RIP Terry Hall. Your music continues to make the world a better place.

How can the audience not be dancing? I'm watching it on KZfaq in my living room 40 years later and I'm bouncing around the room.

The Specials were lightning in a bottle. Jerry Dammers had a vision and assembled a perfect blend of musicians to realize it. Stupid Marriage has Terry Hall’s punk delivery and the frenzied band swirling around him cresting into a tremendous wave by the time it crashes with Gangsters. What a band. Rest easy, Terry. You’ve earned it.

Well, I was there and clearly remember those ginormous tv cameras + crew constantly moving around being a real nuisance to the front rows. Now Jerry and the guys were well aware of this too and after the filming was done and with the cameras gone, they promptly played the set all over again - 'and this time for real'. I can tell you that was a completely different experience for the band as well as for the audience and a great time was had by all.

Sorely missed already what a band what a time to be alive. I'm 54 now and still feel like a teenager whenever the ska starts. God bless you Terry Hall..

That was a fantastic set, shame the audience didn't think so. A true gem.

I love the whole Two Tone Rude boys and girls Era! The Ska Revival of the early Eighties. The music was brilliant, hard driving, danceable, smart and fun. The Two Tone label was legendary and I like how it brought together black and white with music. Ska had the energy of Punk and it’s own fashion sense. Pork pie hats and suits with white socks. Rude boys and girls skanking all night. Great times!

Watching this 40 years later just highlights how original and groundbreaking The Specials really were, totally groundbreaking stuff. I bought their debut album the week it was released, an album I still listen to to this day and it still sounds as good 40 years later as it did in 1979.

Great footage, they made the world dance. Mr. Hall may your legacy shine.

With an audience like that it’s amazing that The Specials carried on.

I saw Terry and the Specials in Brighton in 2019 and again in September 2021 and both times you were epic. I am 58 this year and grew up with the Specials and I absolutely loved Terry Hall so I am heartbroken that he is gone so soon, much much too young. I will always love your music RIP Terry. Terry had a gentle face and voice to match with strong messages that touches many hearts to this day. Love to his family.

I remember seeing them, Selector and Madness, KGH Blackburn, October/November 1979, one of the best concerts ever.

I never get over the sheer power and impact of The Specials. This captures the band at the top of their game ready to clean up. Glad the audience woke up at the end, perhaps they were mesmerised by their sheer brilliance.

The soundmix is incredible for a live recording from that era, you can hear all the little details of guitar, keyboards and base, even looking at it on a smartphone. Except on “Gangsters”, something most’ve gone wrong there

now 60 years old i was in my teens when i heard the specials for the first time been in to motorbikes and rock music i was confused how could i like ska aswell im i a mod or a rocker people used to ask still in to bikes rock and ska you can be both now i guess thanks tezzer

Just too add, there is parody, great musicianship, totally unique vocals from Terry Hall. Also the cross culture message for the kids, never heard anything like it in 1979.

I always think the period of music from 1977-81 was the greatest for UK music, just so many new sounds and styles... also ties in with being 9 years old and up... maybe that has something to do with it... have not felt the same about chart music ever since..

I got some braces from somewhere at the two tone tour in 1979 at potternewton park leeds. I remember other kids joking about them and me still thinking they were the coolest things ever. Good times. X
