Rhodes that pan are amazing on this board

These has been replaced by the Yamaha Montage in year 2016.

I used the FireWire card that you can purchase for the board and recorded it straight through my DAW. It's crystal clear!

A lot of the pianos on here do sound darker. Sometimes I'll create my own EQ and save them and invent my own beautiful sounding pianos.

+michael jagger You can't beat the sound of a real S6 or a Rhodes MK-IV but now were talking $87,000 for the grand + $4000 for a microphone to capture it correctly + $10,000 for the gear, computer, apps, plugins, off board hardware, etx----- vs $3500 for the Motif. It is accurate, no not 100%. Is it better than using stock VST Plugins, yes BY FAR.

Bryce Jb Thomas thats the the thing about modern keyboards they are nothing more than a sampler. i couldnt care about costs because there is nothing like the real thing and some instruments are vintage as mentioned a rhodes piano. close but no cigar when it comes to these new keyboards

+Sergey Carpenter I'm not having that problem and I'll tell you why. I immediately noticed the difference in coloration when selection some of the patches in the voice mode vs seq mode. Keep in mind, the VOICE mode is made to make the voices sound good. The SEQ/SONG/ etc are the raw sounds. I'd recommend getting the FireWire Card and recording into a DAW from VOICE mode to get the unaltered sound as you hear it.

You need to turn on PARAMETER WITH VOICE before selecting a voice in Song/Pattern mode. Check this yamahasynth.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=319%3Aparameter-with-voice-motif-xf&Itemid=102

Actually I think you'll find that 128 is more the standard. I think that's starting to change, but when there are only 88 keys that's more than enough, even though it does suck sometimes with layering. The MP7 is more of a performance keyboard than the motif, too. Even though this doesn't stop most people from gigging with this 65lbs behemoth, I find that the motif is better designed to be the centerpiece of a home studio because it's workstation capabilities are so robust. Also, keep in mind that the Motif is pretty overdue for an upgrade. The XF has been around since 2011 and its age is really starting to show among more current offerings from Roland and Korg.

+Marcus Wiles Exactly! As much as I love the motif and I'll always love it, the truth is this: Sounds are evolving, especially software. Nothing is special about 3-velocity groups any more or having 1GB of external flash ram. My thumb drive has more space. Yamaha needs to drop a board with 3000 AMAZING patches, 500GB of onboard storage, a built in touch screen. The next motif cannot be simply a $3500 Casio lol

+Bryce Jb Thomas IMO the whole idea of a keyboard workstation is pretty outdated. People who actually use sequencers and samplers actually have other gear and software specifically designed for that sort of thing. Most use Motif or Kronos as performance keyboards, making all of the workstation studio in a box features completely redundant and pointless. That's why I ended up moving over to Nord, who make the world's best live performance keyboards. With these uber workstations like Motif or Kronos you get 1000s of sounds but inevitably you end up using the same handful of sounds for years and years, because no one needs patches like "Underwater Piano" or Dog Barks or telephone rings or car engine noises. That's why I think Yamaha should focus on quality over quantity. And for God's sake make it smaller lol.

+Marcus Wiles 100% RIght! the second I got my board, I got the FW card and never used the sequencer. It's pointless. then they tried to create an app that can control the board but who's going to set a tablet on the board and adjust their sounds mid performance. I see what they're trying to do, satisfy the old school user and the new but like you said they're losing on a quality aspect trying to do so many things.
