Henry Benjamin *holds chest* because the man finally realized that his children just want love and attention and affection and he realized that through their singing to a potential stepmother who most likely isn’t their first choice all due to Maria teaching them to sing and bring joy and music back into the house and this is also where he starts to fall for Maria subconsciously and the culmination of all that combined makes this 20-year-old old sentimental soul a bit teary. ugh I love this movie

In real life , Maria did go back to the convent after the captain proposed to her (he was really a whole lot older than her , I think he was 20-25 years older than Maria) and Maria really wanted to become a nun. The mother superior told her to go back because the children needed a mother , that this was God’s plans for her. Maria followed the Mother Superior’s advise. I bought an extensive book about the Von Trapp family . Sadly, Maria became trapped in their fame and money. She even insisted on having a singing or speaking part in the Sound of Music movie . The director had them walking up the steps ( in the background) when Julie Andrews and the kids were singing in town. She disapproved of the girls getting married, because this will lead to the Von Trapp musical group disbanding. One of the girls had to elope to be able to get married. The captain being a whole lot older died ahead of Maria.

Brings tears to my eyes, the renewal of a man's hardened heart towards the love for his children. I learned this song as a child before even knowing what all the words meant. Sitting here now i realize how relevant it was, when my Mother died and us 4 children were raised by an Army Sargeant we had to address as 'Sir". Thanks for uploading. 💖

This story has always been relatable and melancholic to me. Though I didn’t grow up with siblings, I grew up with a very hardened father. Though he was there, he was always absent throughout my life. This story had a happy ending where the father softened his heart and came to love his children. Unfortunately for me this hasn’t happened. But this timeless piece always brings me peace. Even if this never happens in my life, it shows that there is hope for many in this situation.
@patb-d22646 ай бұрын
It's quite sad,this kind of situation for both the adult and child involved-more so for the child yearning for that love and cuddle. I think sometimes it's the adult trying hard to also stay above the floods of hurt and loss...but it's great if they could get the help this Captain gets from Maria to rise above that pain and loss. Unfortunately,a lot of adults in this situation don't get that help. As we get into adulthood,we see a few of the things that adult saw and felt. May that soften our hearts towards them.We heal when we can see their hurt and loss and try and empathise with them too. (I hope this piece of sharing helps.)
