Thing is Tony specifically told him countless times you can’t play and David just overruled him he was a lost cause that was why Tony didn’t care by the end about him as he realised that. Tony would have screwed most people way before he did to David but tried to help him becuase he was an old friend!

A big dumb jock I went to high school with had something like this happen. Got in too deep with some gambling debts with connected guys while he was playing college baseball, and his family had to choose between putting up something like $15k or having his arms broken. True story. If you want a little thrill, play $25 buy-in poker with your friends and leave it there. The only other options are going broke at the casino or getting broken by guys who crack skulls for a living. And you never, EVER know who's underwriting the bookies. God help you if you owe money to a bookie who's backed up by the Mexicans or Russians.

Clips like this remind me how much I love this show. I sympathize with David's position as a victim of Tony's pillaging but it also shows that even in the end he's his own worst enemy by still wanting to go to Vegas - You know you're a real degenerate gambler when even Tony Soprano washes his hands of you.

I understand the temptation. You see other guys (and in your mind you're just as good as they are) playing high stakes, and you think, "Why shouldn't that be me?" I play $.25 video poker. It'd be fun to play the $1, or even $5 machines, but I know I don't have anywhere near the bankroll to withstand the downswings at those stakes. But I see how the high-stakes players get treated. Nice offers and comps from the casinos, perks in the high-limits rooms, etc. But if I get tempted to play at those stakes, I have to tell myself, "You know how fast $100 can disappear playing quarters? Now multiply that by 4. Or 20." Same with live poker. Gotta play within your bankroll.
