Just a heads up a bit in advance: you've probably already seen that episodes 3 and 4 are a two-parter, but importantly, episodes 7 and 8 are as well, and they tell a single story. It might be a good idea not to break them up. For what Korra did, the portal connects the physical world to the spirit world--only the avatar can open it because they are the bridge between the two worlds, which is why it only opened once she went into the avatar state. One other important thing to point out--while the Southern and Northern Water tribes are separated by a great distance, they are a single tribe, just like they were in ATLA. Technically speaking, Unalaq is their chief too.

Yay, more Korra!!

I always thought the twins were just very goth, seemed clear to me, but then one of my daughters went through a goth phase in her teens and I have a friend [kind of like a niece, her mother had been close friends with my wife and I] who has been very goth for years, so I have had a fair bit of exposure, not simply to goth, but to a variety of goth [it isn't just a single thing] and so I instantly saw them as goth.

I'm high-functioning autistic. Autism isn't exactly the same for everyone who has it, but one of my symptoms is that my emotional expression is subdued and somewhat different from that of a neurotypical person. I've been called a robot more than once, but I have all the same emotions as everyone, I just express them differently.
