Paulie is actually one of the most dynamic characters in the show. He hides his true feelings so well, you could see after Pussy died he slowly changed as well and became (lack of a better term) vile. Paulie being someone who doesn't believe in feelings, he shows that same apathy to others but he still cares. He took Christopher's death the hardest, he was the only one who seemed haunted by the people he hurt. And the more isolated he became the more angry he got which lead him to do things I don't think Season 1 pre Pussy death he would have done. There's a "talking sopranos" podcast with Steve Schirippa and Michael Imperioli (Bobby and Chris respectively) where Imperioli talks about a huge theme being people not feeling appreciated. Christopher wanted to be respected as this big shot. Tony wanted appreciation from his kids, his wife, his subordinates. But the interesting thing about Paulie, is while never mentioned. All he wanted was someone to pat him on the back. And being accosted by people he admires and respects leads him with no direction even at such a late age which leads him to be lost and have no sense of purpose. But the only life he knows is "This thing of Ours" and that leads to his degenerative (lack of a better term) behavior.

Lmao. No. Paulie was a complete psychopath. Ask the cop who did a header off the bridge. I think his name was Vin.
@doctormarbles244 жыл бұрын
@@b.g.3073 Ah Jeez alright let me go ask him. "I didn't like Paulie, I thought he was a complete psycho" Yeah you're totally right. Everything about character growth goes moot when a character from season 1 describes a character we learn about in 6 seasons and 8 years. That same character liked Tony Soprano. Does that make him not a "psychopath" then. Which by the way is very obtuse word to describe these characters. They're all dynamic they all have weaknesses and strengths. Calling them psychopaths allows people to not see them for what they are. Human beings, and given the environment we all have these natures in us. If you know about psychopaths then you should know about what Nature does to human beings as well.

@@michele2855 It's called the "Maloik" it's like the evil eye. Though that hand gesture is said to both give the evil eye and ward it off. Sometimes it's used to simply ward off bad luck. In Mediterranean culture it's like knocking on wood according to wikipedia.

Paulie seeing the Virgin Mary is probably the most disturbing moment in the whole show, especially with that guitar riff and her reflection in the background before the camera shifts to her. Gives me the fucking creeps.

WouldNotPokeThat Dude you have no idea. The first time I saw that was the live show season 6 first part, and yeah the guitar is so loud because the Bing is dead silent, and I remember seeing something in the mirror and all of sudden the virgin mary and a heavy metal riff gave me the creeps for the rest of the night. I think I slept w the hall light on I was being such a pussy. Just such a weird way to scare or freak people out.. Best show of all time.

ChemicallyImbalanced to me, being an ex stand up guy, what made it funny is they had paulie repeating the joke he just told as if everyone at the table couldnt hear iit. To me, i think it woulda been even more hilarious if he did it just a weeeeeee bit more. Almost to where everyone looked at each other as if he was going senile. What a gem he was!
