this bike. It's caught my attention. I don't want the grief of getting something smaller and then upgrading over time. I need a first and last bike. Problem is, I haven't been on a bike in years. I rode mopeds a long time ago, not long had my endorsement and am narrowing down my choices. I want something that I can start with, practice, get used to, then use however I want. I know it has riding modes and traction control so I'm hoping it's tame enough to start on. What's your opinion/advice?

No substitute for cubes. I’ve always preferred the comfort and ease of a larger capacity bike. It doesn’t always have to be pinnned to the redline, but when you do 😁😁😁

It does have a comfortable seating position. Feels like you sit in rather than on the bike. The seat itself, not so comfortable considering a seat upgrade on the near future.

I was so torn between Kawasaki Z900 and Suzuki GSX S750 for a while and I ended up buying S750. For those who do NOT require all the electronic gadgets, you will really Z900 although I am quite happy with my current S750 🥰

I went through the same. I went with 2020 z900. I would have been happier with either. To be honest I fell victim to the gadgets haha. My general rule is buy the one with best resale value when I’m torn between 2.... I like to hold on to a bike for about 1 to 2 years and then try something new.

Is your Triumph suspension set up correctly for someone your size? Whenever I watch you test riding these sporty bikes, I can't help but wonder how much more you would enjoy riding something set up with the correct springs. Most bikes come off the showroom floor with springs for a 190 pound dude. Getting a bike set up by a pro for your weight might make for an interesting before/after video!
@c0dy1287
@c0dy1287 3 жыл бұрын
Well you're not wrong about being correctly set up for your own weight, but 190 pounds? If that was true it'd be perfect for me! Unfortunately it's been my experience most Japanese bikes I've owned were more like 150-170lbs, but like I said all from the big four so maybe that's why?

@@c0dy1287 I'm 165 with gear and when I jump on a Yamaha MT10 with no preload in the fork, it only compresses 20mm. 26mm or so would be ideal. Doodle would probably only compress the fork 15mm. A rider her weight needs lighter springs on any bike... period

@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Hi Doodle, your STriple has 110mm front and 124mm rear suspension. With the correct springs, the suspenion should compress 30% with you and full gear. That means around 33mm for the fork, and 37mm in the rear. Have a friend measure it with a tape measure. Lots of videos on KZfaq about "checking motorcycle sag" for instructions. I bet your bike is way to stiff and would be better for you with lighter springs

@@luisdetomaso2224 Well you're certainly more knowledgeable than I am, like I said it's probably my limited experience and I've never got anything for myself bigger than a 750 (90s 750). I should probably take measurements as I'm so terrible I go completely by guess and feel "that feels terrible in the corner! But this setting feels great, okay leaving it there", my lazy process haha.

Have you driven the Kawasaki Z900RS? It is a great bike, very comfortable for short and long trips with lots of power. I have driven mine from Texas to Georgia. I have driven it from Georgia to northern Wisconsin and I'm getting ready next month to head up to the Tail of the Dragon and all those beautiful roads up there for a few day from south east Georgia.

Just seeing this. I ended up getting the z650 because when I sat on the z900 the foot pegs dug into my legs. I know it's something I could get used to, but there was also this feeling of being "at home" when I sat on the 650! I'm surprised the foot peg issue didn't bug you, though!

Had mine for a couple months now same exact color too the black and red and I love it sport bike feel with a more comfortable seating and bar position. First thing to do on that bike though is get rid of those terrible mirrors and get some bar ends. The stock mirrors just show elbows and shoulders and look terrible

Good point. I am 75 and looking for a fun bike. Must keep in mind comfort. I did have a brief test ride on a Tiger 800 XCX a few years ago. I recall it had a very smooth throttle. Way more comfy than the Harley Sporsters I was demoing at this dealer. You had any problems yet?

@@dry509 just got it and the only problem was with the corporation dealership. I think these are pretty reliable. I went for the 900 over the new 850 because of cruise control. Couple hundred miles and I have used it a lot.
