It was revenge for the slap, and a lot of other things. And there was nothing that we could do about it. Janice was a made man, and so was Richie was. And we had to sit still and take it. It was among the Italians. It was real greaseball shit. They even cut Richie up at Satriale's, so he couldn't even have a funeral.

Whats interesting about the Bacala spinoff is Better Call Saul was meant to be a sitcom spinoff too and it turned into one of the best shows ever. This is something Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould absolutely went against when creating Better Call Saul. I’m not sure how much is true, but I’ve heard BCS was meant to be a sitcom style show following Saul and his other clients during his time with Walter. Instead, Vince and Peter scrapped that, knowing there was so much more to be done with Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman as a multilayered character, opting for a slow building crime drama. As a result, Better Call Saul has become a top tier show that not only holds its own against Breaking Bad and surpasses it in my opinion, but also stands among The Sopranos when it comes to writing and especially episodic direction. The Many Saints of Newark could’ve been the prequel series to The Sopranos as BCS was to BB, but unfortunately, we got a decent film with some interesting ties to the series, but leaves so much on the table.

I think a huge part of Sopranos enduring popularity is that we never really get answers about the characters. They come and go leaving us wondering who they are and why they are that way. We pick small details in their behavior and interactions and speculate about their nature. We feel like there's a rich story to them, but never get to see it. That's why there are so many people, including Pure Kino trying to analyze what it all means. Once there are spin-offs, prequels, etc. the magic disappears because we get to see too much and characters become less interesting.
@BookshelfQBattler
@BookshelfQBattler 8 ай бұрын
Not really. I've never forgiven them for not giving it a few extra seasons to flesh out what happens to everyone. HBO did the same thing with Game of Thrones. They'll probably do it again with whatever their best show is this decade. Hook the audience and then eventually they sad eh we made enough money and spent enough money no reason to go any further so pull the plug and rush the ending.

Exactly. Going to the well on a character too many times can diminish him or her. I do think that a Bacalas spinoff could have been a classic because the series would have been a different genre.

I love that spinoff concept. I miss your Sopranosvlogs. Would you consider doing again an episode by episode analysis but 2.0 Sopranos vlog? By further exploring themes, character arcs, or hidden details that might not have been covered in your initial analysis. AND by incorporating insights, opinions, and behind-the-scenes stories shared on the Talking Sopranos podcast for each episode analysis videos. This could provide viewers with a more comprehensive understanding of each episode's creation, as well as the actors' experiences and reflections. This 2.0 Sopranos vlog could bring new depth and excitement to your subs while continuing to honor the legacy of The Sopranos.

Hey Kino, always good to see you here on YT. Chase likely considered this in passing. He likely considered a lot of things. Steve couldn't pull off comedy, he's not a funny guy. (He's a very nice guy on a set, remember I told you he tried to get me on camera in the biker fight scene in "To Kill the Irishman,"" & he didn't have to do that. Then again, he was also trying to get more screen time for himself.) I suppose he could be the straight guy & Janice the laugh, but the only thing he has in common with Jackie Gleason is his waistline.

Or how about a goodfeathers spinoff for animaniacs. Characters would be inspired from Sopranos that would serve as adversaries for Bobby, Squit, and Pesto. Silvio Dante can be substituted for a large bird of prey who gives Pesto the same treatment he gives to Squit. It would probably be a family cartoon instead of a kids cartoon that pushes boundaries further than its forefather. Animaniacs would have to not been cancelled, while The spin-off could begin somewhere in the early 2000's.

I was so excited for the many saints of Newark and then I saw it and was so disappointed. It could’ve been done SO much better and it sucks that we probably won’t get any more sopranos content ever again.

I loved Janice, yes she is toxic but very entertaining. And, she didn't take shit from anyone.

Great idea! Just make the show as a sitcom! Can be coma dream or something for canon. Doesn’t have to make sense

Would make twice as much sense as many saints. Would kinda be hard to pull off without JG

Should have had a spinoff of Junior and Bacala.

They should still do a prequel or act if he didn’t die, might as well for a comedy

The Many Saints of Newark should've been a miniseries instead of a movie. Can't blame the fans for not turning a mediocre, meandering movie into a hit.

And they definitely should’ve made a mini series instead of many saints. We got screwed. Worst part is, Chase simply doesn’t care.

I wonder if Bobby was gonna be in the mob, in this hypothetical sitcom. I could picture some sort of Green Acres shtick where Bobby is in witness protection in some small town. That could turn out really really dumb but maybe in David Chase’s hands it would be all right.

Oh man if they had done it as a full-blown 80s, living room set on a sound stage, studio audience, dumb sitcom jokes format but keep all the darker edges, scheming, violence/murders, drugs and mob politics it could have been surreal and incredible. Paulie as the wacky neighbor always up to some hustle and causing trouble...
