"The Song of Achilles", by Madeline Miller,
read here by Jenny J. Juniper
Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia. Here he is nobody, just another unwanted boy living in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles.
Achilles, “best of all the Greeks,” is everything Patroclus is not-strong, beautiful, the child of a goddess-and by all rights their paths should never cross. Yet one day, Achilles takes the shamed prince under his wing and soon their tentative connection gives way to a steadfast friendship. As they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine, their bond blossoms into something far deeper-despite the displeasure of Achilles’ mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.
Fate is never far from the heels of Achilles. When word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, the men of Greece are called upon to lay siege to Troy in her name. Seduced by the promise of a glorious destiny, Achilles joins their cause. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus follows Achilles into war, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they have learned, everything they hold dear. And that, before he is ready, he will be forced to surrender his friend to the hands of Fate.
Profoundly moving and breathtakingly original, this rendering of the epic Trojan War is a dazzling feat of the imagination, a devastating love story, and an almighty battle between gods and kings, peace and glory, immortal fame and the human heart.

I'm trying to keep my crying really quiet here, but this is seriously one of the saddest things I've ever listened to. I was genuinely shocked when Patroclus died, started panicking when Phyrrus denied him being buried with Achilles and cried when Thetis at long last set him free, so they could finally be together. The goddess, so cold towards matters of men, showed the most humanity in the end. What a brilliant work, I will treasure it forever.

Three days. My mind was tethered to this narration for three days. My throat clenched at the weight of THEIR story, and your delivery, pace, and voice dragged me through their years on Trojan soils till the final "the end". It was then when my voice scraped my throat as the flustering pressure of grief, relief, and joy escaped me. Seriously... you are amazing!

I’m on the last chapter, I loved this book and I’m sad that I will never again read it for the very first time I hope one day I forget all about it and that I’ll be able to read it again for the very first second time, even though it made me so sad it was so beautiful I thought a lot about my own mortality and how even though I could live a thousand different lives through books and stories once the books are finished it’s back to my room and I am me again, this sounds so dramatic but I loved this story and the way it felt to be Patroclus. I’m gonna go finish it now ...

Your audiobook really helped me get back into the book so that I could finish it on my own, so thank you very much. You did a wonderful job and we're all very grateful for the effort you put into making this for us.

Just finished your audio reading within the past week or two (at least an hour every night be that’s the only time I can make for it) and your voice was wonderful to listen to. I am crying for the ending where the two finally are joined together at last. Having already read this novel years ago and this being my favorite book, I thought an audiobook would be a good idea. Although yours is not an official audiobook, your interpretations of the characters brought them to life more than I could have imagined. The pacing is just right, the emotions you brought through each character, and the way you read it as poetic as Madeline Miller had written it, matched beautifully. I think you should be proud of how well you did.

I just finished the audio (but not the sobbing ofc). I wanted to thank you for ur effort in making this. I loved the fragile and gentle voice of Patroclus and the childlike tone of Achilles that always caught me off guard, and all the interpretations of the character's voices. Also thank u for making me feel less alone in this journey, stranger :')
