The reason Ian appears in sonic media is because sega hired the person who made Ian jr to help make ads for sonic forces, so his oc started appearing in official sonic media

Oh, so the _why_ it happened could be boiled down to a fan turned employee saw his chance to self insert his OC and gloriously took it. Actual respect for them as I’d imagine not many in their position would do something like this that could potentially get them fired, but it it ended up being a win.

I mean, Ian Jr is sick and all, but Whisper (one of my personal favorite designs) was actually made as a Rookie design. Since then, she’s been in the Comics as a major role, in Dash: Forces, and (perhaps most relevantly) her -girlfriend- best friend Tangle was namedropped in Frontiers! And speaking of Ian Jr, his inclusion in Murder ties back to his IDW appearance, which not only canonizes Whisper as being in Murder, but that then means she exists in Frontiers! God I want a playable Whisper.
